He crossed time on a mission to rescue his family but discovered the one woman with the power to save him.
Reikart McCaim doesn’t want to be saved—despite the fact that he’s a time traveler from 2020 New Orleans stuck in medieval Scotland. He holds his jagged secrets close to his chest and wants to keep them that way. Even if he could open up to the incredible woman fate has tossed in his path, … his path, they’d both be shredded by the things he can’t let go of. Still, he needs her help. In his time, his father lies in a coma with only one wish: to see Reikart’s mother again, whom he’s always claimed was a time traveler pulled back to her true time. Two of Reikart’s brothers already traveled back to search for her, but they are missing, too. Now, Reikart must find his family and secure the magic cross they need to return to their time. And the lass who is everything he wants but cannot allow himself to have is the only one who can recover it.
Deirdre Irvine’s life is a disaster, and it’s about to get a whole lot messier. She’s been betrayed by her brother, and she finds herself unwittingly embroiled in a plot to gain control of the Scottish throne. Not to mention she’s harboring enormous guilt over failing the sister she adores. So when the unexpected chance to prove herself to her sister arises, Deirdre will do anything to use the opportunity to her advantage. It doesn’t matter that it means putting herself in danger and joining forces with a man who claims he’s from the future. But she is woefully unprepared for the jeopardy he puts her heart in.
For a scarred man and wounded lass, their greatest obstacle may not be the centuries that divide them, but the walls they’ve erected themselves. As Deirdre’s and Reikart’s lives intertwine and they’re confronted with dangerous enemies, she’s about to discover a strength she never knew she had, and he’s about to learn that facing his ghosts may be the only way to save not only himself but the woman he now loves.
If you love sexy bad boy heroes with hearts of gold, heroines with the courage to fight for what they want, and love stories that encompass all time, then you’ll love this sweeping romance series.

Reikart McCaim gave up truly living five years ago when his girlfriend Amanda died in a car accident whilst he was driving now he’s travelled back medieval Scotland. In his time, his father lies in a coma with only one wish: to see Reikart’s mother again, whom he’s always claimed was a time traveller pulled back to her true time. Two of Reikart’s brothers already traveled back to search for her, but they are missing, too. Now, Reikart must find his family and secure the magic cross they need to return to their time. This is the third book in this totally absorbing series. I just love the McCaim brothers, Reik is consumed with guilt over Amanda, Dee is also consumed with guilty over her actions, which led to the Scottish kings death together they bring out the best in each other & learn to let go. A well written, page turning read that I found very hard to put down & read in two sittings. Strong characters with depth added to my enjoyment. Shona is also proving that’s she’s a woman & a mother not to be messed with, I’d love for her story to be fully told. A lovely mix of romance, tension & humour had me captivated from cover to cover
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Riekart McCaim has watched as two of his brothers vanished infront of his eyes. They all thought their father was mad when he said their mother had not abandoned them, she had gone back to the time she came from. Thirteenth century Scotland. Obviously he was right. However he’s now in a coma and desperately needs to hear his wife’s voice. So the brothers are going to try and find her.
Can he and Ian follow them??
Deirdre Irvine is stuck in the middle of a plot between England’s King and the man she is betrothed to. She needs to escape and hope her sister will forgive her.
This story is the third in the series. You could read it on it’s own but will enjoy them all if you read the series in order. They are all full of fun and danger. There’s a lot for a modern American business man to learn before he can be a Highland warrior. Our heroine has always been told what she has to do by the men around her. That’s going to change.
Really great fun.
This is the third in the joint time travel series written by Julie Johnstone & Cecelia Mecca. I am a huge fan of the medieval Scottish stories they both write but have never really read time travel. I have to say the first two books have been great and the third does not disappoint. I was interested to find out more about our heroine Deirdre, who we meet in book one. At first she is seen as a conspirator in the death of the King but as we learn more about her we see she is a pawn who unwittingly plays a part. Her previous heartbreak and trauma shape her into the wary, scarred woman she is. Our hero is the third McCaim brother to travel back from modern day New Orleans to medieval Scotland, Reikart, is even more damaged and scarred by life than Deirdre. He carries a heavy burden of guilt & regret that has led him to distance himself from his family. When these two meet, each are determined not to allow anyone in or accept help, though as you can imagine sparks fly. As they are forced to spend time with each other, slowly they start to open up about their past traumas and begin to heal. Ultimately they find love and have hope for the future that neither of them expected or thought they deserved. I have to say this is my favorite in the series so far. I like to see seemingly unredeemable people redeem themselves and I also like even the most damaged of individuals heal and find happiness. This has been a great series and I cannot recommend it enough, it has everything a reader needs.
I never thought the dynamic duo could out do the last book, but I was wrong. Each book is better and better. There are four McCaim brothers and this is brother three, Reikart’s story. With his father in a coma in 2020 New Orleans, and Reikart in 13th century Scotland looking for his time traveling mother and two brothers, something has to give. He lands, literally in Lady Deirdre‘a path, he needs her help and she needs his. These two are instantly attracted to each other. There is something for all romance lover to love in this one. Alpha sexy, tatted up, handsome hero, strong willed heroine, bad guys aplenty, an evil cur, loving family, time travel and so much love, trusting and forgiving oneself, and serious swooning and sighing from this reader and lol funny banter. This series is EPIC, you don’t want to miss it. I could not put it down!!! I read it in a looong day. I highly recommend this book. These two ladies have done a fantastic job of writing this series!!! Well done Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca! Five stars because I can’t give it more. I was gifted this book and am voluntarily reviewing. My opinions are my own and honestly given.
This series just keeps getting better and better! This is the 3rd book in this Highlanders Through Time series, this one about Reikart and Deirdre, the 3rd brother to time travel to find out what happened to his mother and 2 brothers. Reikart is very smart, he plans well before he time travels to look for his mom and brothers, even as seriously messed up as he is from a previous relationship. LOVED his entrance into medieval Scotland and his relationship with Deirdre, who is a very strong Scottish woman, just what he needs, but of course fights it, feels he doesn’t deserve it. I think that is what I like best about Julie Johnstone, she always writes very strong women characters! I loved this book from beginning to end, had a tough time putting it down and finally at 3:00 am, I had to and finished it this morning. I cannot wait for the 4th and final book in this series! Wonderful job Julie and Cecelia!! This whole series is awesome. I am anxious to find out how it ends, but hate to see it end at the same time. Sigh . . . that means you did your job!
5 Stars – Another Page-turning Success by Julie Johnstone!
Reikart McCaim has entered the thirteenth century is search of his two brothers who had time traveled from 2020 New Orleans to 1286 Scotland before him to search for their mother. After Reik lands in Scotland and gets his bearings, he finds himself in the middle of an attack on a castle and a burly Scot attempting to kill him.
Deirdre Irvine is a lady-in-waiting to the Dowager Queen and has found herself being betrayed my her older brother when he betrays his country. Now, she finds herself betrothed to an odious baron who only wants power, riches. She must find a way to escape the baron and gets her chance when the castle is attacked and in her rush to get away, a strange man, Reikert, literally lands on top of her and before she can make sense of it, a huge Scot begins attacking the stranger.
Reik & Deirdre both have guilt in their pasts for the hurt they caused people they loved. Reikart blames himself for the death of a woman he loved because he was angry with his brother & father, driving too fast and a deer jumped in front of his car. Since the accident, four years ago, Reik had pulled into himself, avoided any close relationships, he tried to avoid his family as much as he could – he just couldn’t let go of the guilt. Deirdre’s betrayal and the guilt she feels for aiding in the forced betrothal of her sister to a horrible and older baron. She has to find a way to redeem herself and beg for her sister’s forgiveness and that redemption all surrounds the frustrating time traveler, Reikart McMaim. The guilt, the walls built, the redemption, the forgiveness – can they get past these hurdles to once again experience happiness, humor and love with one another?
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
The third in the series does not disappoint.
Reikart and Deirdre’s story is one that will make you cry when you feel how broken both of them are. neither of them want to really open up to anyone. They both feel guilty and unworthy to find love and happiness.
Following their story, I really cheered for them when they slowly find their happily ever after.
A can’t miss!
Fascinating time travel romance!
The third book in the series and the third brother to go to the thirteenth century. Reikart is carrying around guilt from years ago he believes he doesn’t deserve to be happy or enjoy any type of loving relationships. Including his family. Deirdre feels like she has done things in her past that maybe she doesn’t deserve a nice and loving husband. When the two meet although attracted to each other, neither wanted anything to do with the other. Deirdre is the sister of Reikart’s brothers wife and he promised to be responsible for her and keep her safe. Deirdre wants a little independence from having a man always in charge of her decisions.
I can’t wait to see what the next book in the series brings!

My review :
Will he be able to let go of his guilt to open his heart in time …
Funny how this book was different from the first one, when the main heroes are siblings of the first book couple.
When Maggie and Rhys were the ideal heroes, resourceful and overwhelmingly perfect, Deirdre and Reikart both live with the knowledge they failed someone dear to them.
Why they both enter their relationship with a chip on their shoulder, each relying from their past mistakes, some which came with a heavy price.
But each faces their past self-reproach a different way, when Deirdre decides to move forward and be the master of her own destiny, Reikart clings to his remorses, unable to let the past rest, dooming himself to a life of loneliness until he will be able to bury the part of his conscience reckless for being alive.
The storyline was less eventful as it was more a story of healing with plenty of meddling characters. While they introspect their own feelings, Reikart’s kin play their game at matchmaking, if only Reikart can open his heart to a new love.
Mrs Julie Johnstone did a great job at redeeming Deirdre as she was not portrayed in a flattering light in the two previous books, and while her relationship with Reikart moved quite fast, I thought his unwillingness to let his past go was dragged a bit too long and the ending resolved too quickly.
Still, it is a great addition to this series, 4.5 stars.
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Reikart McCaim has scars on his wounded heart, but Deirdre Irvine has scars, a deep-rooted fear and sense of guilt for what she had inadvertently done to the people she loved. Her guilt forces her to make decisions that she prays will give her time to undo the evil that has been done. With a battle raging, Deirdre makes her escape, crashing into Reikart as he unceremoniously makes his entry into thirteenth-century Scotland. A dramatic medieval romance, laced with treason, high adventure and suspense, this novel has a little less history and more romance than the previous books in this series, but it is still very well written and kept me so enthralled that I was very disappointed when it came to a close. Although this novel is a standalone and comes to a successful conclusion, it does help to have read the previous books in this series as each follows on from the previous story. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review. n
