Shawn McClellan was part of a fierce, tight group-a platoon of fewer than twenty United States Marines. A machine gunner deep in the Vietnam bush, Shawn fought and won battles with no names, and watched brave friends give the ultimate sacrifice. Death chased him. Rain, leeches, and malaria sapped his strength. And back home in an ungrateful country, right and wrong were decided by what was … easiest. Prayer was his last refuge, but it was hardest of all.

Makes the reader feel like they are there.
I never realized that the marines faced that kind of opposition or underwent
the rigors or hardship displayed in this story.
real true to life book
Really good Vietnam war story
informative reading
I loved this book, couldn’t put it down.
I read mostly for entertainment, so I cannot get into any book that promotes the author’s religious beliefs excessively.
Very realistic view of the Vietnam War written by someone who was there. Good read.
To the author. Thank you for your service. Great read.
The storyline in this book brought me back to the time I spent in Vietnam. The descriptions were realistic and the events portrayed were not contrived. The author obviously had “been there and done that.“
This book unlike others about the Vietnam war seems to tell it like it was from the soldier in the field, laying out the continuous demands made to the men who served and the meaning of brotherhood to these men.
Excellent read. Especially if you have similar experiences. Technically very accurate. Best book I’ve read in a while.
Obviously written by someone who had been there and experienced what he was writing about. Great Read!
Excellent story about Viet Nam
A well written book. It was an action pack story of his experiences while in Vietnam.
realistic portrayal of that fiasco called Vietnam War
Very well written story of life during the war in Viet Nam.
Normally don’t read Vietnam era stories but became intrigued with this one. I am of this era and probably was anti war at the time but This provided a realistic story of what life was like for the soldiers doing battle. I have a different appreciation now. I definitely recommend reading
Getting information from those who were there is often hard. This book gave me a better idea of the horrors our troops encountered in Nam, and the frustrations with the policies.
Probably the best account I have read of the action in VNam.
