“A gripping and atmospheric contemporary thriller.” –Kirkus Reviews “Complex, captivating, and gorgeously written.” –Karen M. McManus, New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying We Were Liars meets Goodbye Days in this thrilling debut novel that sweeps readers away as they try to solve the mystery of what happened then to make Ellory so broken now. It’s hard to find the truth … then to make Ellory so broken now.
It’s hard to find the truth beneath the lies you tell yourself.
Then: They were four–Bex, Jenni, Ellory, Ret. (Venus. Earth. Moon. Sun.) Electric, headstrong young women; Ellory’s whole solar system.
Now: Ellory is alone, her once inseparable group of friends torn apart by secrets, deception, and a shocking incident that changed their lives forever.
Then: Lazy summer days. A party. A beautiful boy. Ellory met Matthias and fell into the beginning of a spectacular, bright love.
Now: Ellory returns to Pine Brook to navigate senior year after a two-month suspension and summer away–no boyfriend, no friends. No going back. Tormented by some and sought out by others, troubled by a mysterious note-writer who won’t let Ellory forget, and consumed by guilt over her not entirely innocent role in everything and everyone she’s lost, Ellory finds that even in the present, the past is everywhere.
The path forward isn’t a straight line. And moving on will mean sorting the truth from the lies–the lies Ellory has been telling herself.

Not many books surprise me anymore but this one gut punched me in the best way possible. Not only is this a page-turner, but it’s also a beautifully weaved story on love, trust, and friendship, that’s both relatable and heartfelt. A stunning debut!
A gritty look at complicated friendships, sure to keep the reader guessing to the end.
Subtle and aching, with writing that crackles off the page — See All the Stars perfectly captures the aftershock of first love, betrayal, and loss.
Kit Frick combines the hand of a consummate storyteller with the heart of a master poet to craft an intriguing, suspenseful, and compelling story of love, lies, and complicated friendship.
Full of heart and hard truths, See All the Stars is a vivid, vibrant unraveling of friendship, loss, guilt, and betrayal.
Complex, captivating, and gorgeously written, this suspenseful story of the lines that blur between friendship, love, and self-discovery demands to be read in one sitting.
I thought this book was very addicting. The way it was written (the back and forth of before and current time) made you want to finish it very quickly so you could find out what was going on. I felt like the main characters’, Ret, Ellory, Bex, and Jenni, friendship was very realistic and everyone either was in a group like that or knew groups like that. I thought the portrayal of manipulation was also spot on. This book was easy to get lost in and feel like you were right back in high school. It was a very interesting read and I would definitely read more books from this author.
I was provided an advance e-galley from the publisher, Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing, through Netgalley.
When I read that See All the Stars was compared to We Were Liars, I was very intrigued. However, I almost skipped over this one because of my growing tbr list, but I decided to just read the first few pages and see what I thought. I’m so glad I did. I couldn’t read this one fast enough. And while it is comparable to We Were Liars, it is also quite different with more predictability. Overall, a great debut!
Before Ret, I was basically invisible.
With Ret, I was somebody.
Lets meet the characters:
Ellory- She is our main character. The artist. The shy, kind and easily influenced one.
Ret- The leader, the it-girl, the girl everyone wants to be. You get it.
Jenny- the wannabe, poser of sorts, snob, suck-up
Bex- The mediator, problem solver, peacemaker.
This novel had so much depth and beauty in every chapter. Now being an adult this novel makes you go back in time and think of the raw beauty of childhood and what mistakes will be made and how it will shape your future. My mind is still in a jumble of what I just read that I’m not sure how to put it into words. My favorite read so far.
See All the Stars is told through Ellory’s perspective. We follow her and her best friends through high school years, going from two timelines ‘NOW and ‘THEN’ eventually colliding into the epically tragic finale of finding out what really happens, which is referred to as ‘the fall’ I had my guess on what was going to happen and of course I was right but the author through in a HUGE mind blowing twist that left me utterly speechless.
Overall I loved this novel more you can imagine. I was hesitant to read this because it is a YA novel but this wont disappoint.
