The complete Patternist series—the acclaimed science fiction epic of a world transformed by a secret race of telepaths and their devastating rise to power. In the late seventeenth century, two immortals meet in an African forest. Anyanwu is a healer, a three-hundred-year-old woman who uses her wisdom to help those around her. The other is Doro, a malevolent despot who has mastered the power of … the power of stealing the bodies of others when his wears out. Together they will change the world. Over the next three centuries, Doro mounts a colossal selective breeding project, attempting to create a master race of telepaths. He succeeds beyond his wildest dreams, splitting the human race down the middle and establishing a new world order dominated by the most manipulative minds on Earth. In these four novels, award-winning author Octavia E. Butler tells the classic story that began her legendary career: a mythic tale of the transformation of civilization. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Octavia E. Butler including rare images from the author’s estate.

I’ve loved these books for over 20 years. Wonderfully well written, unique world building, and excellent plotting. The characters come alive and are fully human both likable and flawed as people always are.
Octavia Butler never fails to make you think
Haunting and thought-provoking series. Each book could stand on its own. Butler’s worlds are immersive, disturbing and timely.
I have enjoyed all of Octavia Butlers books. Great character building. Thoughtful story concept.
This is a wonderful series – so original,
This is the best series in every way that I’ve read in years. I had read Patternmaster maybe 40 years ago, but somehow has missed the prequels. What a treat to find them all together and conclude with the story that had fascinated me so long ago. Warning, I spent most of a three day weekend reading the series, it is hard to put these books down and when I finished I wanted to read more substantial, meaningful stories out of this world.
Best science fiction books I have read other than the Xenogenesis Trillogy. I could not put these books down.
This is a great series. I’m so glad I bought the complete set together so that I could continue reading until I finished the series. Octavia Butler’s characters are always well developed, and interesting, and her story lines are pretty original. You can’t stop reading until you finish all of these books.
great original page turner. Will keep you wanting more
Octavia Butler is one of my all time favorite authors. Many strong female characters that behave according to Butler’s time. Treatment of sex and power struggles are old-fashioned, but struggling to grow…typical of the time the books were written.
The reality she creates becomes real to the reader easily.
Definitely Sc-Fi fantasy with literary leanings.
I checked these books out at the library for my Kindle. I really could not put these books down. This is a fabulous series of human/alien contact.
This was long (there are 4 books) but quite interesting tale of engineered humans, bred by a rather dreadful “man” to have superpowers. I especially liked the powerful African woman, who had developed super powers without any outside intervention.
Excellent plot and well written characters. Well worth the time.
Outstanding clarity of characters, clear crisp scenery and an uncanny ability to draw the reader into their world. Glad I didn’t miss this one.
The farther I got into this series, the harder it was to continue. I finally gave up in the middle of the 3rd book. I kept coming up with better ways for the characters to behave than they did in the stories, and never did connect with any of them.
Almost sneaky in the way it drew me in. Lots of exposition, but it is very effective exposition. Highly imaginative. Distinctive characters, to say the least. Currently reading a sequel.
Vampires, zombies, and necromancers, oh my. Enjoy.
I binge-read all four volumes. Highly recommended!
She is one of the most amazing Nebula award winners and the first Black woman to receive the award
Thought provoking adventure
