Oh, those accents! Southern mixed with Scots makes a highly entertaining story. As usual, Ms. Cameron throws in her witty humor to complete the ensemble for another magnificent tale.
4.5 stars
Gwendolyn McClintock meets Dugall Ferguson when her carriage runs him down. Injured by highwaymen, Dugall had stumbled out of the woods into the carriage’s path. Gwen insists on caring for him.
Gwen is aunt and guardian to Jeremiah, the new Laird McClintock, she has traveled from their home in South Carolina to Scotland. She has no idea what to expect in Scotland, but she is intent on seeing Jeremiah claim his birthright. She sold their plantation, packed up her niece, nephew, aunt and nanny and is anxious to see what the future holds for them.
When Dugall wakes, he is surprised to find himself bound and the fiery angel who found him on the road riding his horse! He convinces Gwen he is not a threat and offers to help her oversee the estate – until he hears back from the diplomatic corps – his lifelong dream is to be an agent for the corps and nothing, not even a gorgeous red head with a charming accent and hysterical sayings will stop him from leaving.
They arrive at the estate and Gwen immediately takes charge, she tends Dugall’s wounds and shares a kiss with him, letting it slip that she had been betrothed before – four times to be exact. As she is coming to terms with the kiss, she meets some of the other residents of the house. From Aunt Dolina, she learns that her grandparents eloped. Her grandfather was the younger brother of the previous Laird and caused quite a stir when he eloped with his brother’s intended bride.
Dugall takes her and the family to meet his brother, Laird Ewan, on the way there, someone takes a shot at Gwen. Terrified for her, Dugall insists on guards and when she learns the shooter escaped, she agrees and begins to think coming to Scotland was a mistake.
Weeks pass with no further incidents until the solicitor, Mr. Christie shows up with the will – Gwen is stunned by not only the revelations, but by the conditions. Dugall promises to look into it – but has received his acceptance to the corps and needs to leave. Gwen is a more than a little heartbroken, but she will not stand in his way. She cannot stay at Suttford House and accepts a position at Craiglocky Keep. Dugall leaves for his meeting with the corps and Gwen and the children settle in at the keep. Gwen misses Dugall and when he returns a week later, she is overjoyed to see him, until she is shot! Dugall is beside himself – his Gwenny has been shot and it makes him realize how he feels about her.
When news arrives from their investigation, it changes everything and Dugall will have to decide if he will give up his dream or keep the woman he loves.
This was a sweet, quick read with likable leads and cameos from previous characters, there is a decent mystery, entertain banter, some kisses, some shocking twists/turns and a sweet epilogue.
This is the sixth book in the series, but it could easily be read as a stand alone title with no problems.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me*
This is romantic, interesting and entertaining. Dugall is charming, chivalrous, smart and determined. Gwendolyn is independent, stubborn, kind and insecure. After her coach driver runs him over Gwendolyn brings an unconscious Dugall to her new home. When he learns who she is, he offers his assistance in dealing with the residents in her home. The attraction between them is very intense, but she has been hurt too many times to even consider falling for him, and he has always dreamed of becoming a spy, which requires him to be single. And then there’s the intrigue involving the old lords will, and wether or not her orphaned nephew is the heir. It’s a gripping storyline and the characters are fascinating.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
Ms. Cameron has once again written a book that includes humor, romance and plenty of swoon moments.
Gwendolyn is delightful. She is beautiful, wise and has a heart of gold. Dugall is handsome, charming and full of fun and wit. From the moment they meet in a most unusual way, sparks fly through the air. The first few pages had me laughing aloud and hoping for a happily ever after.
All of the characters, including the secondary ones, provided me with hours of pure enjoyment.
I was gifted a copy of this book. The choice to read and review it was all mine.
Satisfying and delightful historical mystery, suspenseful romance! Page turning goodness from beginning to end. Characters and plot are both well developed. The Southern idioms are funny, refreshing and familiar. Loved the characters from the children to the leads and including the servants. I was plumb happy with Gwenny and Dugall’s book!
Voluntarily read ARC for honest review
Gwendolyn is a true southern belle who is moving to Scotland because her nephew, Jeremiah (9), has inherited a Scottish estate. The family also includes her niece Julia (5), her Aunt Barbara and Kandie the children’s nanny. It’s been a long trip and they are looking forward to arriving at Suttford House. Not far from their destination they come across an unconscious man. They stop to help him, and his horse. When he wakens they learn he is Dugall Ferguson of Craiglocky Keep, which is not far from Suttford. His brother is Laird Ewan McTavish and Dugall is his steward and solicitor. When he learns they are going to Suttford he worries for them and decides he will stay there to make sure she is safe. He doesn’t trust Lloyd Hollingsworth, who is managing Jeremiah’s estate, as he knew him when they were in school. They settle in and discover it’s not Lloyd he needs to worry about but the solicitor, Mr. Christie.
Dugall is attracted to Gwendolyn but has plans for his life that don’t include marriage at this time. When someone shoots at her, that might change his plans. There is a lot more going on in this book and I won’t spoil it. I did like Gwen staying true to herself, as in wearing a split skirt so she could ride astride. I could hear both her drawl and his Scots accent as I read it. This may be my favorite of Collette’s books. I really enjoyed this one!
Another winner by Collette Cameron!
In her book, Seductive Surrender, this talented writer Collette Cameron offers her readers, a wonderful and delightful Scottish romance! This amazing story is the 6th adventure of her Highland Heather Romancing a Scot series. It included a well-written plot to kept my interest until the end! Fast-paced, with engaging characters, a few funny scenes along the way and a great storyline! Again, I could not put it down!

*Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this.
With four broken betrothals and no other family holding her back, Gwendolyn sells everything and travels with her aunt, her niece and nephew, and their nanny from South Carolina to Scotland when her nephew suddenly inherits a Scottish title. Unfortunately, her coachman runs down a man – who just happens to be roguishly handsome. There is instant attraction between Gwendolyn and Dugall, who agrees to help Gwendolyn reach her destination and act as her steward while he waits for his dream job to become reality. Will his plans get side-tracked by the red-headed American who seems to be attracting murderous enemies? Then there is the mystery surrounding the estate manager, the solicitor, and the will. Who will figure everything out, and will it be before someone is actually murdered?
I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging book by Collette Cameron. The storyline has intrigue, suspense, humor, and of course passion. The witty banter between Gwendolyn and Dugall had me laughing throughout the book. You will love these two characters who are truly meant for each other. The secondary characters play well in the story as does a rather smart crow!
If you like historical romance, Scottish romance, witty dialogue, and Southern charm, you will definitely love Ms. Cameron’s latest work!
I received an early review copy of the book. I was not required to write a positive review. I wrote an honest review based on my experience reading the book.
I was gifted a copy of this book. Seductive Surrender is the 6th book in Collette Cameron’s Highland Heather Romancing A Scot Series. I have read all of Cameron’s works and this one does not disappoint. In fact, I truly believe this one to be her most outstanding work yet. Southern belle Gwendolyn McClintock is escorting her nephew Jeremiah to Scotland to claim his place as the new Laird of Suttford House. On the way, she and her small group encounter a wounded Scot along the road. When her British driver panics and runs over the man, Gwendolyn feels obligated to help him. And so begins a hilarious journey for both Gwendolyn and Dugall Ferguson – the hapless victim.
I loved Gwendolyn’s southern drawl and her funny quips. Dugall is the perfect giant hero. A must read
When I first started the book I wasn’t sure I’d like that the heroine was 4 yrs older than the hero. I normally avoid scenarios with an older woman. I’m glad I continued! Dugall was the lightness that Gwendolyn needed in her life. She’s so focused on taking care of her niece/nephew that she needs a little “play” in her life. The protagonist wasn’t at ALL who I thought it was going to be and I loved that little twist. It was a wonderful story! Thank you for gifting me a copy!
1825 Scotland. Fate intervenes when American, Gwendolyn McClintock and Scottish budding spy Dugal Ferguson literally collide when her carriage almost runs him down!! Traveling with various family members, Gwendolyn, as guardian of her nephew Jeremiah, is on the way to claim his title and inheritance. Dugal, realizing her destination, is determined to go along and help safe guard her when he realizes her destination. Gwendolyn, weary of men after her four failed betrothals, is surprised at the passion that erupts between the two! Full of intrigue, suspense and of course an undeniable explosive attraction, Collette Cameron does it again. With her special mix of lovable characters and wicked humor, this story keeps you turning the pages. Of course I loved Gwendolyn being a Southern Belle since I am from Georgia and combined with a handsome Scot, it does not get any better!!
Gwendolyn must take her nephew to Scotland to become the new Laird of Suttford House. As the new heir, they had to leave South Carolina and move to the wilds of Scotland, for him to learn to be the Lord of Parliament and inherited title. On the last lag of the journey, a wounded man stumbles on to the road. Dugall Ferguson was beaten and left for dead by a group of thrives. The moment he opens his eyes and sees the beauty upon his horse, he is forever tangled into her life. I was hooked from the beginning of this story. Gwynne is a strong, protective heroine who as overcome much in her life, all for the love of her niece and nephew. She deserves the strong scot she first rescues then depends on to help her help her nephew. The story is fun and witty and throughly enjoyable. I was gifted with an ARC for my honest review.
What happens when a when an American Southern Belle, Gwendolyn McClintock meets a Highlander, Dugall Ferguson in 1825 Scotland? Let me tell you, it gets very interesting. Seductive Surrender is book 6 in the Highlander Heather Romancing A Scot series is another great by Collette Cameron. All her series can be read as a standalone. Collette’s stories are so charming and witty that I just can’t put them down! Her characters are very delightful and the descriptions are very visual. This story has so many funny one liners, it was humorous! This also has a lot of twists and turns with an ending that even I didn’t even suspect. I just love a surprise ending!! I highly recommend you read this book, Collette never seems to disappoint!

Betrothed four times. Southern belle Gwendolyn McClintock has resolutely slammed the door on romance and marriage. But the grand adventure she promised becomes a tangled muddle when her coach accidentally runs down a powerful laird’s much-too-attractive, far-too-brawny brother, Dugall Ferguson. I love it when I’m drawn into a story from the first page only to sink further the more I read, this was a lovely, captivating, engrossing read. The characters are very well fleshed & I liked both Dugall & Gwen from the start, add in two young children a large horse & a crow & I was in book heaven. This is the sixth book in the series & could very well be read on its own but as I do love the author’s books I’d read the series from the beginning to fully appreciate this five star read. As well as the story which was very well paced I loved the expressions, many of which had me chuckling, there’s also plenty of goings on that had me enthralled.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I am not sure if Ms Cameron can write a bad book. Here is another example of her lovely writing style. Although there is not as much humour as some of her books, this one still had you smiling while reading. It also had mystery, suspense and of course romance. Although I don’t really like it when the heroine is older, this worked very well as she already had 4 failed proposals. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and the fact that they were from the deep south of America. This is one book I would love to have as an audio, the mix of polished American, black American, Scottish and French, what a lovely mix. I enjoyed the little twists this story had. It was a lovely, easy read and I found it hard to put down. Although this is part of a 6 book series, it can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an ARC and was very happy to do a review.
A southern belle who has had four broken engagements Gwendolyn McClintock has sold everything and packed up her Aunt, her young niece and nephew and their nanny, to move from the America to Scotland. Her nephew has just become the Scottish Laird a title and inheritance no one saw coming. On the way to the estate, Gwenny’s coach driver runs over a large man. That man being Dugall Ferguson…the brother of Ewan McTavish (Highlander’s Hope). He was set upon and as he wondered in the road was hit by Gwenny’s coach. She helps him and brings him home. He is quite familiar with the “residents” of the estate and not trusting any of them agrees to stay on and protect the family and the estate business. Well that makes a few enemies and not the fun begins. Murder attempts, unsolved mystery, forgeries and of course a love blooming. Dugall stands firm and does indeed protect the family. Will his dream of beginning a covert agent like his brother come true or will he realize true love is a much better future? One of Collette’s Best!!!
Great read! Enjoyed the romance, and the story kept me totally involved. Kept me busy trying to figure out who the villain was. So many surprises! Did not want to put it down. I received a copy of this book from the author.
This is overall a light-hearted story with some humor, but also serious background themes threatening the happiness of our heroine. Not a weak female, Gwendolyn faces the possibility of her guardianship over her niece and nephew being called into question. She must adjust to the local customs and unexpected inhabitants of her nephew’s estate. Fortunately, she has the handsome Dugall willing to help her. An enjoyable read with some surprising twists.
I read an advance reader copy.
I really liked this story.
Seductive Surrender is a fabulous historical romance by Collette Cameron. Ms. Cameron has provided Highlander fans with a well-written book. I adore the characters in this book. Gwendolyn is taking her nephew to claim his inheritance when they find a body in the road. Dugall woke after being unconscious to find Gwendolyn riding his horse while he was in a carriage. Dugall and Gwendolyn’s story is loaded with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading Seductive Surrender and look forward to reading more from Collette Cameron in the future. This is book 6 in the Highland Heather Romancing a Scot Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
