My name is Nora Black, and I’m fifty-one-years young. At least that’s what I tell myself, when I’m not having hot flashes, my knees don’t hurt, and I can find my reading glasses.I’m also the proud owner of a salon called Scents & Scentsability in the small resort town of Garden Cove, where I make a cozy living selling handmade bath and beauty products. All in all, my life is pretty good. … pretty good. Except for one little glitch… Since my recent hysterectomy, where I died on the operating table, I’ve been experiencing what some might call paranormal activity.
No, I don’t see dead people, but quite suddenly I’m triggered by scents that, in their wake, leave behind these vividly intense memories. Sometimes they’re unfocused and hazy, but there’s no doubt, they are very, very real. Know what else? They’re not my memories. It seems I’ve lost a uterus and gained a psychic gift.
When my best friend’s abusive boyfriend ends up dead after a fire, and she becomes the prime suspect, I end up a babysitter to her two teenagers while she’s locked up in the clink. Add to that the handsome detective determined to stand in my way, my super sniffer’s newly acquired abilities and a rash of memories connected to the real criminal, and I find myself in a race to catch a killer before my best friend is tried for murder.

Very simple sensible book that makes for an easy read
Easy to read. I read it in few hours. Nora’s smell-o-vision; acquired after-death hysterectomy operation is sometimes weak, hazy and psychic.
Can Nora use this gift to sniff out the bad guy in time to save her best friend from being tried for murder?
Best friends rule!!!
I enjoyed the book and the background premise of midlife mania. Well written but the follow up book is over priced.
I enjoyed the characters in this book and how they interacted, especially Nora and Ezra. Nora has so much going on in her life (like many of us do) and does her best to handle things with her two best friends. Nora’s new ability to scent and see things from the past was crucial to her finding a killer before Gilly is brought on trial for the murder of her ex-boyfriend. Nora and Ezra’s (or Detective Hottie) attraction to each other is sizzling although the age difference makes Nora a little concerned at first but thankfully she overcame that.
I did enjoy reading but not as good as I had hoped. I would read another in this serials to see if it gets better.
I think both fans of paranormal women’s fiction and paranormal cozy mysteries will enjoy this!
A great start to a new series.
A relatable, older woman.
Interesting friends and co-workers.
The love interest is sweet, but a bit rushed, IMHBAO.
Interesting talent.
Good for the police to give her a chance to help.
What a slime ball the boyfriend was!
This was such a great story! The entire story opens up and makes you a bystander to the events as they happen. This is a relatable story, minus the scent ability, the situations in this story are things almost everyone has been through (or has seen)! This was a phenomenal read and I can’t wait to read the next! Thank you for the opportunity to review this gem!
4 out of 5 stars
Nora is living the simple life running a successful salon in the sleepy town of Garden Cove . She has her best friend and a special gift that she got while she was in for a hysterectomy . When her best friend is accused of murder of her abusive boyfriend it will take everything Nora has to help her out and catch the killer before he strikes again .
Nora is the type of woman who knows what she wants and how to get it . She is fifty one years old and is feisty and she will fight for her friends . The characters in this story are well written and you care for all of them . They are a hoot to read and you will love them
This is a story that will have you hooting and hollering all the way through the book. The characters are well written and you will fall in love with them . The paranormal power is quirky and I have never read about what she can do . The story will have you laughing all night long . The author starts out really well when she is setting up the story but there are spots that it just felt like every other cozy mystery and all about solving the murder . Over all i really enjoyed this book and laughing hard through most of it . So if you want a good book for by the pool check it out
Boy, can I relate to Nora! In her fifties, hot flashes and a hysterectomy; yup! It’s me! This book was funny, touching, brought tears to my eyes and made me laugh and smile. I just plain loved it!
I truly love this story and the fact that the heroine is over 50! Nora is a quirky ol lady who isn’t afraid to stand up for a good friend. You feel empathy for her losing her mom and then starting her life over a second time. I love the shop she tends and how it blends in with her new found ability. Pippa sounds like she’d be an awesome friend to have and Gillian too. Ezra sounds hunky and am loving how he and Nora hit it off! I enjoyed how the clues kinda hit her out of nowhere and lead her to the next clue or important puzzle piece. Although now I may rethink anything smoked! LOL! I do so love the idea that the star of the show is an over 50 woman and not some young willowy thing….it is refreshing to read of Nora as a sexy older woman! It’s easy to picture yourself in Nora’s place =) I have come to enjoy the sluethy type of story (cozy mystery) even though paranormal is my first love. I very much look forward to reading more about Nora and group of friends! A great, quick read for a lazy afternoon!
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my review! Thank you Renee for a great afternoon get-away!
