Highly recommended! Well written.
This is the first of a three book series that makes up the entire story. We meet Daniel, Lord Tremayne and Thea, who is a widow and finds herself in a desperate situation. Both are two lost and broken souls. Daniel’s difficult past is what has shaped him and made him who he is. He has lived with a stammer and led to believe by his cruel father that it makes him less of a man. He keeps to himself mostly and remains quiet as much as possible when in public. Thea is a poor widow, and desperately needs to change her situation. She enters into an intimate alliance with Daniel, and both are overwhelmed at how attracted they are to each other. The nature of their relationship doesn’t allow for feelings, but both are breaking the rules by falling for each other. Both of these characters were realistic and likable and highly entertaining. The storyline flowed nicely and the plot had me smiling many times throughout. After reading this, you will definitely want to pick up the second installment to find out what happens next.

I enjoyed the entire book. The story is quite riveting and realistic. Daniel a marquess is a quiet man. But it is only a cover for his stammering. When the story described his childhood, it devastated me. It was painful, brutal and without love. His father loathed him. He grew up thinking all people would treat him as his father has. He still has a lot to overcome. He is looking for a new mistress. When his good friend suggests he attend a dinner party to meet a potential mistress he agrees. Dorothea is a penniless, destitute widow. She lives in squalor and her landlord is constantly making advances. Dorothea is an only child of parents who were the only children. She had no relatives nor friends to turn to. Until she met Sarah. Sarah was the mistress of Daniel’s good friend. So, she matched Dorothea and Daniel. Dorothea knew little of sex, her husband was perfunctory. But she decided between living in squalor, little food if any could be had, no employment and a landlord who was getting more brutal by the day she decided to become Daniel’s mistress. Thank goodness he liked her on sight. Dorothea did not know what to think of Daniel because he did not speak. Their first night together was confusing. Daniel had plenty of questions to ask but would not because of his stutter. Dorothea had questions but she felt she dare not ask when he told her to stay quiet. What a muddle. This story continues in book two and i am looking forward to reading it.

There are three separate books that make up the entirety of this story. This book introduces Daniel, Lord Tremayne and Thea, a penniless widow. Daniel has a severe stammer and is quiet in public as much as he is able. Daniel has a tragic past and is shaped by it. Thea finds herself a widow who doesn’t mourn her pitiful excuse of a husband. She is in a desperate situation and has to make a life altering choice. Daniel and Thea’s attraction to one another is electric. I loved Daniel’s strength, both physical and emotional. Thea’s sweetness and uncertainty was endearing. These are two broken people who find solace in one another.
They are in their heads a lot, second guessing themselves. The insecurity they show is genuine. The plot had enough humor that I caught myself smiling. I loved Cyclops, the one eyed dog! It was fast paced and character driven. The characters were entertaining and likable. The book ends with the reader wanting more. I found myself jumping into the next book. A great romance!

A lot of disconnected wit. Sensuality that doesn’t really go deep, just skims the surface. The ending somewhat disappointing. Still a quaint read.
Its a teaser. I was wanting to read the whole book, but I don’t want to pay 3 prices for the whole deal.
Only the opening to the full book. Didn’t know that. Was disappointing where it left off.
I know this book fell into the erotic romance category, but it’s more of a steamy read than anything. The FMC is a virginal-widow who is down on her luck. I suppose the premise of becoming a mistress to a stoic marquis who is desperate to hide his stuttering that caused shame to his father can be considered provocative, but in reality the story between the two is more painfully cute as each one of them suffers through their personal demons while throne to learn to open up.
It’s more of a novella, about 90 pages long and encompasses their first meeting. I’m sure all three books could have been out together for a more complete story instead of the abrupt ending.
