Lies and secrets… a cancer in the soul.
The following quote from CLOCKWORK PRINCE by Cassandra Clare came to mind after reading this story… “Lies and secrets, Tessa, they are like a cancer in the soul. They eat away what is good and leave only destruction behind.”
Harper is embracing her “do-over life” in Little Rock. Her attractive neighbor is now her boyfriend, she is more accepting of her aunt’s lifestyle, and has found a job that is fulfilling without being all-consuming. For the first time in her life, Harper is experiencing a positive work-life balance. There are unexpected, and life-changing, surprises for both Harper and her Aunt Hattie revealed in this story.
Harper is working with Dan at the magazine to turn-it-around similarly to how she did in New York before leaving her family’s lifestyle magazine. One of their employees, a photographer named Dex, comes up missing. Harper knows that she must act now to find Dex if there is any hope of finding him alive. The more that Harper investigates, the more secrets and lies she uncovers. She only hopes that she will not be too late to save her employee and friend.
This is a clean, entertaining, and intriguing, romantic mystery. Stacy M. Jones is a gifted storyteller who does not need to include profanity, sexual scenes, or graphic violence in her book in order to grab the reader’s attention and hold it until the final word. Kudos to Stacy!
There’s been a murder at Willow House. Further investigation uncovers a connection to a murder from almost one hundred years ago. Plus the Rock City Life photographer disappeared, leaving his girlfriend hurt. On the grounds of Willow House.
Something in the past has a score to settle. Harper is determined to find out what’s going on.
In this second entry in the series, Harper is starting to come to terms with her powers. An acceptance that was long held at bay – and an understanding that these things are benefits and not to be hidden – is finally coming to the fore and that pleases Aunt Hattie. Harper is the last in the line of Ryan women, it would be a shame to ignore such a big part of herself and her heritage.
Jones has built a wonderful small town atmosphere in this corner of Little Rock. I’d be hard pressed if I visited, to not look for Hattie’s Cauldron! Each volume I open brings a feeling of a visit with friends.
But make no mistake, there is mischief here too, and that’s right up Harper and Hattie’s alley, with help from the ever willing Jackson and Beatrix.
Start this series from the beginning. Not because it’s necessary to read them that way. They stand alone well. But because nestling in with these books is a great way to while away a couple of afternoons, with tea and something sweet, and imagine yourself on the couch at Hattie’s.
GREAT series!!!
This story is full of lots of interesting people-2 dead people seeking closure to who killed them & a missing child. I couldn’t begin to figure out “who done it”. I enjoyed how mysterious the story is all the way through. There is only 1 swear word. I received an ARC. This is my honest, voluntary opinion
