Every heart holds a secret, but some are harder to reveal than others… think very non-routine thoughts.
Hamish Logan, captain in the Highland Wolves, has been given a mission to protect the man working on a coded list of traitors. If the Wolves are ever to have the same rights as ordinary men, he has to prove to those in power that a wolf can be civilised. The only problem is the fascinating secretary, who makes his wolf rise to the surface and makes him want to do very uncivilised things.
When the traitors strike, Aster flees with a wolf in pursuit. But can she determine who is behind the plot against England before she forfeits her heart and her life?

I liked the main characters in this book. I wish the writer had done a little more up front in the story to explain it was not a historical novel. I have to say I was a little confused when vampires and wolves appeared during the Napoleonic war. Once I caught on, I enjoyed the story.
I enjoyed this book. An easy read
This isn’t my normal reading choice, but I like Regency, and thought I would give this a try despite the paranormal side. Oddly enough I found this entertaining with the paranormal element making this a light, fun read. There was a sexual scene, sensuality, and innuendos, plus some mild violence that some readers may want to avoid, but otherwise the story was clean and I am curious as to whether the Highland Wolves will be able to stop Napoleon’s spy network or not as the series continues. Even though the story has historical, Regency elements, it is a paranormal fantasy and readers should not expect accurate historical details.
Not really my thing and it got a bit monotonous
I didn’t think I would like this story as I don’t usually read things like this. I am glad I did read it as it was well written and easy to read. Great characters, a good story with some laughs. I did enjoy it so much that I may venture to read another tale such as this.
This book has a little bit of everything,a paranormal, shifter, Regency romance and mystery. All the kinds of casual reading I like, all rolled into one. There’s even Highlanders 🙂 Well written characters, witty dialogue, nothing too easy or too predictive. Highly suggest!!
I didn’t like this book
Love these books!
Fun stuff. I liked her imagination.
While I normally don’t like shifter books, I couldn’t put this series down. The women in these books proved how smart and resourceful they were, especially given the time period. Great reads.
Very enjoyable!
This book was a joy to read I just could not put it down. Tilly Wallace has a quick wit and ability to show emotions strongly. I not only cried with the characters but laughed out loud with the wit and humor of the Highland Wolves and Aster!
Original storyline, but ends abruptly.
Fun and entertaining!
I enjoyed this. The blurb said “woman as a secretary” which is historically inaccurate, but this was misleading. Her being female was only known to few. Hints to advance the plot, and keep interest, were well spaced, and the denouement fitted.
Will likely read the sequels.
Surprising
Such an entertaining departure from most recency romances!!
I am a sucker for a story where an outcast finds a family. The desire to belong to a group, to feel safe and secure because you are accepted for who you are is very appealing. The author has created a nice mix of characters and who can’t help but cheer when a little mouse wins the heart of a lion? Or in this case, a wolf. I’ll enjoy visiting with her characters in her next book.
I’m so over silly vampire wherewolf stories.
I usually don’t care for the werewolf/vampire genre but this was a great read.
