I’m not sure how many times I’ve read this one because it’s that good. Griffin at his best with a brave cast of Marines in the Second World War. Highly recommend to historical fiction lovers.
It’s about pre-WW II Marines and the greatest generation, so those fearing “triggering” and requiring “safe spaces” should avoid it at all cost. Probably why I kind of liked it. The first in a compelling series.
Fiction based on facts from the Boxer Rebellion to Pearl Harbor. Well written and entertaining semi-history book based on characters who could have been there. If you like a fictitious Marine tale with a happy ending surrounded by facts this is the book for you.
All WEB Griffin books are 5 Star and must reads. Great cast of characters.
One of the best about the Corps
these book are great, love them all
Griffin, in his day, was absolutely superb and I read every one of his books but his son is definitely not at his level. Someone should be chosen to write more as his style made for superb reads.
Great book, great author, what was there not to like!
This is one of the best authors that I enjoy. Always entertained and keeps up
with past events.
Everything this author (and his son) is exciting with terrific characters. Stories build to a logical conclusion with room left for more books.
Fabulous story fit to the history of the time. Characters are well written. Must read for military history buffs.
Great story, lots of historical truths
Good candy. Very good candy.
Enjoyed book hated for it to end.
Very good series could not put it down when I started reading.
Great series, great book
Made me feel like I was back in pre war 2
Though fiction it was a wonderful book on the history of the Marine Corp. I could not put down the series of books that followed with the same characters.
A well told tale of the US Marines just prior to and during the initial stages of WW2. Mr. Griffin’s research is impeccable and he weaves his character’s stories around actual historic events in such a way that makes you believe that they were actually there.
I am the son of a WW ll veteran who was stationed in the same countries and the same period as were described in this book. I was amazed by how closely the book followed the events that my father shared with me. The weapons and tactics of the period were described with accuracy and many real life characters were woven seamlessly into the plot.
