Every heart holds a secret, but some are harder to reveal than others… think very non-routine thoughts.
Hamish Logan, captain in the Highland Wolves, has been given a mission to protect the man working on a coded list of traitors. If the Wolves are ever to have the same rights as ordinary men, he has to prove to those in power that a wolf can be civilised. The only problem is the fascinating secretary, who makes his wolf rise to the surface and makes him want to do very uncivilised things.
When the traitors strike, Aster flees with a wolf in pursuit. But can she determine who is behind the plot against England before she forfeits her heart and her life?

I’d give this a solid 3.5. Mostly because somehow I missed that it was a paranormal romance, which aren’t really my favorites. Occasionally there were a few phrases or expressions that seemed anachronistic but not enough to really throw everything off. Interesting premise for the origin of the paranormal characters.
I enjoyed this one. Romantic, but consistent. I care what happens to the characters. I’m going to look for the next one!
I was impressed with how well written this book was! I would have given this book 5 stars, except that between Chapters 20 – 21, Aster turns into a silly female and is totally out of character.
Wonderful read for lovers of regency and fantasy! Characters are lovably deep enough to suck you in and keep turning the pages.
The plot was cleverly unusual for a romance with paranormals. I liked the characters, the storyline was complex to keep you interested, and the romance seemed true instead of fake and steamy only. I got the next 3 books in the series after reading this one. This one was essential, though, because it builds most of the plot that the others continue.
Great characters, good development of story line and relationships. Real depth to the story. Not typos or other errors. Would read others in the series.
It was not of my kind of read
Too slow couldn’t hold my attention.
I enjoyed reading it
Engaging characters – an enjoyable read.
I
the first few pages turned me off
great story involving werewolves vampires etc in Napoleonic era England. aniother strong women character
A mystery with twists and turns. Best series ever. Can’t wait for the last book in March!
This is just like another book I read only with paranormal qualities. Not sure which version I like the best?
I love Historical romances and the addition of the paranormal added to the enjoyment.
Enjoyed the story. Interesting plot. Will look for more in the series.
I will buy others in the series
really enjoyed the complexity of the characters. they had some depth, yet the story didn’t sit – enough action and emotion to keep the story interesting, and believable.
The Highland Wolves are phenomenal! I can’t wait for book 4!
