“One of the best historical novels I’ve had the pleasure to read in years.” – WorkingGirl Reviews.
“The story was captivating, the characters real, the dialogue crisp. I admit to having cried and laughed and even having wanted to murder a character and beat another one within an inch of his life — which is simply a testament to how well written these books are.” – AmericanEditor.

I could not put down. All the books in the series are excellent
A wonderful book about life in New Zealand at the turnoff the 20th century. I enjoyed the series very much
Good book, a great main character
I was obsessed with this book & the other 2 in the trilogy. Was so sad to say goodbye to the characters
This is a very good book with raw truth as to the way things were in that day and time. I purchased the next to books in this series. Makes one thankful for the good life we have.
I could not put this book down while reading it, so when I came to the end I immediately bought the 3 books that follow. It is so well written and seems so very truthful. Tears streamed down my face at certain times in the book. Ms Parkinson does a wonderful job developing the characters and the story line. Loved these books.
Be sure to read all 3 books in the series as this is not a stand-alone. This book haunts you. Found myself thinking about it often and could not put it down. I read until 6 am one night! Long but I felt it was well worth reading the series.
I enjoyed this book and would read more of the story. This book was easy to read and I didn’t want to put it down. This author is very good at sucking you into the characters and story to keep you wanting to read it.
Excellent and entertaining historical novel. I have since purchased the other books in the series and am now on book 4!
I really enjoyed this series.
I NEVER buy series but Shayne Parkinson had me hooked with her sympathetic characters. I bought the last two installments AND the sequel through the website the author recommended. Half price discount. They kept me enthralled for an entire week! I felt as if I was “a fly on the wall” as the various events were vividly described!
Though somewhat sad, this boo really had my attention. I am on to the 2nd one now!
I was so angry at the sorry way Amy was treated that It was hard to read next book. I am glad that I did. I read the entire collection. I had to see Jimmy received just rewards.
I enjoyed the whole series. Really good story line and lots of great characters
A fabulous read…historically insightful and I couldn’t put it down!!!
I could not put this book down. The characters were so real and i was instantly immersed into the story. You have brought these times into perspective for me.
Excellent book. I didn’t want to put down. Touching story about a young girl and betrayal.
Enjoyed the story and the time period (late 1800’s). Gave a good sense of what life on a farm was at that time, with everyday living situations, fashions, customs and culture. A good read.
This was one of the most wonderful books I have read. I am on the 4th book in the series. You will love these books but be aware the beginning is a little slow going.
