“One of the best historical novels I’ve had the pleasure to read in years.” – WorkingGirl Reviews.
“The story was captivating, the characters real, the dialogue crisp. I admit to having cried and laughed and even having wanted to murder a character and beat another one within an inch of his life — which is simply a testament to how well written these books are.” – AmericanEditor.

Got this book free through BookBub and loved it so much bought the entire series.
Characters are well-developed. Book leaves you hanging. This is the first in a series and you are left wanting to know what happens next. Unfortunately, some parts are predictable.
Very interesting book. It makes you feel like you are living the story with her.
Very well written. Obviously the writer researched the period well. There was a couple places where I felt confused and rushed, park with father, or I would have given a perfect review. No one will like the ending. I felt cheated that one more chapter wasn’t included to tie up the loose ends. I felt big brother needed closure and we needed to be …
Good series. Read all three books to see what happens to Amy.
This book had you rooting for the main character, and making you wish you could be there to help her along her journey. Wonderful read.
What a great book.
Very depressing! Kept waiting for something good to happen – a real downer!
Could not put it down
Loved this book.. and I’m reading the second in the series now, which is just as good. Great characters, interesting story, well written.
I wanted to finish the book hoping things would turn out good for the main character, but found the story depressing.
I started reading this book and was totally absorbed in the story of a young woman and the life she was forced to live after a relative took advantage of her innocence. I was so hooked that I had to read all 4 books in the series. It has been several years since I read this book and I want to read the series again. It is a very sad story but …
It is a very depressing story
Really enjoyed this book. Now reading #3 in the series. Each as good as the previous book.
Will be reading the other books in the series to find out the rest of the story.
A great read – can’t wait for the ne t book!
It was a realistic story of those particular times.
Well written tale of young romance with believable family interactions. Excellent read.
This is one new-to-me author that I was quite thrilled to discover. Her stories and characters’ lives made me feel as if I had traveled through time and place to New Zealand. Although there are so many births taking place in this series that it gets a bit overwhelming, this actually gives you a truer idea of what many women faced in those times. …
There was so much tragedy in this girl’s life that it seemed almost unbearable. One wants to find some personal growth or redemption somewhere in her life, but there is only more and more misery. We really don’t even see her gaining strength through her trials or learning anything from them, she just seems to be a victim over and over with no end …
