New York Times bestselling author LaVyrle Spencer presents a beautiful and moving tale of a false marriage that leads to true love. The wedding of Clay Forrester and Catherine Anderson was the social event of the season. It seemed like a page out of a fairy tale. But everything about it—from the formal vows to the magnificent reception—was a lie. Catherine had reluctantly agreed to Clay’s … agreed to Clay’s “marriage of convenience”—and the only thing that could threaten their arrangement was the unexpected arrival of love.
“A superb story.”—Los Angeles Times
“LaVyrle Spencer’s legions of fans are drawn to her fiction because of its uncalculated emotion and the author’s almost old-fashioned sense of integrity.”—Chicago Tribune
“LaVyrle Spencer is magic!”—Affaire de Coeur

I have read and reread Ms. Spencer’s books over the years. I enjoyed this one originally ( 1980s ) but it hasn’t really aged well. It is still a good story but nagging details distract from the story overall. I know she is retired but an updated version would be a better read.
The characters are realistic and likable.
This book was excellent and I couldn’t put it down! It made me cry- multiple times and that is no easy feat. Loved Loved Loved it!!
Great read, wonderful character development!
Interesting, but I prefer a “show” rather than “tell” type of storytelling
I loved it !
Classic Love Story. Laveryl Spencer is a go to for good love story.
I first read this book years ago, so when it appeared on BookBub I jumped at the chances to visit with two of my all time characters, Catherine and Clay.
love all her books
I have read most of LaVyrle Spencer’s books. I have read her books at least twice and never get tired of reading them. She is my favorite author.
I loved this book from page one. Laverne Spencer is a wonderful writer and her books, all of them, are captivating. They keep you reading page after page and make you believe in love. I wish she would start writing again because I just keep on rereading her books again and again.
Really boring
One of my all-time favorite authors.
It is a shame that Spencer stopped writing many years ago. I could always depend on her for an emotional read with great characters in real life situations.
I love most of LaVeryl Spencer’s books. This book presents a dilemma for a young woman trying to escape poverty. This could be a Cinderella story, but it isn’t. Both the young man and young woman have to escape entrenched expectations and values to value each other. This is not a superficial story, but it captures and holds the reader’s interest all the way. Well worth reading.
I am a huge fan of Lavyrle Spencer and have never read one of her books that I did not enjoy.
Loved it. All of Lavyrle Spencer’s book are touching and romantic.
This has always been one of my favorites. Ms. Spencer’s writing is timeless. I read almost all of her books many years ago. I have purchased many for my Kindle, but all of the stories were full
Of grammatical errors, typos and errors in context. It is very sad that the editing was terrible because Spencer’s writing is usually flawless . I reported the issue sto Amazon, but have not received any confirmation of updates or corrections.
I read this book over 25 years ago. It has remained one of my all-time favorite books. It is written in a way that pulls your emotions into it.
I had read this before and it was nice to revisit the times and the characters. M
