After an unstable childhood, Zoey Knight landed in Juneau, Alaska, during high school, and has never left. Now in her early thirties, she lives a quiet life that includes part-time caretaker for a beloved father figure. Despite the stability, she occasionally wishes for more adventure. She gets more than she bargained for when a plane she’s in goes down in a remote stretch of wilderness—and the … the only other passenger is a man she’s crushed on for years.
Life as a SEAL doesn’t allow for much spare time, but Mark “Bubba” Wright still regrets not trying harder to visit his pop. Now it’s too late, and the guilt is heavy when he heads to Alaska for the reading of his father’s will. The only bright spot is finding a girl he knew in high school on the same tiny plane. The same woman, it turns out, who’s been taking care of his pop…a girl he crushed on in high school.
Struggling to survive in the Alaska back country isn’t the kind of second chance either envisioned, but relying on each other makes Zoey and Bubba’s rekindled attraction hotter than ever. Funny how puzzling out who might want them dead can bring a couple closer together…
** Securing Zoey is the 4th book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Mark ‘Bubba’ Wright’s father has died unexpectedly and he is heading home to Alaska filled with grief and guilt. At the airport he is surprised to see a woman sharing the flight with him.
It turns out he knows her, Zoey Knight had been in school with him and his twin Malcolm actually had dated her a couple of times. More than that it was Zoey who took care of his Dad, kept him company, listened to his stories, really an overall companion and friend. That kept her busy during the winter months, as her job at one of the tourist shops was part-time and only during cruise ship season.
They took off as scheduled, but then the unthinkable happens. An emergency landing on a lake, then instead of actually fixing the plane the pilot takes off again. Leaving Mark and Zoey stranded in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness.
Even though Mark is sure his team would come after him when he doesn’t call to check in, it’s a long and sometimes treacherous hike heading in a direction they hope will lead to civilization.
I loved the conversations, the way Mark keeps her warm and teaches her things for survival out there. The chemistry between these two is obvious but neither act upon it as they trek day to day overcoming obstacles.
Full of intrigue, suspense, romance, some sizzle and so much more!
I really can’t wait for the next book in this series!
4 stars Another great book by Susan Stoker. Plan to read this book again once the series is complete and can read the whole series from start to finish.
I was thrilled to have won a copy of this novel. I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Stoker’s entertaining, well written, exciting, steamy, romantic suspense novel. It has likable, engaging characters, a strong and capable female protagonist, a hot hero, and a happily ever after ending. This novel is perfect when read as a stand alone. The glimpse of the characters from the other novels in this series has piqued my interest, and I am looking forward to reading their stories.
First-Rate!! This is a great story of childhood crushes and dreams coming true. I loved the relationship between Zoey and Mark right from the beginning. They had a connection that was believable. The scenes in the Alaskan wilderness were very informative and I could almost picture it in my head. This story was exciting, sexy and intense at times. The perfect romantic suspense!!
After being left for dead in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness, Zoey & Mark must work together to stay alive until help arrives or until they rescue themselves by stumbling upon a hunter or cabin. Mark is even more than Zoey expected and she feels her crush deepening on the alpha man, but not only that – she sees beneath his hard exterior & finds someone real. Mark doesn’t know how this tiny slip of a woman has done it, but she’s somehow wormed her way behind his armor into his heart. The girl he liked from afar in high school, he now wants to see if there’s a chance at forever after their rescue. He convinces Zoey to come back with him to California and she’s overwhelmed by the love and acceptance poured out from the guys and their women. Just when everything seems to be going well, it isn’t. Will Zoey be brave enough to confront her sexy alpha male for a true shot at forever?
I LOVED Zoey & Mark’s (aka Bubba’s) story. There are plenty of twists and ‘Oh no Susan didn’t!’ moments (which I love btw). In addition to this awesome couple, we learn more about Phantom & some of the demons he’s battling and we get some insight on Rex & Avery’s relationship. All in all a great read that I highly recommend!
Zoey has always been the newcomer, even though she moved to Juneau, Alaska in the tenth grade. She went to visit her mother and the man she helped passes away while she’s gone. She has to take a private plane and the pilot informs them something is wrong. The only person besides her and the pilot is Bubba/Mark, a Navy SEAL. Bubba is going back to Juneau after leaving thirteen years ago because his father passed away, who is the man Zoey helped out. The plane lands but when they disembark, the pilot takes off and leaves them stranded in the Alaskan wilderness. Bubba knows his team will find them they just have to stay alive until they are found.
Good story but I’ll be honest not my favorite. Action, suspense, and little bit of sex. Some will adore this book but something just didn’t click for me. I would still recommend it though.
Susan Stoker is always a winner.
This is book about survival and strength, of opening one’s eyes to what is written between the lines.
Reading Zoey and Bubba’s story brought me back to the days when I used to go on long hiking trips with my friends. I loved those days, the camaraderie and fun of discovering new trails, the exhilarating feeling of being one with nature, and meeting new friends along the way.
There was one mountain I loved so much that I climbed its peak time and again. To me, reaching the summit was like entering what I fondly call the playground of the gods. A 360 degree view all around and actually walking above a sea of clouds… it was my heaven!
Imagine yourself, but an insignificant speck on a vast—and often hostile—world filled with unknown dangers, where hidden treasures can only be had if Mother Nature deems you fit to be called to her banquet.
Like Zoey and Bubba, who faced the test of survival both natural and man-made, I was able to appreciate what now is slowly slipping from my grasp, and that is nature in its purest form.
Like Bubba confronting his twin, Malcolm, I confronted the wrath of nature head on. I survived being stranded on a mountain, with Mother Nature letting loose a Category 5 storm as my team was in the middle of a five mountain trek.
I survived teammates abandoning colleagues, themselves fighting to survive. Yes, I did lose friends along the way, but I survived. I came out scarred, physically and emotionally from one particularly brutal date with nature, but in the end, I stood tall.
Securing Zoey reminds me that in the midst of the storm I am in right now, far from the arms of nature that I am strong. That I am a survivor. For this, I thank Susan Stoker, an author whose works constantly remind me that life is easier if we but learn to open our eyes to the right path.
I hope, dear reader that you get the chance to see the story through my eyes.
Read between the lines, I implore you, there may be a gem or two waiting for you.
I really enjoy Susan Stoker’s books and this book is no exception. I love the story of Zoey and Mark. I loved the setting of the book and the action and story line. Susan Stoker never disappoints.
Love love love it!!
One of the reasons I try to get behind in reading Susan Stoker’s books is that when I finish a book, I find I am now going to have to wait months (long, long months) before I get to dive back into her worlds and characters. Ever since, I stumbled onto the Mountain Mercenaries, which led to Ace Security, which led to the SEAL of Protection Series, which led to Delta Force Heroes. Get my drift? I love her worlds and characters; they are people you like and enjoy watching their lives bloom in front of you. Securing Zoey is no different. I always think her latest hero is my favorite; Mark “Bubba” Wright is no different. He is the epitome of the nice guy. In previous books, in the series, he’s always been the nice guy, and he still is. Zoey is the same, and they become a lovely couple. Some might find this annoying, but one of the characteristics of Susan’s books that I admire is that her characters are real. Not everyone is rich and living in fancy houses. These are military people on military salaries, and they live regular lives (aside from the whole going out and saving people thing that SEALs do). Bubba and Zoey find themselves in a dangerous situation, and Bubba SEALs his way through it (yes, I just used SEAL as a verb), and Zoey does her best. What caught my attention is just how dang sweet Bubba is; he encourages and praises Zoey, which in turn builds her confidence. Being thrust into a situation that you are not comfortable with no only leaves you insecure in your ability to handle things, it also drags you down in doubt. Bubba can handle both situations for Zoey just by being him.
There is an element of mystery, and there is suspense. Zoey is capable and no shrinking violet. Bubba, being alpha, is protective and almost too gentlemanly. The attraction between the characters is believable and hot. However, there is no immediate jumping into bed, but a nice slow burn build-up that pays off exceptionally well. These are not teens nor twenty-somethings, but people in their thirties who have reached a point in their life where they are ready to experience more.
I highly recommend this book as well as all of Susan’s other books and welcome you to the club of patiently (not) waiting for the next one.
Fast paced, sexy and suspenseful-I was hooked from the start. Bubba has jumped to the top of my Susan Stoker book boyfriend list. Loved how he was there for Zoey. Zoey someone I’d love to be friends with. Can’t wait for Avery and Rex’s story.
Securing Zoey is a thrilling, sexy and exciting romance with Susan Stoker’s signature feels and another hero I honestly loved and a strong heroine who is indeed incredible. This story is packed with suspense and danger a bit if wit and plenty of heart stopping romance. It’s a perfect addition to this addicting series.
Wow!! I loved Securing Zoey!! Susan Stoker has written another 5 star best seller. It has all of the right ingredients: an alpha SEAL, an independent heroine, humor, romance, intrigue, bad guys, and the rest of the SEAL team as backup. Oh and I can’t forget… in true Susan Stoker fashion, we have not one, but two cliffhangers. Nooooo!!
Another fantastic read by Susan Stoker that leads on an epic reunion and a “who did it” theme! I adored these characters and I didn’t see that end coming. I also loved getting more glimpses of Phantom and now I am anxious for the next one in the series! Well done!
Did you say Glamping!! Sorry, you will have to read the book to understand that term 🙂 I absolutely loved this books. I started reading about 5 PM and stayed up way to late finishing the book. I just couldn’t put it down. I love all Susan Stokers books but this one was just so good. It kept you on the edge of your seat never knowing which way it was going to go. You won’t regret picking up this book If I could give more starts I would. Absolutely loved it!
The Fourth in the Seal of Protection series, we get Bubba and Zoey’s story!!!
After returning home from the death of his father Mark “Bubba” Wright, is greeted by a familiar face. Zoey Knight, his crush from high school and the woman that has been looking after his father for the last decade.
Ok, first off let me state that every time another book by Ms. Susan comes out, it’s like Christmas all over again. I am a sucker for these books every time and the SOP series is truly one of my all time favorites!
The drama, the love, the character build up, the mystery of the chance, all of this rolled into a steamy romance makes for the best type of story.
Bubba is grieving for his father, but also feels so guilty for not being around more, he and Zoey lash out at each other for a time, but when they are thrust into a situation that requires them to trust each other in order to survive…
Well let’s just say they are tested. After a week in the Alaska wilderness, the pair return to their hometown for the reading of the will. This is when things get really nutty!
Get ready ladies and gents, this one is an emotional roller coaster and you WILL ugly cry!!
I truly enjoyed reading this book.
Bubba & Zoey, were on their way to
Juneau, for the reading of his father’s will.
They were both surprised to see each other again. After their float plane had engine trouble, Bubba & Zoey never expected to be left stranded in the
middle of no where in Alaska.
It’s an engaging, moving & suspenseful romance. It will draw you in, from the very beginning, & keep you reading till the end.
Another great story in the series.
A MUST READ STORY!!
I absolutely love this book and I think it is my favorite of this series. I loved the second chance romance. I just found this author last year and spent many hours listening to her backlog of books, now I up to the current books and am eagerly waiting for the next books to come out. I would absolutely recommend any of this author books who love romance along with our military.
Securing Zoey is a must-read! Sexy and suspenseful!
