This is a delightful mystery for children ages 8 through 12. We see through the cats and other animals how we can work together, walk through fears to enjoy people who are different than ourselves, and how to assess a situation to find resolution. As the family travels to a unique location, there are rich descriptions of the surroundings that can fascinate a young reader. This would also be a great story to read with a child or grandchild; young and old can be captivated by a Snoopy Cat and her friends. It is 7th in the Inca Cat Detective Series; one does not need to read the earlier books to enjoy this one.
Inca, a Siberian cat who sees herself as the Queen of Kitties and a super-duper cat detective, and her family go on vacation to Sri Lanka. Along with her are her brother, sister, and a beloved, intelligent hamster. There is a rich, 2,000-year-old culture there with temples and centuries-old drawings in caves. The story is well-detailed in Inca’s diary of the trip, except what qualifies Sri Lanka as having one of 8 Unesco World Heritage sites.
Inca and the other cats’ mom has planned to go to the Colombo Museum, but a valuable antique sword and many gold coins have been stolen. While Inca would love to stay and help solve the mystery, Mom takes them back to the beach house. Solo, their neighbor from back home and a renowned international detective is invited to the museum to help find the stolen treasures. With him will come Inca’s friends, a beautiful Russian Blue cat and a brave and brainy detective doggy.
The adventures of the cats, dog, and hamster, and the new friends they make at the beach house, work together to solve a mystery that involves scary, cruel bad guys and a local village bully. Reading Inca’s daily diary entries are compelling tales that would delight readers young and old.
Each of the animals makes important contributions to their mutual friendship and solving the mystery as a whole. One can definitely learn much from these friends who work for the common good. I highly recommend this for children who like cats, dogs, mysteries, and what-if…what if I ran into an elephant, a leopard, or a python. It is sure to delight.
From a grateful heart: I received this book from a Goodreads First contest, and this is my honest review.
Inca, the Snoopy Cat, and her family travel to Sri Lanka for vacation. These furry companions meet elephants, big cat cousins, a turtle named Ronnie and a very scary python out to make a midnight snack of Inca! I loved the descriptions of the exotic locale of Sri Lanka and the delight that was shown by the kittens throughout the book.
This is wonderfully fun story for kids (and adults, too!), full of adventure, mystery, detective work and loads of fun creatures. I am definitely not a kid (unless I’m in my second childhood at 61), but I love listening to this one. I would definitely recommend this book (and the series) to anyone looking for a entertaining audiobook for youngsters and their families.
The narrator does a great job and that voice? I couldn’t decide if it was a young girl or just a woman able to make herself sound that way. Either way, her performance really added a lot to my enjoyment. My only complaint is that the pauses between chapters was very brief, making it hard for the listener to stop the book at an appropriate place.
I was given the opportunity to listen to this book by the narrator/publisher/author and chose to review it
I loved this book. I love books that use animal personification and animal detectives are the best. I hope to read more books by this author.
This is an enjoyable quick read. I loved the adorable illustrations. The mystery and the detectives were entertaining. I would definitely recommend this to parents to read to a smaller child, to children ages 8 to 12, or even an adult who enjoys a cute clean mystery.
A unique beach adventure
