He crossed time on a mission to rescue his family but discovered the one woman with the power to save him.
Reikart McCaim doesn’t want to be saved—despite the fact that he’s a time traveler from 2020 New Orleans stuck in medieval Scotland. He holds his jagged secrets close to his chest and wants to keep them that way. Even if he could open up to the incredible woman fate has tossed in his path, … his path, they’d both be shredded by the things he can’t let go of. Still, he needs her help. In his time, his father lies in a coma with only one wish: to see Reikart’s mother again, whom he’s always claimed was a time traveler pulled back to her true time. Two of Reikart’s brothers already traveled back to search for her, but they are missing, too. Now, Reikart must find his family and secure the magic cross they need to return to their time. And the lass who is everything he wants but cannot allow himself to have is the only one who can recover it.
Deirdre Irvine’s life is a disaster, and it’s about to get a whole lot messier. She’s been betrayed by her brother, and she finds herself unwittingly embroiled in a plot to gain control of the Scottish throne. Not to mention she’s harboring enormous guilt over failing the sister she adores. So when the unexpected chance to prove herself to her sister arises, Deirdre will do anything to use the opportunity to her advantage. It doesn’t matter that it means putting herself in danger and joining forces with a man who claims he’s from the future. But she is woefully unprepared for the jeopardy he puts her heart in.
For a scarred man and wounded lass, their greatest obstacle may not be the centuries that divide them, but the walls they’ve erected themselves. As Deirdre’s and Reikart’s lives intertwine and they’re confronted with dangerous enemies, she’s about to discover a strength she never knew she had, and he’s about to learn that facing his ghosts may be the only way to save not only himself but the woman he now loves.
If you love sexy bad boy heroes with hearts of gold, heroines with the courage to fight for what they want, and love stories that encompass all time, then you’ll love this sweeping romance series.

Reikart McCaim is a time traveler from modern-day New Orleans searching for his missing family in turbulent medieval Scotland. But that volatility is nothing compared to the unrest within himself, pain and guilt he can’t let go of and which keeps him closed off from everyone, including his family and the lovely woman whose help he needs to see his family safely returned to their time.
Deirdre Irvine finds herself betrayed by the brother she loved and her life in shambles, all the while she is being drawn into a plot to see control of Scotland settled with the English king. She’s also overcome with guilt for how she failed her sister, so when the chance to redeem herself by recovering a magic cross, she takes it. She doesn’t mind putting herself in danger to help her sister, but she’s not prepared for the danger facing her heart from the man who’s meant to help her recover the cross.
Deirdre and Reikart are faced with dangerous enemies, but the real division between them is caused by the protective walls they’ve put up around themselves. Both must learn to face their ghosts and find their strength if they’re to survive, much less stay together.
I couldn’t put this book down! It was so emotional and Reikart’s pain was so palpable, which served to make his growth all the more satisfying. Deirdre was perfect for him and it was nice to see her come into her own and develop as a person while she gave Reikart just the challenge he needed. There was a perfect balance here between drama, romance, and light, entertaining banter that held my interest without being heavily angst-driven. It’s bittersweet to see this series nearly over but I’m excited for the final book and hoping to see everyone safely returned to New Orleans together.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Julie continues the series which draws me in with each book. Reikart is a hero that doesn’t see himself as a hero with a troubled sad past. To find love with a woman he shouldn’t want or love in Deirdre. Reading this story of two people with their own “demons” come together and find love, a story of hope and forgiveness in oneself. highly recommend this book. I received an advanced reader copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
2 brothers gone, 2 brothers left. Reikart McCaim discovered the way to time travel. In 1286 Scotland, the first person he meets is Deirdre Irvine, someone he read about in his mom’s notes. Even though this is the third book in the series, it can be read as standalone with the necessary background information included. Reikart and Deirdre are attracted to one another. They have a rocky, but beautiful story. All the characters are wonderful and well-developed. I look forward to the remaining story.
I enjoyed this book, but not as much as the first two concerning his two brothers. There was not as much “action” as in the others. Neither character was fully fleshed out. I really did not like the H as much and the h was also not real likable. I recommend it as part of the story line in these books, but was disappointed. The first two books were terrific-5 stars, this one 4 stars.
The third book in the Highlanders Through Time series a well written story that kept me turning pages. Time traveler Reikart McCaim and Deirdre Irvine’s story of two damaged people who together might be about to overcome everything. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Seductive Scot (Highlanders Through Time Book 3) by Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca
4 Stars Reikart’s story is book 3 of the timeless love stories of the gorgeous McCaim brothers. Witty banter mixed with steamy romance. In this book I personally didn’t melt with Reikart’s and Deirdre’s connection as the others and, I couldn’t settle differences in some of the characters prior reactions and personalities from the first two books. With that said, however, I did enjoyed the book and looking forward to the next book.
Happy Reading
One of my very favourite tropes is a wounded or tortured hero and the hero of this story, Reikart, is exactly that and more. You can’t help but fall in love with him and want to hold him tight. This “Highlanders Through Time” series has been absolutely amazing so far!!! Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca truly compliment each other’s work.
Reikart is one of 4 brothers who, one by one, manage to travel back in time to find their mother. When he meets Deidre, it’s instant attraction but he is not looking for love and neither is she. Both have erected walls around their hearts and it will take more than his mother’s matchmaking to overcome all the guilt each of them carry.
Very well written with lots of action and adventure, as well as danger and a slow burn passion that will curl your toes:) Definitely do recommend this book!!
We’ve met these two from the first book. I didn’t expect to like either of them too much. But how wrong I was! Reikart McCaim was a known womanizer with a hard heart. Turns out he was involved in the death of his lover, not forgiving himself, and vowing to never forget her. But when he finally figures out how to actually pronounce the Gaelic chant that will take him into the past to rescue his mother and two older brothers, he takes time, being the trained lawyer, to set his cousin up with all the legal powers and plans to take care of his father in a coma and run the shipping empire his father built. But when he succeeds, he lands in Deirdre Irvine’s arms and is immediately attracted. We all know the role Deirdre played setting up Reikart’s mom for murder and killing the King of Scotland. How quickly the authors have us pulling for them to heal each other by falling in love! They have to work together through peril and adventure to get the magic cross back from Deirdra’s betrothed if anyone is to return to NOLA. The best of this series so far!
Finding what matters most no matter what century you are in is my takeaway from Seductive Scot.
Seductive Scot is the third in the Highlanders Through Time series by Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca. Four modern day brothers end up in medieval Scotland amidst political turmoil.
This book is Reikart’s story. He travels back to medieval Scottish to find his mom and brothers. Our hero, Reikart brings a ton of baggage with him. He has been on a five-year guilt trip that impeded him from moving on and living his life. He is determined to find his missing brothers and mother and get back to his miserable life. While our heroine, Deirdre has her own angst to deal with. Deirdre, like so many women in a time were they nothing but pawns, tries to be stronger and more independent. She finds that can be a hard thing.
I liked that we got to meet more of the brother’s medieval family and the brother’s mom. Shona is a lot of fun. You can take the girl out of the thirteen century, but you can take the thirteen century out of the girl, or mom in this case. The only thing that really bothered me was how Shona’s husband was only referred as her husband or my husband. It was like he was not important enough to have a name. This was the only thing I found unsettling.
I liked the chemistry between the hero and heroine. Reihart and Deirdre’s journey is full of heart and was exciting. This is another great book in this series.
But wait, there one more book in the series! Yea!
I received a ARC for my honest opinion. I have enjoyed the novels in Highlanders Through Time series and highly recommend them. I believe every book I read should have a happy ending and if you do to, Seductive Scot is for you!
I love when an author takes a unlikable character from prior books in the series and redeems them. I become so invested in their story when that occurs. Both Reikart & Deirdre are learning to live with their choices and how they impact their lives together. There were lots of funny moments perfectly blended in the story as well. A great read!
The third book in the series brings Riekart and Deirdre’s story. This duo of authors once again deliver an entertaining time travel romance filled with danger and tons of emotions. They do a fantastic job developing the story and taking you back to the day with their detailed and vividly painted scenes. It’s an entertaining story I loved reading. I would highly recommend this book/series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Brilliant Scottish Time-Travel Romance!!
I love the premise of this series. Four brothers realize their father is not “addled” and their mother really has traveled through time. With their father in a coma, the need their mother’s voice to revive him. One by one these brothers end up going back into time and dealing with the rigors of early life in Scotland.
Reikart, this story’s focus, has kept himself separate from his family or anyone after his girlfriend was killed by a car accident where he was driving. Emotional, romantic, realistic and humorous in turn. This story captures it all!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
This book “Seductive Scot” is book three of three in the Highlanders Through Time Series. When I finished reading this, I felt that it could not end here. There were too many loose threads that were not tied up. This story focused on Reikart, the third McCaim brother. He is a tormented soul thinking himself to blame for his last girlfriend’s death. He has withdrawn from living life and has pushed people out. His brothers were the exception. They refused to be pushed out of his life. When he travels back in time to Medieval Scotland to find his mother and brothers, he crosses paths with Deidre Irvine. He was immediately intrigued by her. Then he learned she was in conspiracy with her brother to murder his mother. Yet what he felt for Deidre overcame that objection. *Now I feel there is something not right here. I cannot understand how Reikart could still feel the way he did for Deidre after finding out who she was in regard to his mother’s plight. It does not make sense to me. Any way it is revealed that Deidre was a pawn used in her brother’s machinations to murder of King Alexander and Reikart’s mother who was a witness. Apparently, Deidre had no idea what her brother was up to. Also, she had to make amends with her younger sister Maggie who she betrayed. Deidre’s character turned out to be a surprise. She was independent, lively, innocent, opinionated and had trust issues. When Reikart was given the responsibility to guard and protect Deidre he took to it like a duck to water. Reikart’s uncles did not trust Deidre because of her affiliation to her evil brother. When Reikart was reunited with his mother, it was natural that she would despise Deidre. What threw me off was when that impression was blown to bits and Reikart’s mother was more compassionate towards Deidre than we thought. The story covers the developing relationship between Reikart and Deidre. It was highly emotional and realistic what Reikart had to face. He had to face the demons of his past. One could not help but feel for him. He also had to deal with his growing affection for Deidre and she of him. Deidre did not want to compete with a ghost (Reikart’s dead girlfriend). Who could blame her? Deidre needed to prove to Reikart’s family that she could be trusted. She took on a dangerous mission. I cannot believe this is the last book in the series!!!! We don’t know what happened to Greyson and Ian the other two McCaim brothers and when their mother goes back to the future, is she successful in bringing her husband out of his coma and making him well? So many unanswered questions. This cannot be the end!!!! I want more, I need more. Hopefully the authors Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca will grace us with another book. I can’t wait to see if they do.
I devoured this book. When I saw this would be Reikart and Deidre’s story I knew it would be good and Julie did not disappoint! This is the third installment of The Highlanders Through Time series. There are four books, two each written by Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca. They are a fabulous writing team, the transition between books and continuation of character stories is seamless. The characters are strong and some a little more complicated than others. One of things things I love most about this series is that it is modern day men that have traveled to the past. The Middle Ages isn’t as easy for a modern man as we might think. The historical aspect of this series is another great piece. That coupled with the time travel really get you thinking. I’m already on pins and needles waiting for the final book in the series!
Reikart has followed his brothers back in time to try and find his mother. While there, he comes across Deirdre, one of the people that was out to harm his mother before she was whisked forward in time. He feels an instant attraction for her and feels like he can tell her things that he can’t even tell his family.
Deirdre can’t believe the mess she finds herself in. Her brother got her to participate in something she never would have willfully done. Now she must find a way to right those wrongs. When she meets Reikart, she finds a way to make everything right with his help. But the more time they spend together, she fears she will lose her heart to him.
Can these two find their way together?
I absolutely adored Reikart and Deirdre’s story!! We learn that Reikart has gone through a tragedy several years previously and this had changed his whole outlook on life. It takes him meeting Deirdre to finally open up and start to heal. I just loved these two together!! I’m so excited for the last book in the series!!!
Wowza! A thrilling ride that does not stop, filled to the hilt with everything imaginable that makes this a memorable story!
A tortured soul in the present is about to meet a similar one in the past as Julie Johnstone hurls us back into Scotland in 1823. An emotionally charged adventure that leaves no doubt in your mind that Reikert, the third McCaim brother time travels from present day to medieval Scotland. With his father in a coma, he is desperate to find his mother and brothers and the magic cross to return to the present. But he carries a heavy burden.
Deidre Irvine’s life has rapidly spun out of control. Feeling she had betrayed her sister who is missing, along with her father being named a traitor and hanging himself, she then learns her brother is dead. Now she is being used as a pawn to marry a man that has high aspirations to the crown. How will she escape and help those who are about to be murdered including her sister?
I really want to just tell you the story it was so enthralling, but that would take me a few hours! Do not miss this third book in this brilliant series by one of my favorite authors, who never fails to grab my heart and not let go until the end. Well really infinity and beyond!
I love time travel romance’s so much, and this one didn’t disappoint at all. I loved the intrigue, suspense, and chemistry. Reikart had a bit of a past to get over. Deirdre helps him without even trying. I really liked Shona, she’s an incredible woman. I totally recommend this book, I received it as an advanced reader reader and liked it so much I purchased a copy.
The Highlanders Trough Time Series takes the characters from Medieval Scotland to present day New Orleans and back again. Shona MacKinnish was accidentally sent through time from thirteenth century Scotland to late twentieth century New Orleans, where she marries and raises a family. When she suddenly disappears, her husband insists she has been drawn back through time. Five years after her disappearance her husband is gravely ill. Believing her return will help their father, her sons, using her journal and research found in their father’s study, unbelievably embark on their own time travel adventures. Will they be able to find their mother? Will they be able to find their way back to their own time?
Seductive Scot is the story of Reikart McCaim and Lady Deirdre Irvine. Reikart lands in thirteenth century in the garden of Castle Lochlavine and runs into Deirde, literally. Fortunately for Reik, Clan MacKinnish has just recaptured the castle. He is among family, including his brother Rhys. The clan is suspicious of Deirde. They believe she was part of her brother’s attempt to kill Shona. She wants to prove herself, and there might be a way for her to do so. She and Reik are about to experience more adventure than they can imagine.
Reik and Deirde both carry pain and guilt from the past. Their story is one of healing. Shona, Grace, and Maggie see that they truly need each other even though don’t want to admit it. This trio is quite entertaining matchmakers. This is a captivating story with compelling characters. There’s a bit of magic, a lot of drama and danger, and a blend of history that includes plots and betrayal. There is also a lot of humor. Tim Campbell does his usual excellent job of bringing the story to life. I thoroughly enjoyed Seductive Scot and am looking forward to the next book.
I was a little surprised that Deidre was the heroine, but when we find out how she was used by her brother, I was glad. The attraction between Reikart and Deidre was obvious from their first meeting, even though they both fought against it. Reikart’s attempt in learning to wield a sword was amusing at times. I really enjoyed this tale and look forward to the conclusion to this awesome series.
The third book in this time travel series is just as great as the others. This time Reikart travels back in time and falls right on Dierdre the woman who is believed to be a traitor. He meets up with some of his relatives shortly afterward. Deirdre is willing to prove her innocence by getting the cross back and Reikart is tasked as her protector. As Reikart gets to know Deirdre he slowly let’s go of his lost love his protectiveness of Deirdre is fierce but only if he can let himself love her they can have something glorious.
