Seduce Me at Sunrise, the second book in the Hathaways series by beloved author Lisa Kleypas. Kev Merripen has longed for the beautiful, well-bred Winnifred Hathaway ever since her family rescued him from the brink of death when he was just a boy. So Kev refuses to submit to temptation…and before long Win is torn from him by a devastating twist of fate.
Then, Win returns to England…only to find that Kev has hardened into a man who will deny love at all costs. Meantime, an attractive, seductive suitor has set his sights on Win. It’s now or never for Kev to make his move. But first, he must confront a dangerous secret about his destiny–or risk losing the only woman he has lived for.

I enjoy each couple the book is about, but let me be truthful – I come back for the Hathaway family fun and shenanigans. I adore this loud brash unorthodox group of people who are connected both by bonds of blood and friendship. Crazy adorable bunch of misfits that each get a chance to shine.
So, Win and Kev Merripen. I really liked Kev as a boy and adolescent. Those moments when he started feeling close to the family were so precious. I got to know him and his history but also how the Hathaway children became the adults they were today. Merripen of today, all grown up and broody, mostly appealed to me except when he was stubborn as a mountain goat and did asinine things. Well, despite my irritation he redeemed himself in the end. Win has blossomed into a lovely young lady but sometimes lacked shrewdness I expected her to have. But in the end she acquitted herself admirably by being a small force of nature.
The ending was so sweet and just adorable. I felt immense satisfaction after reading the last page and jumped right into Poppy’s story.
I wish I could give this more than 5 stars
I just discovered this author and her novels in 2020. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I absolutely love all her books. I have not been disappointed yet. I loved Kev and Win’s story. It was heartfelt and romantic. They come from two entirely different worlds yet their love prevails. The characters are complicated and lovable. The plot was interesting and fast paced. There were twists and turns and very passionate. A great read, can’t wait to read the next in the series!
While I was reading Mine Till Midnight, I knew I was going to love Seduce Me at Sunrise! I’m such a sucker for puppy love that grows even more intense over time. Something about the innocent young love, the longing, the suffering, the sacrifices, the little caring gestures,… that makes it such a powerful love story . This book took my breath away, everything about Winnifred and Merripen’s love journey since their childhood was so beautiful and heart-wrenching …
Merripen became a part of the Hathaway family after being rescued and nurtured back to life as a boy. His identity had been a mystery to everyone, even to himself. His loyalty to the Hathaways was more than just to repay their favor, but rather to be able to stay close to Win, his love at first sight. I love how he took great care of her and attuned to her every needs, all small little things he’d done for her were just melting my heart . Yet, he kept denying himself of her love, no matter how much every else in the family was trying to convince him and make him come to his senses. He had a severe case of “I’m-not-good-enough-for-you” syndrome that at some point I got frustrated with his emotional constipation . But Win was not one to give him up easily …
As a peacemaker in the family, Win was alway composed herself. After surviving scarlet fever, she became frail and fragile. But her spirit and her inner strength never altered, especially her love for Merripen, who risked his life to care for her during her sickness. Her desire for a normal healthy life with Merripen made her more determined to take a trip to Paris to improve on her health, even though that meant she would be away from her family, from Marripen, for a couple years. Upon her return, she set out a goal to convince Merripen to give their love a chance. I admire her surprising strength, her determination and stubbornness, and I couldn’t think of a better or more deserving man for her than Merripen .
I went on an emotional roller coaster with this book, I laughed at the interaction between Merripen and Cam or Leo, I cried for his struggles and his painful past, I swooned with everything he did for Win, then I got thrown for a loop with a surprising ending. All in all, I just didn’t want the book to end and I’m in love with this family of misfits even more . This is easily one of my most favorite Lisa Kleypas books !
5-AMAZING- read for me!
The Hathaways are quirky, crazy, dysfunctional family whose misadventures can make you laugh out loud while their love for one another will warm your heart.
I adored this! I loved Kev and Win’s story, all the emotion and drama, and the wonderful world that the author created. I had a really hard time putting it down!
There is so much to love about the Hathaway series. The characters are thoughtful and lovable. There’s wit and charm and amazing steamy scenes. Each Hathaway is unique and you can see them develop throughout the series. I recommend this series every chance I get.
Fabulous!
Always enjoy her stories!
OMG I loved Kev and Win’s book!!!! I loved everything about their story. Going into this book I knew it was going to be angsty and it was. But it wasn’t so angsty that it was torture to read. The push/pull of Kev and Win’s relationship was emotional and gripping and made it all the more sweet when they got together. I can see now just from reading two books that Lisa Kleypas is an amazing writer. I am now a devoted fan-girl . She has completely captivated me with this charming, quirky family.
Kev had a rough start in life. Abused and used for the human version of a fight dog as a child. Kev was never shown love or kindness. Rough around the edges he loved Win with a passion bordering on obsession. He would do anything for her but be with her. He was afraid he wasn’t good for her. That he would hurt her. That he wouldn’t be able to give her a good life. So he tortured them both by fighting their relationship. So much so that he almost lost her to another man. Kev was surly, hard working, and loyal. Though he had been with the Hathaways since he was left for dead as a child he still held himself apart from them. He loved all the Hathaways, but he was a loner and didn’t feel like a part of the family. He had a vulnerable side that when shown melted me and had me forgiving all his stupid moments. I loved Kev!
Win was amazing. I was worried going into this book that she would be a doormat character. Boy I couldn’t have been more wrong. She had pride, integrity, and passion. She went for what she wanted. Spoke her feelings with a sweet honesty but she didn’t let Kev break her. When he told her they couldn’t be together she didn’t fall to pieces. She told him, fine your loss I will live my life to the fullest. I really loved that about her. She didn’t just beg after him she was going to move on. She was a fighter. She had been deathly ill and for years thought she would never have a life so even though she loved Kev she was not going to give up her second chance at life. She wasn’t sassy but she had a quiet peace and strength that wasn’t in your face but still stood out. One of my favorite heroines to date!!
What I really loved about this book was that though it was about Kev, Win and their beautifully intense love story it was also about the whole Hathaway gang. I loved getting more Cam and Amelia. And OMG their baby news! I liked getting to see Poppy, and Bea out in society. What I really loved was Kev, Cam and Leo’s brother bonding. Leo has really come a long way since the first book. He was really turning his life around in this book. I loved the bickering between Leo and the governess Miss Marks. I really can’t wait to get Miss Marks back story. I was losing it when my poor Cam was poisoned and almost died! My favorite part of the book was when Kev kidnaps Win as part of the Roma courting and takes her away to ravish her. Talk about hot! The ending Wow it was so damn sweet. I was melting all over the epilogue. It was beautiful!!!
Kev Merripen has loved Winnifred Hathaway for years, since her father rescued him after he was left for dead as a boy. But Kev’s Roma heritage means he is unsure of his exact origins, and he doesn’t want to taint fragile Win with the brutality of his past. He refuses the temptation she represents for him and eventually loses her anyway when she leaves for a clinic in France in an effort to restore herself to good health.
Two years later Win returns to England to find many changes wrought in Kev, most of all the hardened lack of emotion he presents. In her time away, Win’s health has improved, and she has acquired another attractive suitor. Kev must make a move or consign himself to a lifetime of misery and loneliness. But if he hopes to make a future with Win, Kev first has to face his own demons and the truth about who he really is.
I appreciated this book more on this audio reread than I did when I read it the first time. I didn’t necessarily agree with all of the revisions that have been made to this newer version, but some I did like, and I don’t think the story itself was damaged as I’d feared it would be. Kev’s consistent insistence that he wasn’t good enough for Win was still frustrating, but it was more heart-wrenchingly emotional for me this time around. I still loved Win’s quiet determination and refusal to settle for less than what she deserved with Kev, even when he was so hot and cold with her. I liked the development we saw in Kev as he learned his own worth and began to really believe in it, as well as his budding closeness with Cam. This one is heavier on the angst than I usually like, but it worked here when combined with all the pining. Kev still needed a good smack several times throughout the book, but Win’s newly developed backbone was more than a match for it. I do also wish we’d gotten more info on the villain’s motives. Otherwise, I actually enjoyed this story more the second time around and the Hathaways remain one of my favorite fictional families.
