Good story.
What happens when a sassy southern girl from America takes her wards to Scotland due to the death of s distant relative. Nothing that she would have expected. It was fun and interesting to see her acclimate to the environment, the sexy highlander she nurses after a carriage mishap and trying to figure out who to trust. I received a complimentary audio and this review is voluntary.
This book has a couple good twists that I didn’t see coming, and even though I expected one thing, Ms. Cameron threw me a curve ball and it was fun and unexpected. This author never fails to entertain me, and I always look forward to reading her books. This is a great series, not to be missed.
I listened to the book on Audible.
Excitement, suspense and romance is the best combination for a story and Suductive Surrender does not miss!!
Twists and turns make for surprises!
David McCallion does not miss as the narrator! it must be hard to change from Southern accent to Scottish accent but he doesn’t miss a beat changing between the two. He brings the story to life and adds depth to the characters!
Loved this book.
Worthy 4 1/2 Stars!
First, let me state that I received a print copy of this book as a gift from the author and I offer a voluntary and unbiased review of what I read.
There are other reviewers who have already stated eloquently their reactions to and praise of Seductive Surrender, the 6th book in Highland Heather Romancing a Scot series. I cannot state my review any better.
Collette is able to draw me into the life of her characters and their stories and capture my interest until the final page is read. In this book, I found a plausible story, humor, mystery, a reprehensible character or two, a few twists and turns, as well as several glimpses of the beauty of the Highlands. And most of all I found a great romance between the engaging main characters, Dugall and Gwendolyn. Collette managed to do all that plus realistically capture the South Carolinian and Scottish brogue of the characters. Well done.
First book of Collettes I’ve read. Loved it! Refreshing! Very witty reparte! Gwendolyn McClintock, an American from the Deep South. Moved to Scotland to help her nephew take care of his holdings. Dugal Ferguson, a Scotts rival of McClintocks, staggers into the path of the McClintocks carriage after being set upon by highwaymen. He is injured but toughs it out to get to the McClintocks holdings. Gwendolyn is set upon several times trying to hurt her so they could get the McClintocks holdings to themselves. After much mystery and confusion the least thought of person is found guilty. It’s a great love story. I would read it again.
I received an ARC of this book for a honest review. Once again Collette has brought humor to a story. This was one funny story. The southern expressions have you laughing from one end of the book to the other. Another delightful read from this author.
Danger, lies, and spies, this story kept me reading. Gwendolyn gave up everything to start a new life because of her brother. Gwendolyn was an honest woman, caring and strong, and she listened to her intuition. Dugall had a plan for himself which did not include any type of relationship. His big heart and gallantry made me fall in love with him. When it came down to it, he knew what he had to do. Another good story by Ms. Cameron. I recommend this story and the series.
I received a copy of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
Seductive Surrender is the sixth book in Collette Cameron’s Highland Heather Romancing a Scot series and it is definitely worth reading. I’ve had the privilege of reading them all and so far I love Gwendolyn and Dugall’s love story the best.
Gwendolyn is a strong and independent woman who has recently lost several members of her family and has had to move her niece, nephew, aunt and herself from America to Scotland in order for her nephew to learn and become the owner of the family estate all without much needed family support.
Dugall gets the family to their family estate, but has concerns about leaving them alone without the support that they might need adapting to their new home and working their way through the murky waters of the legal system so he offers to help.
Working closely together makes it very difficult for them to ignore their growing attraction for each other, but Gwendolyn doesn’t want Dugall to feel obligated to stay with her when a family was never in his plans.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
A Scot and a Southern Belle are a different and amazing couple! Almost killing him was a great way to meet and their interaction afterward guaranteed they weren’t going to be like most. The passion between them practically jumped off the pages. I was sucked into trying to figure out who was the would-be killer and did not see who it was coming at all and that is rare for me. Accents are done perfectly and there is a fine use of “bless your heart” in this story.
Gwendolyn is a tough as nails southern belle that has absolutely no problem saying exactly what she is thinking. She put others first at every turn and even was willing to give up her future. I loved how she never shied away from anything and was ready to battle.
Dugall instantly knew what he wanted the moment he saw her, but getting it was not going to be easy. He would do anything to help and protect her and her family. I loved him from the start and how he was always honest and didn’t hide things.
Absolutely loved the kids, the southern sayings, and Gaelic. I felt like I needed a fan when picturing Dugall talking.
Dugal Ferguson, brother to Ewan McTavish, Laird of Craiglocky and the Viscount Sethwick, wants to follow in his bother’s footsteps and become a spy for the crown. Gwendolyn McClintock has arrived in Scotland from the American South to bring her nephew, who unexpectedly inherited a Scottish title and estate. Dugal and Gwendolyn meet when the run into each other on the road to the estate. Truthfully, Gwendolyn’s wagon runs over Dugal. She insists that they help him and take him to Suttford House. Dugal agrees to stay on to help Gwendolyn and her family settle in and accustomed to dealing with a Scottish Estate. Sounds good, doesn’t it. It should be easy and he can be on his way. It would have been easy, but all is not as it seems at Suttford.
A cast of entertaining characters and a plot with excitement, danger, humor, and a few surprises make this book one of Collette Cameron’s best. Gwendolyn is strong, smart, and talented. She has been betrothed four times and has resigned herself to being a spinster aunt. Dugal is protective, dedicated, and determined to meet his goal. The children are adorable. Aunt Barbara and Kandie add Southern charm and humor to the story. The villain is quite obvious, or not. The final plot twist will truly surprise you. I enjoyed this story and look forward to more stories from Collette Cameron.
I enjoyed David McCallion’s narration of this book. His accents were well done. I laughed out loud at Aunt Barbara’s thick Southern drawl.
Collette Cameron has again woven a story rich in wit, mystery and familiar intrigue.
I found Gwendolyn, the American heroine from the south an absolute hoot! Her colloquialisms and southern witicisms kept me laughing all the way through! The humor helps to offset the sadness and tragedy of her life and knowing her past helps out to put in perspective the relationship she fears to develop with the handsome and alluring Highlander, Dugall.
Dugall’s plans for his life are waylaid when he meets Gwendolyn in an accidental way. Their path to happiness is wrought with danger and a mysterious villain along with humor and reluctance.
I’m sure you’ll find a fun read in Seductive Surrender. Definitely a 5 star book!!
Gwendolyn McClintock, a spinster with four failed betrothals, sailed from her family’s plantation in South Carolina all the way to Scotland, along with her niece Julia and nephew, Jeremiah. Jeremiah has inherited a title and will become a Scottish Lord of Parliament when he’s of age. But on their way to Suttford House, they come across an unconscious man on the road. With two children, her lady’s maid Kandie, and her elderly Aunt Barbara, Gwendolyn isn’t quite sure what to do with the man, but as he was hit by their coach’s horses, Gwendolyn opts to take him along. The man, Dugall Ferguson of Craiglocky Keep, solicitor and his brother’s steward, was robbed on his way to Edinburgh.
Dugall is glad he awakens to Gwendolyn’s pretty face, but when he learns her name, he has reservations: the McClintocks are the enemy. Meanwhile, Lloyd Hollingsworth, who studied law with Dugall, is minding Suttford House. Hollingsworth had thought he would inherit, not Jeremiah. Hollingsworth has somewhat of a reputation, so Dugall offers Gwendolyn his services as steward for a few months, until he joins the Diplomatic Corps. But it doesn’t take long before it seems that someone is trying to kill Gwendolyn…
A new book by Collette Cameron is always a treat, and in addition to lovely descriptions of Scotland, there is a touch of the America south in the plentiful additions of southern expressions. There were some interesting historical details, such as Gwendolyn having sold everything in South Carolina and feeling out of place in Europe. Some things were at the same time dreadful and amusing because of Gwendolyn’s ingenuity: when a very unpleasant – and quite unexpected – event occurs, Gwendolyn instead of falling apart concocts a very clever way of dealing with the situation. There is also the matter of Gwendolyn being a few years older than Dugall, which is seldom seen and refreshing in itself.
SEDUCTIVE SURRENDER is a multilayered story with a very complex legal matter at the heart of the mystery, as well as a lovely romance. While the attraction between Dugall and Gwendolyn was immediate, the romance progresses slowly, their relationship is built on trust and respect, and the conflicts are entirely external; neither does anything silly. And the mystery had me utterly baffled, I would never have guessed what had happened. It was a bit unusual for Ms. Cameron, whose stories are usually more focused on characters than plot-driven, but it was very well done.
This is another excellent book by Ms Cameron. It’s not just a love story. It’s an exciting mystery with plenty of suspects. The characters are well developed and the story just flows. There are also a few LOL moments to lighten up the story. The ending is rather surprising and not what I expected. Thank you, Ms Cameron, for another wonderful read. Highly recommended!
I absolutely loved this story! Collette Cameron brings her readers right in to the book & you feel like you are part of the story. Gwendolyn & Dugall (who can resist a handsome, sexy Scot in a kilt with a flirty, fun sense of humor) were such a fun couple. I loved her little witticisms & he was, well, just so darn sexy! This was a delightful Scottish romance with a great story & the humor from both Gwendolyn & Dugall had me laughing out loud! I would highly recommend this book to all romance readers, it is well written, entertaining & once you start reading you can’t put it down!
Another great book with an unusual twist. Try not to give to much away but a young woman from America sells her family home and moves her niece and nephew back to their ancestral homeland. Adventures along the way for Gwendolyn who thought to be a spinster after heartbreak not once but 4 times. Dugal Ferguson is all Highlander with his future all planned out. To follow in his brother’s footsteps as a spy. He is attacked and looks nothing like the handsome, witty man when he meets Gwedolyn on a lonely road. Thinking him a highwayman set out to rob them. I recommend this book and hope you sit back and enjoy the ride….
I received this book as an ARC.
Spicy, intriguing, funny, endearing, fun are just some of the words I would use to describe this delectable feast of Highland romance. These two literally crash headlong into love with each other. The children are the extra icing on the cake as the bring their own brand of innocent fun to the story. This like all the others in the series is top notch storytelling.
All action happens stage left. Like Greek tragedies all the action seems to take place away from the viewer. Now this happening in a play can be explained in a book especially a third person poverty book it’s a little bit more incomprehensible. I liked the Southern/Scottish mix but the author seems more enamored with colloquial vernacular than actually telling a decent story. The main characters aren’t bad but all the other characters are sketches, at best.
Enjoyed the storyline, glad Lloyd wasn’t a bad guy and all worked out for the best.
Admirable heroine: feisty but also soft-hearted. Loved the Southern idioms used. Pleasant read
