Navy Nurse Avery Nelson never dreamed she’d be taken hostage during her deployment in Afghanistan. She’s assisting local women with healthcare, not fighting in a war. But digging her way out of her would-be grave turns out to be the battle of her life. She’s not the type to simply lay down and die, or sit around crying, waiting for someone to save her…though Avery can’t deny it’s a massive relief … relief when the very SEAL she’s been flirting with for months comes to her rescue.
Cole “Rex” Kingston has saved his fair share of women over his time as a SEAL, but no mission has ever seemed as important as the one to find Avery Nelson. Digging the woman out of the rubble of a mountainside in Afghanistan hammers home to them both just how short life is, and they waste no time acting on their attraction, getting closer as Cole helps Avery deal with the aftermath of her ordeal.
But someone isn’t happy that Avery didn’t die in the mountains…and they’ll do anything to make sure she doesn’t live long enough to talk about what she might’ve heard and seen while deployed.
** Securing Avery is the 5th book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Foreign soil, domestic soil. The threat is real and the SEAL team is Avery’s best bet. A story full of action but tenderness too! Great characters and an amazing story in the continuation of SEAL of Protection: Legacy series!
Avery is one of my favorite heroines I’ve ever read. A strong, confident, smart woman–a Navy lieutenant and nurse–yet heart-breakingly vulnerable in some ways. Good thing Rex is there to rescue her (only!) when she needs it. He’s probably my favorite of Ms. Stoker’s SEAL Team: Legacy heroes. Of course, I haven’t read Phantom yet. 😉
This book is so suspense filled and action packed. Lots of close calls, PTSD, and learning to live and love in the moment. Cole “Rex” Kingston, Navy Seal, has been flirting with Navy Nurse Avery Nelson forever too shy to ask her out. When Avery is taken POW after a weapons convoy was intercepted by rebels in front of the building she was teaching a class to local women on nutrition and childbirth. Rex and his team are sent in to rescue her and they all know this is personal.she has been missing for two weeks when they get intel to her location. Avery was beaten and starved and then buried in a dark cave by an explosion. She has survived on water dripping down a wall of the cave and kept herself busy moving stones to get herself out. This is a great addition to the series.
he wanted to ask her out for months she had wanted to ask him too when they rescue her she asks him right there they get her out of the country and back home because of being captured she has some fears he helps her deal with them they use her help to catch the guy responsible for her capture they hold to each other forever sizzling romance and a wonderful happy ending
Susan Stoker had ABSOLUTELY once again knocked it out of the park! Susan’s works are treats to me and devouring Securing Avery today was exactly what the doctor ordered!
Avery is so strong, so tough, so sweet, so capable, and I am in awe of her and all the women like her! She’s a survivor, and it is incredibly beautiful to witness her journey, both on a personal level and as her relationship with Cole, Rex, develops.
And Cole? What a hunk of a sweetheart! I adored him, his way of trying to be there for her, his fears and how he deals with them, the strength he has that he also lends to her, the way he cares about and for her. It is stunning to witness.
Their chemistry? So powerful! Their relationship? Growing stronger each and every day. The camaraderie with the team? Priceless.
I lived for the connection between Avery and Phantom, and cannot wait to devour Phantom’s story, even as I know it is going to put me through the ringer in the best possible way!
As with every Susan Stoker novel, you will not be disappointed. I guarantee it!
great characters and plot. I will read many books from this author
Wow this woman is plucky, brave and completely kicka.s. She’s not just going to sit back and wait. Suspenseful and exciting, lots of tense moments to keep it edgy, but a really gripping and powerful read. I loved how strong she was even while dealing with the aftermath of everything, Rex was everything you could wish for in a partner, even showing his vulnerability which made him very human and not just super hero. There were a few twists as not all was plain sailing, but that helped keep things interesting. The one I’m really waiting for is up next and I look forward to Panthers falling, it’s been coming for a while.
Securing Avery by Susan Stoker is the fifth book in her SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. With Avery being taken as a POW and the PTSD afterwards Ms. Stoker takes you into a different realm. Most books have the Hero (Usually male) with PTSD and I really respect the time the author took to research how differently it affects our military because more women are serving at the front lines now.
Avery Nelson and Cole “Rex” Kingston have been dancing around each other for the past few books neither taking the next step towards dating. But when Rex finds out that she’s been taken hostage and that his SEAL Team is being sent to rescue. But Avery knows there’s a traitor on base and he is determined not to let her live to tell anyone. Cole and his team are determined to protect her and find out who he is while keeping Avery safe. But while at work she’ll have to find a safe place when the killer comes for her. Will Rex and the team be able to find her in time?
I loved Securing Avery by Susan Stoker and the action starts right from the first chapter with Avery trying to dig her way out of her current situation. Cole “Rex” and the rest of the team arrive on scene to rescue her and it’s non-stop action and suspense that I could not get enough of along with the romance between Avery and Rex. I loved how intelligent and strong Avery is and she showed her strength and determination throughout this book. I really enjoyed how her and Rex’s relationship developed and that they took their time in getting intimate which was worth the wait. I also liked Avery’s interaction with Phantom and that we got to see more of him. Love this series and cannot wait to read Phantom and Kaylee’s story.
Cole “Rex” and Avery were in a push and pull courting prior to her being sent on mission to Afghanistan to help clinics. Where she would witness something that would change the course of her life and put her in danger while over seas and at home. After being beaten, starved, held captive and buried alive she has more harrowing feats to survive before this is anywhere near over. Rex was determined to save her and then did everything in his power to make her his women. I loved how she connected with phantom on so many levels and helped him about the mission with piper. I have to say I found some things annoying about how they handled one another about being intimate but I loved the book. CANT WAIT FOR PHANTOMS BOOK!!
Love this series
4 stars . Another good read from Susan Stoker.
“Securing Avery” is the fifth book in the Seal Of Protection Legacy series, and I must say that each book gets better. This is the first series that I have read by Susan Stoker and now that I am hooked, I will be starting the original Seal of Protection series. Don’t know what took me so long to start reading her books, but I am so glad that I did.
This is the story of Nurse Avery Nelson and Cole “Rex” Kingston, they have been flirting with each other for a while, but nothing ever came of it. When Avery gets taken hostage in Afghanistan, she fights to stay alive anyway she can, she is a strong, courageous woman who will not just lay down and die. Rex and the other Seals have the task of rescuing Avery and they will stop at nothing to get her back where she belongs, but will she be safe then?
This book is loaded with passion, angst, action, and suspense. It will definitely keep you flipping the pages!!
Very enjoyable if you are looking for a light read with more of a story. This is in fact what I personally am looking for in these strange times, something to hold my attention, that is easy to read and hard to put down.
WOW!! I can’t really explain how awesome this story is. It’s exciting, intense and the relationship between Avery and Cole (Rex) Kingston had me swooning. I was on the edge of my seat from the very first sentence of this story. If you a fan of Romantic suspense you do not want to pass this story by. It’s REALLY that good!!
SECURING AVERY by Susan Stoker. Wow! This one blew me away. Cole and Avery are simply perfect together. I adored both of them. Cole, in his grumpy way, is a pillar for Avery. He is, of course, uber sexy but willing to let his lady be who she is and just be there for her when she needs to lean on him. Avery is a strong and independent woman who shows true strength by not letting bad things get her down. Ms. Stoker certainly knows how to pen emotions and I felt them all in this one. Avery, while strong, does suffer some after affects from her time in Afghanistan, and, as the reader, I lived it with her. This one is a page turner for sure and I highly recommend it (as well as the rest of the series too)
I popped the cork. I know that may seem like a weird way to start a review but let me explain. Securing Avery has been out for a few weeks. And I just finished reading it. Whew! (Fanning myself) It was GOOOD…
So back to the cork popping. Imagine that you have taken a trip to a winery. And they have all these different kinds of wine. Some dry, some sweet…reds and whites. And while you are there you pick up 6 bottles, cause they’re 6 books in the series – get it 😛 (Well, technically 7). You’ve slowly been going through bottles. Enjoying the different flavors of each wine and you’ve just opened bottle number 5.
That’s how I see the SEAL of Protection: Legacy books. Each book has been a different wine. They’ve all been amazing but different in subtle ways. Flowery, potent, robust…and with Securing Avery you get yet another bottle of rich goodness.
Cole “Rex” Kingston may be the best bottle yet, although I reserve the right to amend this statement after the next book 😉 Alpha hotness paired with a bit of old fashion traits, Rex is not your normal hero. He’s gruff and sensitive but secure in his masculinity to be able to handle Avery’s strong personality. He’s what I would call a true “Renaissance Man”.
Avery Nelson’s world is in turmoil. But rather than sit around and curse her circumstances, she’s made the decision to “rescue herself”. She’s also made the decision to take matters into her own hands and ask out the hunky Navy SEAL that she’s met back home. Avery is bold and courageous. She’s the flavor punch without dominating the entire bottle. Each of them brings a great balance to the wine that you want to savor and enjoy.
Yet another bonus is even though each bottle has been different, you still get to taste hints of those flavors in this new wine. You also get an idea of what that last bottle is going to taste like. A foreshadowing of the fabulousness to come, so to speak.
So yes, I finally popped the cork on this book. It was a great vintage and I enjoyed the bottle. As an avid reader and a huge fan of Ms. Stoker’s, I can honestly say that each and every book is a testament to her amazing writing skills. If you’ve never tried this “brand” before, take this review as a HIGH recommendation!
What an exciting book this was. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Rex and Avery have been dancing around each other for awhile. They both are pulled in different directions for work but plan to meet up afterwards. Neither know that where they meet up again was not where they had planned.
Rex was an amazing character. You get to see him not only as a man but also a SEAL. You see how caring and concerned his is not only for Avery but also his teammates. I loved whenever Rex talked about his team in a way of them being brothers and they are better as a group then alone.
Avery is a nurse that is amazing under pressure. Her new adventure turns deadly when she is buried alive. I loved reading about her drive and determination. I liked her one rock at a time mentality. I think a lot of us could use that in our daily lives.
I have to say, I liked these two as a couple. They just fit for the most part but the thing I liked best about this book was the slow burn. I’ve seen other reviews that didn’t like that there wasn’t a lot of romance and things like that but to me where were they suppose to have all this romance? Right after the river incident?? When it is obvious to everyone she’s not sleeping?? To me, how Rex handled the situation showed he kind of man he is. He didn’t want to pressure her. He put the ball in her court.
I really enjoy reading Susan’s books and Securing Avery did not disappoint. Cole and Avery have been flirting back and forth and never get around to asking each other for a date before Avery is deployed. As it turns out she is kidnapped and although she is a tough woman who is working hard to get herself out of a bad situation, Cole and his team are sent in to rescue her. Not knowing whether or not she made it, they find her in alive in a weak state but still very much the strong woman she is. Cole rescues Avery, and Avery rescues him right back…in more ways than one. This is a great story of strength, passion, love and friendship. They have chemistry throughout the book, but don’t “act” on it until towards the end. I was thinking it would happen before it did, but it was worth the wait because they had to work out issues themselves first. You also get a glimpse into Phantom and who he is; I’m looking forward to reading more about him and Kalee in the next book!
Rex and Avery
Avery and Rex have been flirting with each other for ages. When Avery hears she’s going to be deployed, Rex decides when she gets back he will ask her out.
Unfortunately, while Avery is deployed Rex’s team learns she’s been kidnapped along with a weapons convoyRex’s team volunteers to go over and help find her and Rex is determined that when he finds her, he will ask her out
Loved Rex and Avery, so much going on but written so well Can’t wait for September to get here
