Get #2 in the series, VICTIM, for just 99c this week only! The first novel in the addictive USA Today million-selling forensic police procedural series. Forensic investigator Reilly Steel, Quantico-trained and California-born and bred, imagined Dublin to be a far cry from bustling San Francisco, a sleepy backwater where she can lay past ghosts to rest and start anew. But a serial killer soon puts … anew.
But a serial killer soon puts paid to that idea.
A young man and woman are found dead in a hotel room, the evidence initially suggesting a suicide pact.
But as Reilly and the investigative team dig deeper and more bodies are discovered, they soon realize that each crime has an intriguingly unique element in common.
And that a cunning mind is at work, one who seeks to upset society’s norms in the most twisted way…

A Fast-paced read with plenty of suspense. I was engaged throughout and mostly enjoyed the read with a few niggles. I don’t want to give spoilers so I will just say Reilly should have been aware and worked out who the murderer was sooner. Her mentor did and even without the background information, I was thinking along those lines. I did think the family trauma was a little OTT but I liked the way it was revealed.
A good read I would recommend to anyone who enjoys crime fiction, especially procedurals.
Excellent thriller… Wonderful characters, very suspenseful!
Good, fast paced not great
4+
Easy to figure out who the culprit is rather early on. Not particularly well written but a quick, easy read for an afternoon.
Enjoyed reading this book.
Lost sleep couldn’t put it down
This is the first book I’ve read by Casey. This is a great book!
Have enjoyed all the Riley Steel books.
It was a real page turner!
Love this series.
Loved it! I have read the series now! Can’t get enough!
A female CSI relocates to Ireland to be near her alcoholic father who has gone there to reconnect with his youth. She is hired by the local police force to bring new ideas and techniques to the CSI division. A series of gruesome murders occur with intricately staged crime scenes and she is in charge of collecting the evidence. The problem is she doesn’t make much progress in connecting the murders or in identifying the perpetrator. She is suppose to be a gifted CSI professional, but she makes no headway except for discerning evidence that the perpetrator has intentionally left for her to discover. In fact, the murderer pretty much stays in control of just about everything until the end of the book. This story seemed very contrived and just wasn’t believable. Critical family history of the main character is withheld from the reader until well into the second half of the book. Likewise, the main character’s professional mentor and friend inexplicably withholds critical information and insights from her (as well as the reader) until almost the end of the book. This information was central to solving the case. Rather than interesting twists and turns in the story, the reader is left out of the information loop just to create the illusion of a surprise. I didn’t find this writing technique very clever or creative.
pure trash
Based on the forward from the author was expecting the tight prose of another Kay Scarpetta…while the book was good, the comparison was not apt. The characters were well developed and likable.
I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I will read more from this author.
I am reading it now.
Held my attention til the very end
The main character is one of the reasons I enjoyed the book. She seemed so likable even with her flaws.
The story was good enough to keep me reading and the plot was not bad. However, it is not a page turner and the ending is somewhat of a let down. Entertaining but not great.
