This book came across as a B rated sci-fi movie with unknown actors. The dialogue was a bit cheesy at times with the arrows pointing to the obvious plot device to get certain actions to take place was pretty much there.
The beginning of the story made no sense with a tipsy Bridget “guarding” her new BFF’s marriage chamber while the couple inside got the sheets sweaty. I mean if there was any danger real guards would be posted with weapons. It did however put her in a perfect position to get kidnapped by some different bloodthirsty aliens.
Bridget was no damsel waiting to be rescued she was in the process of trying to save herself when we have none other than her BFF’s husbands brother to the rescue. Kax has been ogling Bridget from afar but alas he has a weighty secret that he cannot share as to why he can’t have this sexy human. Cue provocative body shots with lots of intense eye looks, heaving bosoms and lip licking.
Then we have the bad guys with some really and I mean really cheesy lines and over the top actions. Bridget and Kax now have to save themselves and resist their growing attraction to get her back for her upcoming nuptial to another Drexian. Of course now that they are alone they can let their guards down and do what each has secretly wanted to do with each other physically. Where we now have a case of insta-lust being called love.
A lot of this story is driven by some unnecessary angst by Kax. His big reveal took less than 30 seconds and it suddenly wasn’t the big stumbling block that the beginning parts of the story lead you to believe.
Both characters are likeable enough that you had a mild investment in them getting together. There was some humor, a bit of action, mild heat and some female bonding. I liked that we got both POV’s which is always a better sell for me with a story. There just wasn’t enough meat in this story to really push it out of the grade school script and into something with a bit more to it. It’s not the worst that I have read which is why I kept the rating at a 3 star.
