For Sidney Hale, rescuing dogs is more than a hobby. It’s a calling. A deep-seated need. An unstoppable compulsion. For reasons so unsettling, she shares them with no one…until she meets Decker. After coming to her rescue while Sidney battled to save a dog—literally—the gorgeous SEAL proves he can be trusted with her secrets, her safety…maybe even her heart. Saving an abused pit bull from a … from a suspected dog fighter brings Decker “Gumby” Kincade not only the dog he’s always wanted, but the first woman in ages to catch his interest. Sidney’s reason for rescuing Hannah, and animals like her, is shocking…but it makes Gumby want her even more. Her harrowing past has made her the strong, brave, compassionate woman she is today. She could be The One…if Gumby can help curb her habit of putting herself squarely in danger’s path.
But he may be too late. Hannah’s previous owner is enraged over her loss…and looking for revenge.
** Securing Sidney is the 2nd book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
** This story examines the stark reality of dogfighting and other animal abuse, and includes brief descriptions that may be unpleasant for some readers.

Different!! This story intrigued me because of the dog fighting angle in the plot. I don’t know a lot about dog fighting and I found this story very informative to that way of life. Sidney was a woman full of surprises, most not good ones. But, I was able to understand to an extent why she couldn’t get a hold of her feelings in order to not put herself in danger. I thought Gumby was awesome in his understanding and patience with Sidney’s obsession. This was a page-turner for me!
I have been a Susan Stoker fan since Protecting Caroline. Even though I have enjoyed most of her books, there have been some that are a miss. This book hits the only ok scale for me. The story did start rather suddenly. If you have read the previous book, Securing Caite, you do get the intro to Decker and Sidney’s first meeting. But there was no intro in this book so as a reader, you feel as if you have missed half a chapter. Loved Decker/Gumby even though he doesn’t get much character development. He is your typical sexy, caring alpha. As much as I can emphasize with Sidney’s passion (I have 2 rescue dogs myself), for me, she became the h who is TSTL. I felt Decker was too quick to forgive Sidney’s poor choice of action. But I don’t know how the story would have ended if Sidney had not chosen the path she did.
Susan Stoker leads us into the illegal dog fighting business when Sidney Hale attempts to rescue a dog and gets targeted by the man who trains dogs, pit bulls, into fighting machines. She is saved by Navy SEAL Decker “Gumby” Kincaid, who finds himself falling for this woman who suspects had a reason for her compulsion to rescue dogs.
I am always in awe of Susan Stoker’s stories—yes, they revolve around characters we have come to love, but as always, the plots she gives us, the twists and turns of every story, is always unique, making it a no-brainer for readers—old and new, to keep following her wherever she leads us.
This story was no different, dealing with an illegal dog fighting ring. I really cannot understand why there are people who think it is fun and exhilarating to watch what is literally man’s best friend, fight to the death. Yes, pities are fierce, but they can be the gentlest of creatures when showered with love and affection.
In the Philippines, there are provinces that I know of that sell dog meat, and even though it is now banned, I know that the black market is still thriving, and I hate it. I am glad that Susan Stoker, in her own way, has shed a light on such practices, and it is my hope that you, dear reader, can do what you can in your own town or city, to help raise awareness against these illegal activities.
I really enjoyed this book. I was heartbroken for what Sidney went through when she was little and the guilt she carried with her. I was upset that she put herself in danger but in the end her guilt led her to make some bad decisions. Decker was so protective and loving with Sidney and wanted to help her through what happened when Sidney was little. I loved Hannah she was such a great dog. The dog fighting was hard to read and it makes me sick to think that it is really something that happens.
Sidney is on a mission to save any animal that she can that is in trouble. Only problem is that she’s not doing it the right way. Gumby or Decker happens upon her while she is defending Hannah and the story takes off from there. I loved the lunch chapter with Sidney and Caite. I love the way Ms. Stoker writes all of her characters, that they are real people, and they are not perfect, they have faults, sometimes many faults. The way the men protect their women is swoon worthy and I wish there was more of this in the world. I do love these books and all of Ms. Stoker’s stories. She is a wonderful writer and great human being (I’ve met her two times at book signings).
SECURING SIDNEY is the second book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy series. It can be read as a standalone.
Decker “Gumby” Kincade is a Navy SEAL (swoon) who meets Sidney Hale while she’s rescuing a dog from a cruel dog fighter. For Decker, it’s love at first sight. But Sidney is fighting some ugly demons from her past. Can Decker pull her from the past and teach her to enjoy the present so they can have a future together?
As I mentioned above, Decker is a SEAL but also, he’s truly one of the good guys. He’s sweet and protective and charming, definitely a swoon worthy character! He had so much patience with Sidney (<-insert sigh here). The circumstances of Sidney's past were downright CRAZY! My heart broke for her but towards the end, I also wanted to shake some sense into her! I figured out pretty easily what was going to happen and I understood the reasons for her actions but still... Regardless, these two were absolutely adorable together. I enjoyed the light suspense woven into the storyline and the almost sweet romance between Sidney and Decker. Told from dual POVs with a happy ending. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
I love all of Susan’s books. They are my favorite. I loved Sidney and Gumby and Hannah. I loved the very terrifying and interesting past of Sid. All the characters were brought to life in only the way Susan can do. I can’t get enough of these wonderful worlds of amazing she writes.
Susan stoker is the bomb!
You can’t go wrong with a Susan Stoker book. The story stands alone but if you’ve read other books of hers you recognize characters from them. You feel as if it is real world.
I enjoyed this book and it was so relatable in some cases, such as having an adopted dog that was previously neglected/abused. Loved how this book highlighted the vulnerability of both the H and the h, how they worked through their issues to make a better team. I loved how this seal team is their own entity from the previous ones but still have the comrade that we have come to love by Susan Stoker’s characters. Suspense and romance in a great book!
Decker/Gumby is a Navy SEAL and comes to the rescue of Sidney. Sidney is a handy woman at her trailer park and also rescues pit bulls. She was fighting a man over the abuse of a dog when Gumby came upon her. He decides to adopt the dog after taking her to the vet to get fixed up. There is something about Sidney that draws Gumby to her and wants to date her. It takes a little while because Sidney has secrets and is afraid she’ll be dumped before they even start dating. When she is taken by a dog fighter, Gumby will do anything to get her back.
Excellent story with action and romance. Be aware dog abuse is told. I love this series and can’t wait for the next one.
Decker, aka Gumby, has his hands full with dog rescuer, Sidney. She is brash and opinionated and he falls hard. They bond over Hannah, the rescue Sidney saved from Victor (a dog abuser and suspected leader of a dog fighting ring). This book has action, suspense, glimpses of Sidney’s tragic childhood, a crazy neighbor, the rest of the men from the team and Caite, and hot steamy scenes. You can’t go wrong when you choose to read a Susan Stoker book. She seems to keep coming up with scenarios that keep me coming back for more.
I truly enjoyed reading it!
It is an engaging, suspenseful & moving story. Decker & Sidney steal your heart
from the very first pages to the last.
Another great book in the series.
I loved everything about this must
read story!!
i was on the edge of my seat a couple of times. Poor Sidney and what she went through with the brother and parents she had. Gumby was amazing and Hannah omg! The subject of dog fighting is horrendous and Susan talked it very well. Another winning storyline. Looking forward to Ace’s story and really intrigued about Phantom.
Another great story from Susan Stoker. Decker “Gumby” not only saves and helps his new dog, Hannah, to heal but he ultimately does the same for Sidney. I loved the interaction between them and how patient Decker was with both of his ladies and their issues due to their pasts. Already looking forward to the next book in the series.
Decker and Sidney meet under unusual circumstances but are still able to forge a relationship. The more time they spend together, they realize how much they like each other. The relationship is not smooth sailing, however. Decker is not happy with Sidney’s tendency to put herself in danger when it comes to trying to help abused animals. Sidney thinks that Decker just doesn’t understand so instead of waiting so he could go with her to check out a situation, she goes on her own and walks right into a trap setup for her. Can Decker find her in time and prevent her from enduring the plans the bad guys have for her?
This was clearly another awesome story for me, I keep trying to imagine how the hell Sidney survived her childhood, let alone made it to adulthood and thrived, I mean I know she has issues to sort through but who wouldn’t after growing up in her family and omg don’t even get me started on her parents and her brother is a non-entity but now she has a new SEAL family and I love how close she and Caite have bonded.
Gumby is amazingly patient but tough when he needs to be and that is perfect for Sidney she needs to know exactly where she stands, so her mind is not constantly wondering if she’s done something wrong.
Her need to rescue and save dogs or basically all animals is so ingrained from her nightmare childhood it was so hard to read her story but it all made sense and I love that in the end she realized she needed to find a safer way to do things because she finally had people in her life who truly loved her.
I am loving this new series from Susan Stoker! The books just keep getting better and better. This is the next story in the SEAL of Protection Legacy Series and features Decker “Gumby” Kincade and Sidney Hale. The way that these two people met was so original and different. You can’t help but fall in love right away with Decker when you see how he is with Sidney and Hannah. Your heart will go out to Sidney when you learn about how she grew up and everything that she has been through and how she supports herself now. You can’t help but admire her. She is a strong woman and just perfect for Decker. The whole story will keep you entertained from beginning to the very end. I especially love the chapter where Sidney and Caite meet for the first time. It will make you chuckle. The whole book is a winner!
I love Susan Stokers books & this did not disappoint. Sydney was feisty but so annoying but Decker was wonderful & patient. Hannah was a inspiration . Don’t miss this book
This is Sidney and Gumby’s story.
Gumby is a US Navy Seal, while Sidney helps animals.
Sidney has had an…interesting…life so far. She is the sister of a serial killer. He tormented her since early childhood. She does have some serious issues to deal with because of her early years.
Gumby meets her quite by accident. As he’s driving by, he sees a woman fighting a man over a dog. He stops to help and the rest as they say is a Susan Stoker story.
Gumby ends up with 2 girls, not just one (he he he)
There isn’t a lot I can say as I do NOT wasn’t to give away spoilers.
Just READ THIS BOOK!!!
