What started as an adventure, soon became hell. Piper Johnson’s thrilled to spend time in Timor-Leste with her best friend, a Peace Corps volunteer…until civil unrest erupts throughout the countryside, including an attack at the orphanage the women were visiting. With the aid of a SEAL team sent to extract the government employee, Piper flees with the only other known survivors—three young orphan … orphan girls. Piper wasn’t able to save her friend, but she’ll be damned if she leaves the girls to the mercy of child traffickers in the country’s impoverished capital. However, taking them with her to the States requires something drastic, something crazy…something she can’t do alone.
What started as a mission, soon becomes fate. Since nearly dying on a previous op, Beckett “Ace” Morgan has no time for regrets. Life is far too short. So when he learns the brave, beautiful, selfless woman he’s rescued has a better chance of getting three orphans out of the country if she’s married, he doesn’t hesitate. Ace marries her then and there, instantly gaining the family he’s always wanted. With time, he knows his respect for Piper can grow into love, and meanwhile, he’s saved both her and their new daughters from a fast-spreading rebel incursion.
Protecting his girls on foreign soil turns out to be the easy part of the team’s mission. Protecting them from a threat waiting at home may be the biggest fight of Ace’s life.
** Securing Piper is the 3rd book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

If you love alpha military heroes, you will love Susan Stoker’s Navy SEALs. They are big and bad, super-protective, and have a code of honor, trust and support that cannot be broken. If you hurt one of them, they’ll all come after you. 😉
That’s what I love best about Ms. Stoker’s SECURING series–that we get to meet each member of the team in each book. We get to know them a little better before they star in their own story, and then we get to revisit the team and the women they love. I’ve always enjoyed a series with that strong community of characters.
Ace is the hero in this book. And what I loved best about the team’s “little” guy (make no mistake, he’s seriously buff, skilled and sexy, but he’s a little vertically challenged compared to his teammates), is that he’s truly a family man. A family and kids is the one things he’s always wanted, but never felt he could have because of his job. But when the team rescues Piper and three orphan girls from a horrible situation, he is instantly drawn to each of them. A rebel invasion prompts an impulsive marriage proposal and Tex, another teammate speeds through an adoption so Ace and the team can get Piper and his girls safely out of the country. When a threat follows them home, Ace, Piper and the rest of the SEAL team go into full protection mode to keep their newest family members safe.
The scenes with the girls were my favorites–seeing how they wrap those big, bad SEALs around the little fingers. The love scene was super hot. The romance is tender and well-developed. And the action, while it might be a little intense for some readers, was nail-biting and cheer-worthy.
My only disappointment (and it’s a mild one) is the ending. Things wrap up pretty quickly. Clearly, Ms. Stoker is setting up future stories, but I would have liked a little more focus on Ace & Piper and their girls.
Don’t miss Piper and Ace’s story! It’s Susan Stoker at her best!!!
I love ACe and Piper. I love how they clicked from the start. And they didn’t fight it. I also liked the resolution. Great book. They just get better and better.
Another excellent story. There does appear to be a recipe of sorts to most of Ms. Stoker stories. The circumstances change, concept & ingredients but they are at the core they are same. I don’t mind that kind of like the always HEA.
Very great book. Situation are very realistic and believable.
I always enjoy a Susan Stoker special forces book.
I love reading anything Susan Stoker writes. But I am especially fond of this series, SEAL of Protection:Legacy. Securing Piper is book 3 of this series and in this novel Susan creates a mission this team is known for – a rescue mission to bring home a congressman’s daughter. The mission is the usual FUBAR, with unexpected twists that rely on quick thinking and adjustment of plans by the team. Susan’s wonderful creative and vivid descriptions of action had me imagining I was right there on the mission, hiding from the evil rebels, holding tight to the SEAL team protectors and praying we get to the extraction point in time! I found myself holding my breath through several extremely action pack scenes.
But the rescue was only the beginning of the story! It amazes me how Susan can make the romance story as intense and entertaing as the rescue mission. And her characters are so real they could be your neighbors! “Ace” Morgan and Piper Johnson’s love story had me laughing ,crying and sighing all at the same time. Steamy love scenes mixed with the everyday struggles of cementing a forever kind of love experience made me want to hold tight to my own “Special Forces” man. Susan Stoker’s writing demonstrates an uncanny insight into the relationships of these very “special” soldiers and the determination it takes to love them given the job they do. I so appreciate how Susan can provide a happily ever after while maintaining the realism of these men and women.
I highly recommend you pick up this book! It is a delightful read that gave me respite during a very stressful time in my life. Susan Stoker’s novels are almost like a Calgon bubble bath…Instead of “Calgon take me away!” I prefer to let Susan Stoker take me away to a place where even the most f**k-up mission has a beautiful ending!
OMG! The adventure, the scary excitement, the fear! I know the blurb shared about an orphanage, so all of this and children involved also. I read until I felt like my eyes were going to bleed. But I can’t stop now, when there are two more stories to read, that will answer my questions.
This book can be read as a stand alone, only if you don’t have a heart for others involved!
Piper’s journey to freedom felt so real and the instant connection with Ace made we want to trade places 😉 Some key life lessons in the mix, life is too short so take a chance on happiness.
