Risking it all—again. Now his past is threatening both of them.Deputy Tanner Dempsey paid a high price for an undercover op gone wrong. Nobody understands a dangerous past better than Bree Daniels. Together they have to take on those real-life demons in order to stay alive. Keeping one step ahead of ruthless killers is their only option and risk is their constant companion.
This is the second part of Bree and Tanner’s story, and it’s a doozy! Angsty, dramatic and emotional, it’s an intense read. This time, Tanner is in trouble. Dead bodies are piling up and he looks like the killer. Bree and Tanner work together to find the real killer. Bree sure has come a long way. I liked how she told Tanner that she’s not fragile so that he wouldn’t keep hiding things from her. She further proved her strength when she used her incredible computer skills to help him out. Bree is so cute. She takes everything so seriously and researches it to the extreme. Even sex.
This was an amazing mystery with so many twists in the story that I never knew what was going to happen next and certainly never guessed who the killer was.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. When I see 5-star reviews where the reader has received a free copy, I wonder whether it really is that good or if the reader just feels they should give it a high rating. But, I have to say, this book is definitely a 5-star read. Romantic suspense fans will love it.
Once again, Ms Crouch brings these characters to life and in living color! This time around we find our newly minted couple, police captain Tanner Dempsey and former computer hacker Bree Daniels, in a race to find a killer – one with a serious grudge and looking to frame Tanner for perceived past mistakes. We get to see Tanner and Bree grow as a couple and a team, as well as being immersed in some great suspense and action. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
4.5 stars
Bree and Tanner are back again! Picking up about three months after the events in Calculated Risk, Tanner finds himself in the middle of a multiple murder investigation-and it’s not looking good since he’s considered the criminal.
Again, Crouch has the RS aspect down pat in this fast-paced second entry to Bree and Tanner’s adventures! From friends and foes to a few surprises, I was definitely kept on my toes! The romance is once again, mostly closed doors. Along with a few steamy kisses, they do make progress on the emotional front.
I am curious to see what happens next since this is to be a four book set when it’s all said and done. The books could potentially be read separately, but the nuances between Bree and Tanner make more sense when read in order.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book will keep you on your toes; it is full of twists and turns up until the very end. I love when I can grab a book, dive in and enjoy constant surprises throughout the story. Even the revealing of the bad guy (s) was a shock. I never saw that coming!
Bree and Tanner first meet in Calculated Risk, the first book of the series, where Bree is on the run and in hiding and ends up in Tanner’s quaint, sleepy little town and is caught by him shoplifting baby items. He is drawn to her from the start and gets more than he bargains for when her dangerous past follows her to town.
Security Risk picks up a few months after the ending in the first book with Bree settling into town and she and Tanner starting to build their relationship. When Tanner’s past catches up to them, they are once again thrust into peril as they try to figure out the killer’s game before it is too late.
This is a fast-paced, engaging read that will literally grab you from the first page with the intense opening scene. Emotions run higher, bonds deepen and romance blooms as Bree and Tanner fight for each other and their lives in the second installment of the series. It was an amazing read and I cannot wait for the next. This series is one for the bookshelf, for sure!
*I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
I’m running out of words to describe how great a writer Janie Crouch is. This book is another great one. Bree and Tanner are great together. I cried reading this book because of some of the stuff they were going through. It’s another winner for Janie Crouch. And I can’t wait to read the last 2 books in the series.
Security Risk was another fast and furious installment for Bree and Tanner! Tanner is being hunted and he doesn’t even know it. He’s just trying to protect Risk Peak and make a life with Bree when his past comes back to haunt him, again. His PTSD is ugly, but the dead body in Bree’s backyard is uglier. Under the microscope, Tanner has to rely on Bree to figure out who is behind the murders and making it look like him.
As always, Janie Crouch writes a fast-paced, tight, page-turning tale that stresses you out but also you don’t want it to end. If you love intrigue, suspense, and a good murder investigation with lots of action, you definitely want to check out Security Risk!
Following on from book 1, Tanner and Bree find themselves, smack- bang, in the middle of another round of trouble…
This story had so many twists and turns. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Not having a clue what was going to happen next. So exciting!
Dying to dive into book 3. I’m hooked on this series
3.75 stars-SECURITY RISK is the second instalment in Janie Crouch’s contemporary, adult BREE AND TANNER THRILLER romantic, suspense series focusing on computer hacker Bree Daniels, and Deputy Tanner Dempsey. SECURITY RISK can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from three first person points of view including Bree and Tanner SECURITY RISK begins three months after book one Calculated Risk but three years after Deputy Tanner Dempsey’s life imploded. Following an undercover op that went all wrong, Tanner struggles with what happened and the men that were lost. Fast forward to present day wherein someone is stalking our story line hero, someone who is framing Tanner for sins of the past. What ensues is the ongoing relationship between Tanner and Bree, and the potential fall-out as a number of people are caught up in a game aimed at taking Deputy Tanner Dempsey down.
Bree Daniels struggled with her place in Tanner’s life but Tanner Dempsey is willing to take things slow in an effort to allow Bree to settle into a new ‘normal’ routine. A computer hacker genius, Bree finds herself working at the local diner in an effort to keep things going at an even pace. Tanner Dempsey has no idea who is targeting him but a number of bodies, all with connections to our story line hero, aren’t making things any easier as Tanner struggles to prove his innocence.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and dynamic secondary and supporting characters including Tanner’s brother former special forces soldier Noah, their sister Cassandra and Cassandra’s husband Graham; their mother; owners of the Sunset diner Cheryl and Dan Andrews; sheriff’s deputy Ronnie Kitchens; sheriff Duggan; attorney Ryan Fletcher; inmate Darin, and his brother Glen Carrico; police department psychiatrist Dr.Michalski.
SECURITY RISK is a story of family, friendship, vengeance and grief; a story of murder and betrayal; of love and moving towards a happily ever after. The premise is intriguing and suspenseful; the romance is passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text; the characters are energetic and strong.
I am a huge fan of continuity series; I want to binge read them one right after the other. I am loving Janie Crouch’s new one for Harlequin. Tanner and Bree are a slow build romance with lots of action to keep things moving. I can’t wait for the next installment.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
This is book 2 in The Risk Series and we are back with Bree and Tanner. Tanner is being framed for multiple murders. As he and Bree try to figure it out, the body count is rising. This is an amazing suspenseful romance. The many twists and turns sometimes leave you with your mouth hanging open. Just when you thought you had it all figured out…PLOT TWIST! This is a crazy awesome ride!
The story line was filled with just enough cat and mouse games to keep you sitting on the edge of your seat through it all. The adventure was great and the characters were diverse. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Bree and Tanner.
The plot was well-written. The story kept my attention and had me trying to figure out the villain. Bree and Tanner are great together, they are definitely a team
Awesome contemporary, romantic mystery, suspense. The characters and storyline are fantastic. This is the type of story that keeps the reader rapidly turning pages to see what’s next. Ms. Crouch writes thrillers that keep you captivated from beginning till the very end. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Crouch.
I loved the story. Bree and Tanner are living their lives, Bree is working to improve her social skills and Tanner is working through his issues from a mission gone bad. And then bodies show up and Bree and Tanner are again trying to fight to stay together. Loved the suspense of this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. It’s the second adventure of Bree and Tanner that almost leads to both their end… Janie has a very good writing hand for building a suspensul, thrilling background that almost is your end due to lack of sleep as you need but have to finish the book. There are some bodies within the story but it wouldn’t be a Peak Risk novel If there weren’t. So, an absolutely stunning and great story with lots of twists you never new were coming.
The thrills and danger in Bree and Tanner’s lives continue as they continue getting to know each other and build a life together. The second book in the series also sheds more light on Tanner’s life before he met Bree. Bree is slowly but surely coming into her own personality and discovering her own strengths.
I can’t get enough of these two, Tanner and Bree as they once again find danger in their lives and now it’s all centered on Tanner and his past. The two are still together building their relationship, wanting to take it to the next level. But it’s derailed when Bree finds a dead body in her backyard and the man is tied to Tanner. When another body turns up, also tied to Tanner, he becomes a prime suspect and it will take both of them to find out who is setting him up.
An amazing read with suspense, mystery, some nail biting scenes and sparks sparks sparks between these two. Even though there are no steamy scenes, their connection is not any less and the steam is still there between them. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these two and this second book was once again a page turner from beginning to end. I LOVED how they worked together and how Tanner opens up to Bree and the clincher, near the end when there is no mistake who he wants. The twists and turns kept coming and the mystery man was a real shocker…didn’t see that coming….CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!!
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Security Risk by Janie Crouch continues the Bree and Tanner series. Book 2 picks up about 3 months later where the book 1 left off. The readers see Bree continue her work at the diner and that she has made progress in acquiring social skills. Instead of she being a target of a madman this time, it appears that it’s Tanner this time. He’s on the hot seat as bodies from one of his past cases start to pile up. Someone is determined to make Tanner look like a vigilante killer. Can Bree and Tanner figure out who the mystery person is that is determined to ruin Tanner’s life, albeit permanently? Or will they be too late?
This was another sensational story with suspenseful moments, action scenes, rollercoaster moments and sizzling chemistry between the main characters. I liked the banter between the main characters. It’s fresh and exciting. The plot is good. Not dull, but inviting and keeps you engaged. I can’t wait for book 3 in this series.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *******
Loving book 2 in this series. Bree believes herself to be broken and emotionally stunted and as you are reading, you feel her pain of trying to be social, but Tanner who adores her and her mind show her it’s OK to just be you help her realize she’s not broken, just perfect for him. I stayed up late into the night reading this. So much intrigue and romance and the ending was fantastic. Completely in love with this couple. I need the third book in this installment quickly.
This second book , though some might consider it a stand alone, it’s really more of a continuation of the first book in the series, Calculated Risk. In it we met the once child genius Bree who was running from The Organization , when she met deputy Tanner.
This time , while the relationship continues to develop and more of Tanner’s PTSD and history is divulged, Tanner is the one in danger. He’s being linked to deaths occurring around the area. Bree is determined to help him, as they go into hiding.
Will they be able to figure out who is setting Tanner up? Is it the man he put behind bars? Will they survive the danger? Will they finally have the happiness they deserve?
The plot is engaging, filled with bad guys, and heart stopping moments. The characters are well developed.
In this story there is no black and white but rather variations of gray.
Another well written story by this talented author.
I love Tanner and Bree and this book grabbed me at page one and didn’t let go! Security Risk is fast paced, action packed, romantic, full of twists and turns, and the identity of the bad guy totally surprised me! Enjoyed books one and two so much of this series and can’t wait for book three!
