Oh My Gosh! This story gutted me! There is no other way to put it. I don’t ever intentionally set out to read love triangles, but I didn’t shy away from this one either. Why? Two words. Ella Fields. She could write the ingredients listed on a shampoo bottle upside, and backwards and I would devour every.single.word! Y’all this book was aah-ma-zing! From very early I was so captivated with Stevie’s character. I could feel her struggle, I could most definitely sympathize and understand all her hang ups. My heart was devastated right along with hers. None of her decisions were ever easy.
Everett was the troubled bad boy that moved in across the street. He became best friends with her brother, Hendrix. For the first couple of years she was pretty good friends with him as well, until feelings began to change. Everett was born with musical talent and was going places, he needed those opportunities to get out of his messed up home life. Hendrix was his BFF and Stevie was the girl who secretly had his heart. Their mom and Dad had loved him like he was a member of the family that just didn’t live in their house. What would happen if everyone found what was secretly going on behind their backs between Everett and Stevie? What will happen when Everett can’t handle the pressure of being faced with temptation? How will he react when someone else is ready to step in and take care of Stevie when he can’t?
Now Aiden was this sweet jock. He was the complete opposite of Everett. He was there whenever Everett was not. He was the friend who became so much more. He was sweet but with an alpha side to him as well. So flipping hot! If I had to pick on him for something, He did have a habit of running when things did not go his way. So that did bother me a bit. I still loved him dearly though and could sympathize as to why he would do that, considering what was going on.
If you can look past the love triangle part of this story, which I totally did… This is an amazingly beautiful five star tale of two people destined to be together. They have to endure ups and downs and travel quite the road to get there. I do believe she got it right in the end. I definitely shed some tears along the way with her though.
*I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book.
My cr8zysockbookblock overall ratings for this book!
-Love triangle at its devastatingly finest!! I couldn’t put this book down. From the moment I started it, until it was done I was in it. Ella Fields never fails to have me enthralled by every single word she writes! Bravo!
– This book was hot, when you get there. There are two H’s in this book and our h has amazing chemistry with both it was off the charts, so super freaking hot.
Cliffhanger Warning- No cliffhanger! I loved the ending and thought she definitely ended up with the right H!!
Such an incredible story! Ella Fields gives us a love story where you can’t help but change your allegiance in this unusual love triangle. Stevie and Everett have a history from childhood, beginning with Stevie’s crush on Everett and her first kiss. The push and pull in their relationship is likely due to his volatile upbringing. Stevie meets Aiden when she is an adult. Aiden appears to be everything that Everett couldn’t be. And so it begins each man fights hard to win the girl. This is where it becomes difficult to stay true and root for just one man. Just as Stevie loves both men so did I. This is such an emotional story and it’s beautifully written with such care and it ends the only way it should. The epilogue is perfect. Easily your next 1 click!!!!
What a love triangle! This book is an absolute MUST READ if you love a great love triangle story. It’s full of angst and heartache that will make you want to read all in one sitting so be ready to not be able to put it down.
Ms Fields did it again. She let her words and characters steal my heart piece by piece. Her beautiful writing and her ability to come up with analogies that touch the deepest corners of your mind came strong in this book. Even though the plot was predictable, Ella managed to put some twists I didn’t see coming until they hit me hard. As much as I loved Serenading Heartbreak, I have to admit, the story flow didn’t sit well with me and the angst level was low in this one and the overall atmosphere felt a little tamed compared to her other books. Still, it’s a memorable read with a helluva love triangle that will make you conflicted and leave you questioning if it’s okay to be in love with two different men at the same time.
FINAL RATING: 4.25+ stars
~Books & Magic Shop Reviews~
I’m honestly horrible with love triangle, but I knew I had to pick this one up because an Ella Fields book has never let me down. This of course was also the case with Serenading Heartbreak.
The worst part of this book is that all the characters are SOOO GOOOD which makes reading a love triangle SOO HARD and puts you through the feels-mill and until you’re left as a crumpled mess on the floor. Gosh did Ella make this so difficult and so real. The story built on top of every scene, every moment.it pieced together the two lives of Stevie’s life for both us and Stevie herself. Loving two people isn’t a game and this book effortlessly displayed the beauty and the pain of love.
Serenading Heartbreak is addicting and time-consuming and heart-stopping and just phenomenal. I definitely hope you all take the plunge and explore this love story just like I did. It’s so worth it!

Stevie Sandrine is a teenager living in Plume Grove when she meets her first love. Everett Taylor is the gorgeous, mysterious boy who becomes best friends with her brother, and they start a band. He sings like a god, and eventually must follow his dreams of being a musician. Even though Stevie believes he’s her soulmate, it’s not their time. Soon she’s heartbroken, and haunted by thoughts of the boy who’d stolen her heart.
Over time she feels like she can breathe again, and realizes she’s possibly been waiting for something that may never happen. She finds out when one door closes, sometimes another one opens when she meets the charming, arrogant, persistent Aiden Prince. This sexy baseball player bulldozes his way into her life with his playful, lighthearted personality. His smile did something to her, and he intrigued and excited her. Friendship turns into more, and she can see the potential for something real and lasting. The problem is she still has unresolved feelings for Everett. She just wants a man she can trust, who will commit, and put her first. Fate gave her two men to love, but which one will be her future?
Serenading Heartbreak by Ella Fields is an emotional, heartbreaking love triangle that completely consumed me. Ella Fields aka the angst queen has done it again, and trampled all over my heart, but I loved every minute of it, and couldn’t put this book down! It’s a story about falling in love that will make you feel EVERYTHING!!! Every range of emotion you could possibly feel will hit you with this roller coaster ride that will repeatedly destroy you and then put you back together again. This is an all new standalone romance, but I would love a book for Hendrix!
I was so excited to read this story. Stevie is drawn into a difficult situation with loving two men… at the same time. Everett, the damaged soulful musician and Aiden, the cocky dependable baseball player. I had chosen sides almost immediately. A princely man who was utterly adorable and cheeky was my main man 😉
So I don’t ruin the story, I’m going to refer to the male characters as Mr. X and Mr. Y so you don’t know who is who. After all, I want you to experience the heartache for yourself! I have to say that Mr. X’s actions were frustrating. He was selfish and self absorbed for most of the story. He did redeem himself near the end but after everything Stevie had been through with him, I felt that she forgave him too easily. Mr. Y isn’t perfect either but he was dependable and loved Stevie more than anything. He was willing to try if only Stevie would give him a chance. I think that’s why it was hard for me to accept Stevie’s decision in the end because I had a favourite. This may be biased but that’s the beauty of reading stories. Everyone has their own interpretations and I’m sure others will be on the other side of the fence and that’s fine too.
I loved Stevie’s family. Her brother Hendrix really steps up and supports her when Mr. X bails. And Adela was my absolute favourite! She is such a great best friend for Stevie. She would say it like it is and was a comfort and supportive BBF when Stevie needed her the most. Overall, even though I didn’t agree with Stevie’s decision and wished she had made a different choice, I understood how to came to that point in her life. I think Ella’s words at the start of the story sum it up well: “Hearts are such unpredictable things, you can never control to whom they might sing.”
Ella Fields new standalone, Serenading Heartbreak, instantly captured my heart. This author makes you live in a world full of angst, anger and anguish. But don’t worry, there’s plenty of swoon worthy moments as well!! This is my absolute new favorite novel and new favorite character by Ella Fields! I have never fallen so hard so fast for this certain someone. I cannot highly recommend this enough! Must read!!
So I have finally found something good about long haul flights…
Uninterrupted reading when you have Ella Fields on your kindle, and 13 hours flying time ahead!!
Serenading Heartbreak is a stand out amongst my favourites for this year in heart destroying glory and is easily a 6 star read for me!
This epic love-triangle tale is up there with Kate Stewart’s Drive and K.L. Kreig’s Black Swan Affair in my opinion; Ella has so masterfully woven this beautiful heart wrenching story of Stevie’s love for two very different men, so much so that I was so torn as to who she should end up with, that I was even trying to bargain mentally with the author whilst reading, to let her have them both!
Not everybody will feel equally about these men; one is easy, sensitive and supportive, the other troubled and prone to self absorption and destruction.
Nor will we each ultimately agree with where Stevie’s decision rests in the end.
But I can almost guarantee you will be as invested emotionally as she is, such is the power of Fields’ affective words.
Her relationships with Everett and Aidan evolve throughout the book in a seesawing of alliances, passion and anger, and equally so to did my allegiance to each man follow suit.
They are both easy to love, and you will wear your heart on your sleeve and need to keep the tissues close as the finale beckons Everett’s ‘Clover’ and Aidan’s ‘Petal’, to leave one man behind.
I was captivated by these characters. They were young, and is done in youth, mistakes are made. This was more than a triangle, this was the epitome of love in an interesting dynamic.
“To fall in Love twice was a beautiful rarity. To be in love with two men at the same time was a cruel twist of fate.”
Ella Fields never disappoints. Her portrayal of young love and angst, oh the angst, is phenomenal. I could feel what the characters felt and visualize their interactions clearly. Loved it!
“You deserve to be someone’s entire world. Their first and only choice.”
I love Ella Fields writing style. It is beautiful. Easy to read. Easy to feel.
I definitely enjoyed this one. We are presented with some really young characters which we see evolve, grow and make mistakes. Cause that’s what we are best at when we’re young, right?
“Young, Dumb and In Love”
Awwww I fell in love with all these characters. I fell for the sweet, broken, stubborn, damaged, fighters and romantics.
As I was reading I highlighted so much and I found myself smiling with heart eyes.
Quote ~ “I love you.” Gradually, he’d snuck inside me, imbedding and making a home for himself beneath my flesh and bone.
Quote ~ “The way I love you, I can’t even tell you. One look at you, and every muscle in my body just fucking seizes.” Letting go of my chin, his eyes still firm on mine, he collected my hand to lay it on his chest over his pounding heart. “Especially this one.”
FYI- I almost opted out of NOT reading this because of the triangle (there’s been recent triangles that have NOT been written right and left a sour taste in my mouth) BUT I’M SOO GLAD I decided to read this one. I would’ve missed out on a great journey of life, love, heartbreak, acceptance and forgiveness.
The blurb to Serenading Heartbreak simplifies a story that is truly an angst lovers dream read.
Stevie Sandrine is an unlucky girl when it comes to love. Her heart is torn between her past with Everett Taylor, a bad boy musician who happens to be her brother’s best friend, and a new love with Aiden Prince, a gorgeous college baseball player.
This is not a sweet love triangle with an easy HEA. The emotions in this story are gritty, sad, and real. The love Stevie experiences is not cookie cutter perfect, it is sticky and messy, entangled with hopes and disappointments, love and misunderstandings, need and want. Everett and Aiden are not perfect men, but neither is Stevie. Everett is struggling to overcome a difficult childhood and Aiden, while he seems wonderful, is commitment phobic, but truthfully, so is Stevie. But through this messy love, I think Ella Fields beautifully shows that love doesn’t require perfection.
I have no idea what to write in my review for this book without being spoiler.
There’s so much I wanna tell you about Everett, Stevie and Aiden story.
How Ella Fields ripped my heart to pieces, sew it together and then to shredded my heart all over just to put it back together and still I give my heart completely to this author with out question.
I strongly advice you don’t read reviews cause that might ruin the story. I promise you, Ella will take good care of you with her story. Leaving you in ripped heart yet full of beautiful love story.
Oh my goodness! This book, you guys!
Ella is the queen of angst and having you on the edge of your seat the entire time you’re reading.
There were a few times I wanted to throw my kindle, but I refrained. (I love that thing too much lol)
This book is about exactly what the title implies, heartbreak, but there is so much more to the story. It’s not just about heartbreak, it’s about love, friendship, growing up, so many more thing’s that I can’t mention because of spoiler’s, just know that it’s not just about the agony of heartbreak.
As you can tell from the synopsis, this book has a love triangle. But let me tell you, this isn’t your normal cliche love triangle, not at all.
Ella really makes all of these characters so special and unique. She really makes you care for all of them. It’s not just white and black.
None of this book is just what you see is what you get. It is going to give you ALLL the feels.
I feel like with all of her books you get major feelings, but like I said this book delves into so many things, it’s Extra feels.
I will not spoil anything for anyone because it really is best going into this only knowing what you get from the synopsis. Just know that it’s all worth it and keep repeating that to yourself as you’re reading.
Enjoy the wild, wild ride.
This book had me like a yo-yo, but in the best way possible. Back and forth between two really great guys. One that is her brother’s first friend, her first crush, her first love, her first everything. The other she meets while in school and is everything her first wasn’t. She is torn and finds herself yo-yoing a bit too. I liked both of them, but damn-it I loved both guys for her. I am happy with the ending, they all got what they deserved in the end. I ran the gamut of emotions. Happiness, sadness, anger, shock, even laughed a little. This is classic Ella in that the angst is high and she writes it only as she can. Trust me, you want to read this book!
This book is effing epic! First, this is not a trope I would normally read, but I learned last year with Bloodstained Beauty that Ella Fields writes some of the best words I’ve ever seen on a page. So take a risk, I think you’ll love it!
Serenading Heartbreak has all the makings of an amazing story, one that has hit my top five for 2019; smart, sexy, fun and a heartwrenching rollercoaster ride 9f an ending that I didn’t see coming until the last two pages!
“And I had to wonder if that was what love was? Did loving someone grant you the ability to smother your own desperation long enough to see theirs? To want to aid in setting them free from their demons within?”
Ella has the ability to tell a story with amazing side characters, plotlines, and story arc that few possess. I have two pages of quotes for Serenading Heartbreak, and I’m already planning a re-read. A beautifully heartbreaking story, from one of the Queens in forbidden romance!!
It’s been a few days since I finished this emotional and heartbreaking story, and I still don’t know how to properly convey in words how I feel.
I did enjoy this story -a lot, but I couldn’t get to the point where I loved it. And trust me – I really wanted to. And I think it’s because the person that truly held Stevie’s heart and soul wasn’t my favorite. Both men hurt her and walked away at times, but one of them tried to be with other women and couldn’t…..but one did……and that to me is why I felt a stronger connection and wanted her with the one man. There were other things too, but I can’t really say without spoiling the whole story.
And I totally get why she picked who she did – looking back, the evidence is all there in front of me. I was just really hoping it would swing back the other way and turn out differently. Am I ok with Stevie’s decision? When I first ended this story, I wasn’t – and I’m still not totally there yet. But, after a little more time, I know I will be.
It’s no secret that I am a sucker for a good love triangle, so when I heard one of my top fave authors was writing one, it was like music to my ears! (see what I did there *wink*) I knew I was in for a ride because Ella has mastered the ability to bring “all the feels” with her stories, so I knew that this one would do just that. SERENADING HEARTBREAK truly was an emotionally breathtaking story about not only finding your first love, but also being lucky enough to find a second love and then ultimately having to choose between the two. *insert angst here* “A love that rivaled another.”
I L-I-V-E for this kinda pain while reading! Maybe I’m a masochist, but I just can’t get enough of this “it hurts so good” types of stories and Ella gave me that with SERENADING HEARTBREAK. My heartstrings were pulled in MANY directions while reading this book. This book felt much like a song, just as the story would build to a budding crescendo, all cadence would halt and the melody would start all over again, but with a different feel, a different mood because more layers/emotions had been added to the story, so the feel and beat would change. Also much like a song, the chorus of this book was on repeat throughout the story. It showed through the unwavering feelings toward her true love. (I won’t hint at who because that would ruin the story, right? I guess you’ll have to read it to find out *wink*)
Ella gave me EXACTLY what I love about triangles. Angst, love, heartache, heartbreak, hope, joy, pain…and much more. She pulled me in two separate directions. Two very different futures, depending on WHO would be chosen. Stevie would’ve truly been happy with either guy, but ultimately, I knew and SHE knew, who a bigger piece of her heart belonged to. One love that would always overshadow the other. Her heart may have expanded to love two men, but her heart always beat for ONE guy.
If you’re looking for an addictive story that will have your heart divided, then this is the story for you!
5 “eventually” stars
My heart… My brain… My entire being has gone to mush. This book just completely destroyed me.
Serenading Heartbreak by Ella Fields is a book made not only to angst the hell outta you, but to also find multiple ways to crush your heart. This book shall be named the whole being of angst, and the reason why I cannot think coherent thoughts or write coherent sentences.
This book is incredible in so many ways: incredibly angsty, which I have already expressed; incredibly emotional, you will get ALL the feels from this bad boy and those bad boys inside of it, and incredibly powerful: this book touches on so many things that really make you think.
One thing that I loved about this book was that it was real, it was messy. As much as it tortured the characters, it also tortured me too. I went along the ride, not knowing what was going to happen, but still needing to be there with them along the ride.
The ending had me all kinds of messed up. Actually, scratch that, the entire book has me all kinds of messed up. When you look at these two men and see underneath them, you understand them a bit more. My heart got swept away by the one guy, where my heart didn’t trust the other. Would I have made the same choice as Stevie? Maybe not, but do I understand that she followed her heart and did what was right for her? Yes. Because your gut is almost always never wrong. It wasn’t the perfect choice for me, but it was for her.
What I love about this is how it looks at addiction at all angles, and how it affects others by it. It was a very, very real representation of what addiction can do to everybody, and I give the author a round of applause for that.
I have my favourites in the book, but I’m not going to spoil it for you. I’m not THAT cruel, but what I do have to say is that this man deserves all the happiness in the world and that I am waiting for him when he is ready (lol).
Serenading Heartbreak is a tale of three people caught in a tangled web of love and don’t know how to escape without heartbreak. It was angsty, emotional and wonderful in every single way.
DISCLAIMER: Love triangle story ahead. You’ve been warned.
Ella Fields is the mistress of angst noone does it better. Her storytelling never fails to pull me in and I always end up obsessed with the characters.
Ella has written a heart stoppingly emotional story. This will test your boundaries of what your comfortable with. The reader is taken on a journey that you may not want to go on. Every drop of pain you feel is worth it. Usually in a love triangle I have a favourite the one I want the heroine to end up with. Ella wrote characters of such depth my heart was just as conflicted as Stevie. Everett and Aiden two very different men both so worthy of love.
Everything I adore about love triangles is in this book. The heartache the pain and the guilt of loving two men. At times it felt like my emotions has reached their maximum. You broke me Ella. So deserving of more than 5 stars.
