Do you know that saying that you can’t truly appreciate the good without knowing the bad? Or something to that line of thought. That is Thalia’s story.
There is no sugar coating here
No alarm clock to rouse her from the nightmare
She will face her most primitive Id
Her physical strength will be challenged
Her emotional stability crushed and rebuilt
She will learn to bend to the monsters if only to prevent her from breaking
She will eventually come to a crossroads where she must choose between the evil she knows and the one who promises salvation
This is not for the weak of heart
It is raw
It is a dive into the deep end of the darkness pool
Heed the warnings
I’ll see you on the other side
I’m off to book two – I have to know
This book was intense, very intense and terrifying; I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was well-written with a fascinating cast of characters. Several scenes were so nerve-wracking that I found my heart in my throat, chest pounding. Outstanding work. Be warned, there are triggers in this book so if you can’t handle some ruff scenes with sexual and mental extremes, you should steer clear. I received an ARC and voluntarily left an honest review.
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. This is a very dark emotional book, but it will forever change you. Thalia will be put through hell, before she discovers who she really is and come out stronger. Even though the subject matter is dark and violent at times, you will become a captive audience in the story. This is my first book by this author and I will make sure to read more of her.
I really loved this dark intense story. I was left speechless at certain parts not knowing what to expect next and that was the best part .Out of all the books I have read this one is so descriptive and detailed and real it was brilliant and just WOW and your sucked right in.
Thalia was full of so much mixed emotion trying to find her place and not break and I loved her for that as the Guard sent her mixed emotions while training her and it was not pretty. I wasn’t sure how to feel exspecially when it came to the brother who was terrifying it was intense and a situation you just want to disappear from but have no choices.I voluntarily read a readers copy of this book
This is a great start to a four book series. In this book there are triggers for some so keep that in mind. You should know all books follow the same couple and their story really starts in the 2nd book. Jennifer bene is really good at bringing readers up on what happened before. So if extremely dark didn’t your thing start with two
This is my first book by Jennifer Bene outside of the Black Light Series. I have been wanting to read this book for a while but kept talking myself out of it because I was worried since this is my first dark romance. But I finally ripped off the band-aid and I am so glad I did!
Jennifer Bene does an amazing job bringing to light an issue that many people don’t think is as prominent as it is. The feelings that Thalia goes through are an accurate depiction of a dark and scary reality.
Jennifer made me feel all sorts of confused about Marcus. His actions and feelings are contradictory. I want to view him as an twatwaddle but there is a part of me that wonders if he can be redeemed.
Jennifer gives us an inticing story that keeps us guessing as to what is gonna happen next! It is a good book to start with if you are venturing into the dark world for the first time!
This was an amazing series. Logically, I should despise some one who would buy another human being, but everything about James compels the reader to love him and hope he and Thalia have a happy ending. Thalia is an incredibly strong woman and survives kidnappings and brutality without losing her ability to trust and love, and as despicable as Marcus and Anthony (especially Anthony who has no redeeming qualities and Marcus doesn’t ‘ have many) are, without their heinous actions Thalia would not have met James so I guess they do have a very limited purpose, but no tears were shed with their departure. This series has many dark elements but it also has moments of humour and tenderness. The time at Purgatory is insightful and ocassionally humorous and the short stories the author includes in the series are equally wonderful. However, be warned there are many potential triggers in these books, but if you are not affected, they are a compelling read I would recommend to anyone who likes dark romance
That was one of the most intense books I’ve read! I cannot wait to read the rest of Thalia’s story.
The will to never give up shines through
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Thalia is abducted from her work location by Marcus, the building security guard who trains her to be a submissive. Thalia fights Marcus and is punished, but eventually she submits to Marcus whom she never feels safe with. Thalia gets under Marcus’ skin so he is reluctant to let her go at the auction. James makes the winning bid, yet offers her a choice to go with him. Thalia accepts James’ life raft much to the angst of Marcus. James just asks for 6 months to see if the lifestyle is what she wants. If not, he will help her rebuild her life. The book ends on a cliffhanger though the other 2 books are available.
This is a hardcore, dark bdsm series not for the faint of heart. There’s a HFN in this first book but it is full of triggers so be forewarned. This sex is raging hot and the characters are deep and well written. The storyline is compelling and you just can’t it it down. It leaves a hell of a book hangover, but the whole series is available so you can belly on up to the second one right away. Thalia stays with you as a character and I find myself coming back to re-read the entire series over and over again.
Jennifer Bene is one dark and twisted woman. Did I mention that I love that about her? Her travels into the dark and dangerous mind of borderline psycho men who make the average woman cringe but at the same time hold her breath. She is my type of writer.
Wow, I did not want this book to end! This book is for those discerning readers of dark and BDSM romance. It contains the right mix of pain, emotion and lust. I could not put this book down and was immediately drawn into Thalia’s mind and could feel the emotions as if they were my own. Even the Master’s angst as he dealt with his own feelings were easy to connect with and understand.
I’m exhausted from reading, lol. If you love dark capture, extreme scenes and twisted beyond you wildest nightmares look no further. I absolutely loved it. This book opened me up to an entire genre I had no idea I would be captivated by. Very talented, creative story teller that has you screaming along with the characters.
Must read for fans of dark romance, highly recommended!
First book in what ended up being my all time favorite series from Ms. Bene.
It had a bit slow and predictable start, but that all changed as the story picked up and characters started to become more fleshed out. I found Thalia a bit foolish at times but still feisty and strong female character. I especially liked writing and how author managed to put emphasis on psychological aspects of what Thalia goes through.
In the end of this first part, I even managed to feel bad for Marcus. He put Thalia through hell but still ended up caring for her in his own way.
James is deliciously intriguing and will have you grabbing the next part of this series right away!
For all fans of dark who don’t mind non-con and dub-con books I highly recommend this series!
Pussnbooks.net Reviewing the darkest erotic novels we can find.
When I first started reading this book I was a little disappointed. It felt a tad too unrealistic.BUT! I stuck it out and am sooo glad I did. It got good. Fast.
I am now a huge fan of Jennifer Bene.
THALIA – She’s a sweet girl, keeps herself to herself. Has a pretty uneventful life to be honest until BAM the security guard from work (that she’s been thinking is super cute) abducts her and forces himself on her in the car park.
To make things a thousand times worse, her body reacts to the way he’s rough with her. And not in the way she expects it to.
She’s taken to a house where her “training” begins.
Shockingly it’s equal parts exciting and terrifying and Thalia doesn’t know how to react even if her body does.
Thalia has spirit though, and I love her for it!
“You haven’t accepted it yet, but you were always meant to be a slave. I know you’re not ready to hear that yet, but you need this. No other relationship would ever fulfil you like submitting will.”
GUARD – This guy has seen Thalia and immediately decided she will be his next victim. He brings her home to begin her training as a sex slave but didn’t realise that he was going to react to her the way he does. He’s done this loads of times. He and his brother have made an extremely profitable business out of it in fact. But no one has affected him this way before.
No matter though because he has to have her trained up for the auction in a few days.
Can he let her go when the time comes?
How far is he willing to go?
Of any woman he had taken and trained she was his greatest success, in twenty-four hours she had submitted, she had begged for him, called him Master. Even his brother was impressed and had called to tell him so. It’s why he’d used the remote to stop the cameras. He’d wanted a few minutes of not being observed to tell her how beautiful she was, how incredible he thought she was — but she had shunned him with three words.
SEX SCENES – The scenes are dark and sexy. Be warned there are non-con and dub-con scenes in here. The truth is, she loves being a submissive, even if she wasn’t aware of it.
FINAL THOUGHTS – I really enjoyed this book and have already started the next in the series. I need to know what’s going to happen, man!
4 Stars
OOOO!! Deliciously Dark!!
This book is Thalia’s non consensual, dark, brutal introduction to a form of submission!
Its written so well that it has an almost hypnotic effect, you don’t really want to read more but you are compelled to do so!
Brilliant start to a gritty, twisted, dominant tale!
Holy mind games.
Dark reads are my favorite. I am always struggling to find one that is the perfect juxtaposition of light and dark without seeming over the top or too extreme. This book manages to do it and with flying colors. I was uncomfortable yet I was intrigued. My heart hurt for Thalia but then it found a sense of peace for her.
Anxious to continue this journey. Looks like I found another dark author to follow.
As I start my review, I will not tell you the story. Why you ask, it’s because I want you to read it like I did. By only knowing that it is an excellent book and series. I cannot wait to finish the series. Jennifer did an excellent job in writing this book. Enjoy.
