REVIEW: 5 WTF STARS
“We were never supposed to make something out of moments.”
I’m writing this review with a slightly broken heart. I sat for a few minutes with my head in my hands, pondering….thinking….mulling over what I just read, wondering why the heart is a warrior the mind chooses to battle. I went in knowing this was a triangle, and if you’ve followed me for any amount of time, I’ve made no secret that this is my favorite kind of story/trope because the pull between two lovers gets me every time. There was nothing different about this book in that aspect. Ella Fields sits very comfortably in my Top 5 Favorite Authors and this book is the exact reason why. No matter if I was #TeamRocker or #TeamBaller, the turmoil and heartache Stevie went through to get her HEA astounded me. I feel like she was the strongest woman mentally – but emotionally, she was beaten down and thrown around. I definitely can admire her tenacity, but I can also say I understand her. One hundred percent understand her. I’d be Weak too, girlfriend. Weak with a capital W.
Fields is brilliant with her emotional manipulation, as well as her storytelling abilities. I don’t know how she makes it to where she can tell a full story when I’m only a quarter of the way through, but knowing there is more to come is what scared me the entire ride. I was so immersed in this book, in the emotions, in the pain. The desire and need her characters ached for was tumultuous at best. It was poetic. It was, quite literally….heartbreaking.
“In case you haven’t noticed, you’re kind of really fucking beautiful.”
In one breath, I’m smiling…..a few pages later, my heart is breaking. I just couldn’t reconcile my heart with my mind. This was truly a mess for my mind and heart from the first page until the very end of the book. I was clinging to hope until I turned the very last page. That is what Ella did to me. That is why I love Ella’s words so much. It’s because it’s not always easy and it’s not always clean, but it’s always meant to be.
“He was a drug, and I’d constantly relapse whenever he was made available to me.”
If you aren’t a fan of a messy kind of love, you know the kind: the drop down, drag out, break your heart kind of love, then this might not be your cuppa. Ella writes the BEST messiest love. The best. She can give us dirrrrrty like no other. Not dirty as in hot, sexy dirty – although she most definitely can do that. I simply mean, it wasn’t a clean read for the heart. My heart got muddled, and if I was having a hard time with some of the actions and reactions going on in this book, I can only imagine Stevie being emotionally connected to both men and being lost in her world. I feel like I lost a piece of my heart in this story. I don’t think I’ve ever walked away from a triangle wishing she chose the other. Does that mean I am mad at the outcome or the book? Hell no. Quite the opposite. That just means Ella took me to hell and back, and that road was a long and bumpy one. But this is also why I love triangles.
“We don’t choose who and what we fall in love with, even when it’s a hazard to one’s self.”
Ella’s depth in her books amazes me. She gets to the nitty-gritty, deep underbelly of emotion and just dissects it until my heart is just putty, malleable with her words. She nails the depth every time. I never go into one of her books and walk away having not felt it. This one, I felt it on every level and it will sit with me for a very long time. I love when an author can manipulate my emotions with their words – in book form only, obviously. And Ella does that extremely well.
“You didn’t forsake the soul to save an organ. Hearts had an expiration date; the soul was immortal.”
Here I was, completely excited things were going the way I was hoping, but then she threw in twist after twist until my heart inevitably broke and waited for reparation. I am still sitting in somewhat of a fog, heartbroken. Absolutely heartbroken. The title of this book is so aptly named, it’s truth on every level. Turmoil, anguish – I’m feeling it all. I need someone to take all this pain, all this heartache, and dispose of it for me. Kthxbye.
“Forgiveness was a desperate heart’s mistake.”

Serenading Heartbreak is a new adult romance featuring a love triangle that will have you ripping your hair out and clutching your heart! The angst alone will drive you to the edge! You’ll curse, smile, sigh, laugh, tear up, and possibly even throw your book across the room depending on how crazy the characters make you, so you know, basically the same as you do with every other Ella Fields novel. Lol The woman is the queen of angst, and for an angst whore like myself, she is a godsend!
Every single time Ella announces a new novel, I lose my shit. I know it’s going to be utterly captivating, fantastically written, full of the feels, steamy, and overflowing with angst. She never let’s me down, and she certainly didn’t with this one. I couldn’t put the book down once I started reading it. I even went without sleep, because I had to find out how it all ended. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who Stevie was going to choose. Everett or Aiden?
There could be only one choice in the end. I truly believe the man Stevie picked is who she was meant to be with without a shadow of a doubt, but I would be lying if I told you I was one hundred percent happy with the outcome. How could I be when my heart was torn in two? I began to care for both men, and I couldn’t help but feel heartbroken for the “loser.” I honestly wish we got a book watching his happily ever after unfold to make me feel better, but you know what? That just goes to show you how amazing of a writer Ella is!
She made me invested in every character’s fate and happiness. I could see what there was to love about each of them and what made them all deserve a happily ever after. My heart was tethered to all three characters, and I truly believe that is what makes a good love triangle. If one is an obvious throw away love interest, what’s the point?
Love triangles are one of the most controversial tropes in all of romance, and because of that, I’m sure there will be a myriad of opinions on this book. The one thing that nobody can dispute though is that the writing in this book is superb. Whether you love who Stevie ends up with or not, your eyes will be glued to the page from start to finish. Your feelings will become involved in a big way, and you’ll have lots of opinions on the actions of each of the main characters. If you’re like me, you’ll need to purge yourself of all of your emotions when you’re done, and if you don’t have a book friend that’s read it, I’m here for you! Lol
New adult romance fans that don’t shy away from an ass load of angst and a love triangle, this one’s for you!
P. S. Ella if you read this, write Hendrix’s story for us. Please and thank you! :p
*4 Stars*
This one was a very interesting read, and it was tricky to work out which of the male heroes I wanted Stevie (our heroine), to end up with. This was a love triangle of epic proportions, and was such a rollercoaster of a ride.
So many ups and downs, and quite a lot of angst. I definitely preferred one of the guys over the other, and half the time I wasn’t sure about Stevie’s choices. Definitely a book that made me wonder and think.
Enjoyed this, and looking forward to reading more from this author.
OMG! This is the first book I’ve read by Ella Fields and I’m kicking myself for not picking up her books sooner! This book was phenomenal!! I literally had to take a break so I could get my emotions in check and I wound up picking it right back up because I had to know what was in store for these three amazing characters . I truly loved each one of them and found myself rooting for both men but my heart literally ached for Stevie and I so did not envy her situation even though it is amazing to not only fall in love once but twice I don’t think I could handle the heartache of having to choose but I truly believe that Stevie loved both Everett and Aiden but only one of them was her forever love . This book was such a amazing heartbreaking emotional angsty new adult romance that I wish I could give it 10 stars and it’s definitely one of my favorite reads of 2019 and I’m now going to be reading everything I can get my hands on by this wonderful author !
I stopped my current read when I saw that this came out early. I don’t know what it is about this author, but when I start her books at night, I’m like sleep who? We don’t know her.
I love me a good love triangle. I know it’s not everyone’s jam but between that and the rollercoaster of hella angst, my eyeballs were glued to this story and my emotions were all over the place. There’s some stellar storytelling in here. I really, really, really enjoyed it.
Warning: This is not a Lullaby
I have spent a good part of the past 24 hours immersed in Serenading Heartbreak. I could barely work or function today because I could not put it down. This book stole my breath and made me cry. It is my latest 5 star read!!
This story is a heartbreakingly beautiful masterpiece. I don’t know what inspired this gorgeous tale, but the result is absolute perfection. I feel blessed to have read it.
Stevie, Everett, and Aiden are characters who make an immediate impact in the heart and mind. The are flawed and yet so absolutely loveable that they thrive in the memory long after the pages of the book are closed.
Their struggles and triumphs were mine. I celebrated, laughed, screamed in anguish and shed copious amounts of tears along with these passionate souls.
The secondary characters are also noteworthy and arguably deserving of having their stories told in future books.
In my opinion, the most fascinating aspect of Serenading Heartbreak is the absolutely engaging and captivating style in which the story is written. It seeps into then pores and fills every little emotional space that can be reached and affected by the complexities of real life situations. Serenading Heartbreak demands one’s complete attention. Ella Fields has, again, proven she is worthy to wear the crown as the Queen of Angst.
Ella, Ella, Ella. I would have liked to think we are friends (though we’ve never met) but then you do this to me…
Serenading Heartbreak is a brutal, angst filled Mack truck of emotions barreling down the freeway at a helpless and very stuck reader while they pray it will go around them…Except Ella is driving said truck with no brakes at full speed and shows zero remorse as she grins a twisted smile in our direction. The sheer malicious joy in her eyes should have been a warning…BUT NO, this hopeless romantic was like “no Ella would never!” WRONG. Ella did. ELLA WAS HAPPY TO RUN YOU OVER WITH THAT BIG @SS TRUCK! SHE WAS GIGGLING IN GLEE WHILE YOU LAY BLEEDING OUT CLUTCHING FOR SOMETHING, ANYTHING….CLINGING TO HOPE!!!!
It’s safe to say that Ella Fields is NOT my friend. The blurb to Serenading Heartbreak is exactly what you need to expect. Do not let your unicorn wishing heart twist that blurb into glitter dust and cupcakes! No, Ella Fields is a savage. She is going to lull you into a false sense of forever and then ravage what’s left of your heart over and over again. Do not fall for it. Be strong. Hope is dead. Don’t believe in hope…
Ugh, fine. I can’t even pretend to be pessimistic. Serenading Heartbreak is the best kind of hurt money can buy. It may not feel like it, you may not like me either, but this book is going to hurt in the best way possible. You will fall helplessly in love with two men. You will declare your allegiance to both while pitying Stevie for the same. Allegiance will change, hearts will be broken, but HOPE (that twisted b!tch) will be waiting to wrap you in her arms and keep you hanging on with desperate grabby hands. You won’t even truly be mad either. Hope has a way of convincing us that all will be perfect. Everything will work out in the end…
Today, Hope was right!
Reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
The Angst Queen has finally arrived! Oh my, my emotions were chaotic, messy and all over the place. This book definitely took a big chunk of my heart. Everett and Stevie met when they were younger. The little Everett really broke my heart..He didnt have it easy and it played on his young adult life….
Stevie my sweet gal.. I love childhood love crush. Her gentle soul to love both men really made me cry.. I cant imagine the frustration with this chaotic love. What to do? SH was personal and it spoke so loudly about young adulthood drama. This book was well written so good.. I feel sadness and the struggle beyond hope. The under layer hurt and personal issues
Oh my gosh my heart! You know a book is well written when you put a book down and the next day you cannot stop thinking about it. I finished this book late last night and these characters are still on my mind. Ella Fields is a master of emotional, angsty romance and this one was no different. I am generally not a fan of a triangle love story unless it is written right and ohhh is it ever! The way she writes this book will have you turning the pages until the end. This book was an EPIC roller coaster ride of emotions. My heart was breaking one moment and happy the next. It will wreck and ruin you in the best possible way.
I fell in love with the teenage love of Everett and Stevie immediately. Everett’s character was so mysterious intitally. Right from the beginning you know that he doesnt have a favorable home life and you immediately want to know more about him.
But then enter Aiden and my heart couldn’t take it! I fell for him even more, even knowing Stevie was no where near ready to close the book on Everett and the anticipation of how it would all play out had my heart in shambles.
The story is chalk full of heartbreak and mistakes but either way I was routing for all of them to get their happy ending. A definite 5 star read for me! Such an incredibly journey.
**I was given an ARC in exchange of an honest review
This book gutted me… it truly was AMAZING!!!
I think I pretty much went through all
the motions one goes through when a book
is this good. It was real, raw, and it had every
bit of what life can give you. What else can I say
other than that this authors words bled right
through, you can feel that a lot of raw feelings
were poured into the book.
I adore the angst of this story! I wish it could’ve been made into a duet to fully build up the characters’ relationships so the heartbreak truly wrecks us. But other than that, the confusion between two loves is spot on.
This book is a love triangle that had me by the clutches and the angst alone will drive you to the edge.!!!
Ella fields certainly didnt hold back in exploring stevie’s journey with both the men and the paths she went down were certainly fatal and prone to heartbreaks.
Both men came into her life at very different points of her life and she loved them with all her heart.
The way everett calls her clover and aiden calls her petal certainly has me swooning.
It is a love triangle and none of them are evil which makes my heart hurt more because i know in the end someone is going to get their heart broken and if the one i like loses the girl , it hurts even more.
Ms.Fields certainly kept on the edge about which guy stevie would choose and even tho the final choice wasnt who i would choose ik he is the best choice because he is her other half.
it is very unpredictable and certainly a page turner with a twisted romance.

I absolutely love Ella’s writing style and storytelling, and this one is way up there as my all-time favorite Ella book!
Ella tells an exceptional story of angst and heartbreak, with Stevie being in love with two men at the same time, and honestly, I don’t think anyone could have told the story better.
As with all of the books I’ve read by Ella, this one is highly recommended!
My favorite book EVER I read this book in 2 days. I love this book so much, and the characters are literally the best.
Ok this is my first from Ella Fields AND I AM HOOKED!
I lost way too much sleep over reading this. What an addictive emotional story – where I honestly felt connected to every character.
This story follows Stevie, who falls for her brothers best friend and band mate, Everett, the mysterious handsome neighbour from across to street. Only to find he also has fallen for her. They have a secret love relationship behind her brothers back in their teen years – for it only to be delayed when Everett gets the opportunity to go on tour with the band. This causes a riff between Stevie and Everett as Stevie continues on her life without Everett, and Everett finds himself turning to alcohol and other women to distract himself.
Jump forward to over a year later, and Stevie is at college where she meets Aiden.
Aiden is everything a woman needs. Handsome, kind and loyal – For the first time in over 5 years, Stevie finds herself falling for someone that isn’t Everett. Aiden and her become best friends that slowly commences into romance that is strong and stable. But in the back of her mind, Everett is still there.
Everett then of course returns and wants Stevie back. Creating love triangle drama for Stevie, whose heart is with Aiden at the time of his return.
I’ll be honest – I got so annoyed at Stevie at times. She had two boys loving her and she still whined (haha)! But the epilogue was brilliant and I definitely think she made the right choice.
I started this book in the morning, and didn’t put it down until I was finished. (I skipped breakfast, lunch, and dinner). This was such. A. Good. Book. The characters stick with you.
It’s 4.06am. I am done. I just woke my husband crying & got yelled at for reading so late BUT I COULD NOT STOP READING!!!
EXTRAORDINARY. F#CKING EXTRAORDINARY…
This is the kind of book that punches you in the chest repeatedly but you like it. A true triangle where I was Team Flip Flop for a lot of the book as these characters grew, made mistakes and loved so fiercely it hurt. And the Epilogue – well I loved that so much I give it all the stars!!!!
It’s raw, it’s painful, it’s crazy hot, it’s hilarious and beautiful and it just about destroyed me!
What a book. What a f#cking ending
Five torturing/addicting stars! This book is pure and brutal agony exposed in a messy love story.
I’m a masochistic for angst and chaotic romances that are able to bare my soul and heart. And Ella Fields always delivers those real and complicated romances that punch you direct in your heart, bruising your tender organ making it burn to ashes. Life and love are a turmoil of sweet chaos, raw and messy pain and craziness just like Stevie, Everett and Aiden’s story. It’s brutal, it’s painful, and it’s insanely hot. This love triangle romance is exquisitely unique and to real that you will experience a lot of rough emotions. It is crazy and unpredictable. Triangle romances are never easy because they are complex and they expose raw feelings that could end in something messy or beautiful. They tend to grab your heart and crush it until it’s hard to breathe. Serenading Heartbreak is beautiful agony. It’s more than a simple love triangle romance. It is pure grief and emotional fuss, an epic roll coaster!
Ella Fields is one of the author I can trust my heart even when I know she will crash it with her angsty and powerful romances. And this time she nailed it! Her writing is dangerously addicting and very refreshing. Serenading Heartbreak is literally a crescendo of a captivating symphony that lulls you into heartbreak and into an emotional whirlwind that will make you feel everything. You will cry. You will laugh. You will scream. You will hate it but most you will love it.
This book enamoured me. It cut my chest exposing my heart to brutal emotions that kept me captive and beautifully vulnerable. I was torn between such distinct characters that my heart ached for the three of them. Stevie, Everett and Aiden. Three different souls tied up for love. Three hearts that beat apart. Three stories tragically turned upside and down by life and fate. In a wicked form, my heart loved both heroes but as Stevie, my heart loved one more than the other. Ella Fields made sure that readers love them both as the heroine, making it hard and agonising although their journey was painfully and beautifully raw.
Serenading Heartbreak is poetically dramatic, a beautiful rarity, a cruel twist of fate. Words didn’t come easy to me when I was writing this review. How can you encapsulate all the feelings a book like this evoked so roughly in you? Almost impossible, isn’t it? Ella Fields penned a poignant story that cocooned me in a forbidden and so perfect bubble. She created a thorned romance coloured in many shades. So breathtakingly. So poetic. So unique. So raw.
Stevie, Everett and Aiden’s story was turbulent, almost unhealthy, young and wild. In one word a beautiful mess! It was so painful and frustrating at the same time as real as emotional. Grief searching hope. Love finding its way in a tough way were forgiveness and new beginnings collide. Souls splitting down the middle. Pieces of you stolen forever. Their story taught me many things during this roller coaster love, the most prevalent of all being courage. When things get hard, you don’t run away, you face them and don’t give up and fight.
Jesus! The tears, the heartbreak and the LOVE! No amount of alcohol and crying would ever get me over this beyond beautiful book. Stevie, Ever and Aiden have ripped my heart out! Definitely the best reads of 2019! Being a Ella Fields fan, I can proudly say that this is her BEST work till date. She has crossed her limits and proved how spectacular she is! I’m normally not a fan of books who focus on love triangles… but this one is not like those books at all. Yes, she is in love with two men but the journey of Stevie- how she fell in love, how her heart broke and how she built up the courage was a emotional rollercoaster ride.
Stevie is one of the greatest heroines I ever read. I can’t even begin to imagine what its like to be her. Her first love was with Everett- the broken new boy in town who lived for music. Their lingering gazes, small talks and just being in eachothers company made them fall inlove… Their love for one another left me in tears, afterall she was his Clover.
As life took a turn and they grew up- you see the changes, the going and coming back. The heartbreak that followed. And during that we meet Aiden and OH my heart loved him! He was her friend. Her lover and her companion. That’s when Stevie’s life takes a turn, she’s finds herself feeling lost in love. I thought controlling yourself would’ve been easy if you had a reason to. Then Aiden bulldozed his way into my life, and I’d soon learn not everything could be controlled.
Everett: Amazing character! You hate him one moment and five seconds later your LOVING him! He’s a forever kind of a guy. The one who will stay with you forever. He’s broken and ruined and I’m glad Stevie fixes him. His journey is inspiring and encouraging. I love him SO SO SO much! Words can’t explain. Ever is forever
Aiden: He’s so precious and sweet. Everyone needs a person like him in their life’s. Stevie helped Everett’s broken heart, and the broken pieces of her that was ruined by him, was fixed by Aiden. He surely is incredible and sweet. My heart went out to him and his journey!
My thoughts: When the book starts, you already have a pick on your favorite boy. I did too. But as the book goes on, the emotional torment continues and you feel like your in Stevie’s shoes. Her and Aiden never shared the same bond as she had with Ever but I honestly felt torn between the two boys. Like Stevie, I fell inlove with both of them too and it was hard to watch one of them stay with her and other to leave but the ending of this book will leave you satisfied.
There was always ONE LOVE of Stevie that stayed FOREVER, it was beautiful and real.
Ella Fields has done a remarkable job with her writing. Each word she wrote felt like it came from heart. And I’m so excited to what she brings next. This book is fantastic and I recommend everyone to read this 5 star+ book!

Here are my overall ratings:
Hero: 5+
Heroine: 5+
Plot: 5
Angst: 5+
Steam: 5
Chemistry between the main characters: 5+
Serenading Heartbreak by Ella Fields, if you haven’t gathered from the title alone is about…well, heartbreak. Filled with baseball players, musicians, and a love triangle for the books, this isn’t for the faint-hearted. It’s disturbingly raw, filled with landfilled tons of angst, and punched me in the gut repeatedly from the beginning.
I loved the writing and its flow. Loved the characters and just overall loved the story. I’m glad to say I didn’t flip flop during this book but I almost came close because these men definitely give each other a run for their money. But I’ve always been a sucker for first loves and second chances so I have my mind set pretty much from the beginning. I thought I knew what I was getting myself into but this was literally a rollercoaster ride of emotions, almost painful to read.
Downright toxic, broken, and heartbreaking, but it didn’t deter me or Stevie in the slightest from falling in love. Absolutely must-read!
