Sometimes to take a step in the right direction, you have to run away.Sarah Collier’s life has always been scripted for her, according to the expectations of her domineering, socially-connected Connecticut family. Everything always went as planned…until the unthinkable happened moments before walking down the aisle. On a whim, she does the first thing that comes to mind—she takes off on her … on her honeymoon, alone. Sarah has never acted on spontaneity, so the impromptu trip may not be what Sarah thinks it will.
The quaint and rustic harbor village of North Berwick on Scotland’s East Lothian coast is typically devoid of tourists in the winter. So when an auburn-haired stranger who wanders into his pub on a cold, Sunday evening, Bretton Keith, self-assured and flirtatious pub owner that he is, sees an opportunity to break up the monotony of another village winter.
As Bretton comes to know, he finds it increasingly difficult to uphold his credo of never becoming attached. Can he forget the mistakes of the past and learn to trust another with his heart? Will Sarah, daring to think of her life in a different way, be brave enough to risk it on a man who was so hurt by another that he swore off ever falling in love again, or will the demands of her family prove too big an obstacle to overcome?
**Most readers will consider this a sweet contemporary romance.

Sarah Collier is supposed to be getting married, and it is time, but no one has come for her. Finally she is told the groom is not coming, and she checks her phone, and she has a text. The two families are fighting over this, and no one checks on her, so she decides to run and go on the honeymoon that was already paid for and scheduled by herself. She is staying in a beautiful manor home in Scotland. Her first night she wanders into a pub, and the pub owner and singer in the band, Bretton Keith is quite taken with her. She also finds him attractive. They keep crossing paths, and start spending time together. They both confide their saddest days/moments, and have both been in bad relationships. They agree this will have no attachments/no regrets. But will they both be able to honor that? Bretton sees and understands things about Sarah that no one else ever has. He builds her up and accepts her exactly as she is. She does the same with him. There are also many other amazing characters in the book – the band mates, Donald and Alan at the pub, and Eleanor, the owner of the inn. This is a story about finding yourself, and finding love in the process. I have never read this author before, but I know I will be looking for more of her works after reading this one. I could not put it down, and read it in one sitting.
Great story about finding out who you really are and learning to stand up for yourself. Love the strength in the female character. SO refreshing that she was not backing down.
Loved this story of finding love when you least expect it. Not a billionaire in sight, but lovable and down to earth characters. This was a fantastic read!! Highly recommend.
Wow!! SEEKING SOLACE by Adrienne Dunning had me at the Very Beginning of the Book and never a Dull moment page after page. She is also a New Author for me and look forward to read more of her Writing.
It was such a Sweet Swoon-worthy Romantic page turner and devour it in ONE Sitting. I felt like I was right there with Sarah in Scotland and the banter between two characters keeps you on your toes!
DEFINITELY A MUST READ BOOK!!
The scene of the book is Scotland. I think it was a perfect setting for Sarah, not only to find herself, but to find real love. It came together almost too perfectly for her, from the locals to the school where she did her research. I found her family a little annoying, so it was fitting that she found people that she could spread her wings with. I also appreciated that Bretton was one of her biggest fans when it came to Sarah’s new experiences.
Wow, Ive read alot of books about Brides and Grooms being left on their wedding days but this is one you wont want to miss. She decides she is going on her honeymoon with out beginning married, its time to get out and try to figure out what is going on in her life and what needs to change. She goes to Scotland and this is where she finds herself as well as finding what truly is a 2nd chance for love. The author really did a great job with this book you will not be sorry.
Good story! I liked the setting and the characters in this story. Sarah and Bretton were great together and I liked their connection to each other. This was an enjoyable, quick read.
This is my first time reading this author and I am impressed. Sarah is the daughter of a controlling family. She is about to married and is given some news that makes her leave. She decides to go alone on her honeymoon to Scotland where she meets pub owner Breton.
When she walks into his pub Sarah does something to his closes off heart and Sarah never expected someone like Bretton to kickstart her.
I absolutely liked Sarah she was smart, courageous and flawed. She proved to be strong in taking her life and setting her course which is never easy. I also enjoyed the changes in Bretton and how he became invested in love again.
Amazing setting , characters and story. I received a copy of this book for my honest opinion.
Sarah is having a bad day. Her she is in her wedding dress waiting for the groom. Next she is on a plane to Scotland with no groom. Sarah walks into a bar and catches Brets eye. These are a great match. Their lifes are so different but they work. I really enjoyed this book. The author did a great job.
This was a good read. There are parts that dragged on too long.
Man! What a way for the book to start. Poor Sarah. She doesn’t seem too distraught but wants to get some time to think about life. Her “honeymoon” trip alone brings a lot to her life in this sweet, easy read! Loved the army at the bar! I felt like I was there!
A perfectly good runaway bride book filled with local Scottish character. Though the storyline was serendipitous and fairly predictable, the secondary characters and banter made the ride enjoyable. I recommend this for an easy escape read.
I always like a good runaway bride book and this is another one to add to that list. Stranded on her wedding day on a whim Sarah decides to take her honeymoon…alone. This is the story of her live on impulse and the Scottish tavern owner she meets along the way. Sweet, lighthearted and fun to read.
Sarah has been forced into an engagement but she was willing to make the sacrifice until the groom runs. Embarrassment has her fleeing to a new life of her own. Brett is just the man to make her know love for the first time and find herself again. Good read!
I think some of us can relate to Sarah’s need to do things to please everyone. She goes above and beyond to do what is expected of her until she meets bretton. Their worlds are turned upside down as they navigate this new relationship and the consequences it brings. This is my first book by Ms Dunning and I enjoyed her writing. I look forward to more.
I LOVED IT!
Sarah Collier is getting ready for her wedding day when she is given bad news. Not knowing what else to do she runs to the beautiful land of Scotland to clear her mind. She doesn’t expect to find someone who sets her heart racing and instant attraction, but Bretton Keith will not be ignored.
Bretton Keith is a pub owner and a playboy not wanting to get too deep with anyone after his past. But the moment that Sarah walks through the doors of his pub he is hooked. What is it about this stranger that makes him want to know more? Why can’t he just let it be? His heart will make a rude awakening even if he isn’t ready for it.
Seeking Solace is such a beautiful book. Its about finding yourself, accepting what is, and just being free. I couldn’t put it down and you won’t be able too either.
Runaway bride and not because of her fears. Sarah does what i would do having been left at the alter, takes her honeymoon. The love story that envelops is simply sweet. Taking chances, finding love.
This was a great fun read. Sarah was left standing at the altar and decided to go on her honeymoon in Scotland alone just to get away from the drama that is her family. She meets Bret the local tavern owner and there is an Instant connection. Sarah and Bret had both been hurt and agree to just enjoy the time together. This one is has a not so in love jilted bride, a cheating no show groom, two sets of rich interfering controlling parents, a wonderful Lady of the Manor who befriends Sarah, a handsome tavern owner who sings in his own band, his band mates and Donald and Alan who are 2 tavern regulars who are a hoot. I really enjoyed this one.
Sarah and Bret’s story was sweet and enjoyable. Sarah is left at the altar of a less-than-love-match wedding, so she decides to take her honeymoon that her ex paid for by herself. While in Scotland, she meets Bret, an intriguing man who she can’t seem to stay away from. Bret has a bit of an aversion to relationships, thanks to an ex of his own, but he and Sarah find themselves spending more time together and falling for each other. They both think that this is only a vacation fling, but when Sarah makes the choice to uproot her boring, bland life to actually live and love, they find their HEA in a sweet manner.
Loved the setting and characters!
