Lyrical, imaginative, and wholly original, this New York Times bestseller with 8 starred reviews is not to be missed. Rachel Hartman’s award-winning debut will have you looking at dragons as you’ve never imagined them before… In the kingdom of Goredd, dragons and humans live and work side by side — while below the surface, tensions and hostility simmer. The newest member of the royal court, a … court, a uniquely gifted musician named Seraphina, holds a deep secret of her own. One that she guards with all of her being. When a member of the royal family is brutally murdered, Seraphina is drawn into the investigation alongside the dangerously perceptive — and dashing — Prince Lucien. But as the two uncover a sinister plot to destroy the wavering peace of the kingdom, Seraphina’s struggle to protect her secret becomes increasingly difficult… while its discovery could mean her very life.

Another problem only YA characters can relate to: I have a huge, terrible secret that no one can ever know about. JK, everyone knows.
That’s basically the plot of Seraphina
These fantasy books (Seraphina and the sequel Shadow Scale) featuring unique shifter-dragons and a wonderful, diverse cast of characters, including trans and gay characters, as well as a progressive polyamorous end-game were simply wonderful. Highly recommended. I’d love to see more in this fascinating and well-drawn universe. One of my top reads …
A wonderful book overall. I picked this up when it was still only available as a hardcover and went into it excited to support a debut author. The writing style was enjoyable to read, and the romance (me being someone who doesn’t like much of that in my media) was enjoyable and fun. I recommend this book to anyone who asks.
3 Stars
Seraphina is the first book in the Seraphina Series by Rachel Hartman. This is an original take on the whole dragon lore. It’s a wonderful fantasy with plenty of drama, murder, intrigue, secrets, investigations, plots, adventure, and suspense. I was really excited to discover this book amongst the thousands on my TBR, and chose it as part …
Seraphina glitters with particularity in details, taking elements from our own medieval history and blending it with strange saints and dragons that can fold themselves into human shape.
A highly original fantasy novel with great characters. Sepaphina is a wonderfully three dimensional protagonist. I couldn’t put this book down.
Couldn’t put this book down!
I enjoyed that Seraphina is a unique twist on fantasy for lovers of the Eragon trilogy and the Lord of the Rings series. Plot is a little more gentle with less war and violence, but enjoyable with a different approach to dragon-lore.
I loved this story set at Biltmore. I could picture it as I was reading!
Great writing. Interesting story line. Likeable and engaging characters. Focus on racial prejudices and prejudging mind sets was nicely done. I would definitely read more by this author
Great read
If you like pure fantasy then you like this book. Loved all the characters! It took me a little bit to understand the different made up terms, but definitely liked it.
