Rosamund Pilcher paints such vivid word pictures in “September” you can smell peat smoke from the village chimneys. Made to feel like part of the family, the reader is pulled right into a long overdue reunion where inevitably people’s flaws are revealed. Like a hearty Scottish meal, this book satisfies, making you glad you lingered at the table, …
This Rosamunde Pilcher book is an annual read for me. Her writing is full of warmth, and her characters have stuck with me over the years. Cannot recommend this one highly enough!
Liked the story however she has too much to say in describing a scene. I found myself wanting to get on with the story. I will read another, because the story itself was enjoyable
This book rates as one of my favourites of all time. It is one book that I go back to again and again. A sweeping, family saga, set against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands – it is beautifully written and offers delightful escapism. I am a huge fan of Rosamunde Pilcher and was saddened to learn of her death earlier this year. Her ability to …
There are some books that I love but don’t feel a need to ever read again. And then there are books like “September”.
I’ve lost count of the number of times that I’ve read this lovely novel. And every time I do, I get completely lost in the world that the author creates, a world of rural Scottish life, sprawling but close-knit families, …
The book is a fun glimpse into the lives of a fictional Scottish family. Very entertaining until the disturbing twist at the end.
You can smell the Fall season through the beautiful description of her words.
I truly enjoyed this book and didn’t want it to end. The difficult past relationships between the characters and the sadness in their pasts was developed nicely into the present. I wanted to be there in the book, I don’t often feel that way.
Pilcher doesn’t disappoint. She creates interesting, believable characters. And I love her attention to detail; she lets you see Scotland and the homes, without being at all boring.
Have always loved Rosamunde Pilcher’s novels. They transport one to a world so different from one’s own. She writes so that you really care about the wonderful characters who live in her world.
This is a soothing book, especially in this time of turmoil. Great characters.
Love her books!
Very good book. Highly recommend.
This is an amazing book. I urge you to read it. You will be reminded of family members and friends in the characters of the novel. The writing allows you to see the scenery, hear the voices, and experience the joy and sorrow of the people
Beautifully story with delightful characters. Even the flawed characters have a sweetness about them. A book to keep to reread again and again.
Love her books. Re visiting them after many years. Well worth the read.
Great read, although the follower was far less then expected.
I loved the setting in Scotland, with the many descriptions of local scenery and flora and fauna. The characters’ lives were entwined in real community.
Wonderful family story with great descriptions of the Scottish countryside.
Rosamund. Pilcher paints a vivid picture of the life in Scotland’s beautiful countryside and the families that live there. If you loved The Shell Seekers, you will love this book.
