Ellen and her two best friends share a mid-life crisis by hatching a plan to renovate an 1860’s Greek revival in the nearby historic district of San Antonio. Although Ellen isn’t one to believe in ghosts, she comes face to face with something inexplicable in the attic. Her ghost-enthusiast friends convince her that they must help the spirit find closure, and as they dig deeper into the past, they … they uncover a shocking history that someone in the neighborhood doesn’t want exposed. But Ellen and her friends don’t give up easily. They realize they’ve been called to give voice to the invisible women who suffered behind the walls of the house for decades.

I found this a very entertaining book. There were historical aspects I really enjoyed and it was truly a ‘feel good’ book based on its ending. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys mysteries with a historical/slightly occult aspect to it.
Enjoyed the story and characters
Ellen and her two best friends have decided to invest in an old Greek Revival house in historic San Antonio that was built in the 1860’s which is purported to be haunted. Ellen doesn’t believe in ghosts but over time something in the house changes her mind. When the women discover items and pictures in the attic that speak of a dark history in the house, they decide they strive to bring a voice to those women who suffered in silence.
I bought this book for the haunted house aspect and because it was set in San Antonio where I Iive. While I did enjoy the read, it was slow in the beginning. I was also disappointed that Ellen chose to ignore some of the issues in her life rather than do something about them; otherwise, the characters were wonderful. And late in the story where a character is sacrificing animals for spell gives a bad name to witchcraft as that’s not what witchcraft is about. I did like that the three women wanted to expose the history of the house and bring a voice to the voiceless. When the story picked up, it was a good read.
I’m in the process of reading it again.
a beach read
Warm and fuzzy, with a cast of characters that satisfy our socially-distanced longing for friends.
I love the characters and all the trouble they find.
Easy to read and hard to put down!
Want to read more featuring these wonderful, wacky women!
Three women each facing a crisis of their own go in together to buy an old mansion. Mishaps and mayhem ensues. Not sure I really liked anyone in the story. It wasn’t hard to read, just not very realistic or interesting. I would not recommend this book.
Very good twist on a “ghost” story. Was not expecting it. Good book.
Very unusual. Loved it and recommended it to friends.
Quick read. Characters could have been more developed. Perhaps, they will develop in the next book. If you like supernatural and just a fun read I would recommend it!
I reall enjoyed this book
A delightful read !
I listened to this on Audible at 1.25x speed and really enjoyed it!
The story line, flipping a haunted house, kept my interested. The twists at the end, holy cow! I did not see that coming. I only stopped listening long enough to throw dinner together.
Three empty nesters and best friends needed to do something meaningful with their lives. They decided to find a renovation. One of them discovered the “Gold House”. They took a tour and wanted it badly, especially after they discovered it was haunted~ Six sellers already opted out days before closing…but why? Harrowing stories from the neighbors, sightings from others and personally, the women were dedicated to discover what truly happened in the house of horrors. They have to fight to gain the house, and once they win more and more secrets and clues will lead to deep, dark horrifying truths. These three women will persevere on the most rewarding experiences of their lives! It is a great book with all the right elements to keep you plugged in till the end! I received this as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mystery fans, get ready for your new favorite series. I just loved this book from start to finish. This is the story about three women who are best friends. They need something more in their lives so they decide to look for a house to purchase and fix up together. The house that they come across is anything but a regular fixer upper. They think it’s haunted. The truth turns out to be more haunting. At first I thought this was going to be just a light hearted paranormal mystery. As the book went on I realized it was more deeper and dealt with serious matters. I truly adored Ellen, Sue and Tanya. They had me cracking up at times. They are a great picture of true friendship. Even though at times this didn’t agree, this still had each others back. Get ready for a mystery that will keep you guessing and surprise you through out it. I can’t wait to continue on with these characters.
This mystery story is sure to keep you entertained. Three board empty-nesters plan to buy the Greek style Gold house in the historic district of San Antonio, and restore it to its former 1860’s glory. Ghostly figures, hidden treasure, a shocking history and a house full of secrets makes this flip project much more challenging and dangerous than the girls could ever have expected.
Ellen, Sue and Tanya are all believable characters with every day problems and unique and personalities. They are believable and life like. When they encounter a ghostly presence and the dark, convoluted history of the house, their nerves are stretched and their curiosity aroused. I loved that they did not back down from the challenge and worked to both solve the mystery and expose the houses secrets. The author herself narrated the audiobook and she did a great job. She gave the characters individual voices and enhanced my enjoyment of the story. This is an enjoyable mystery story with likeable, authentic people and a house full of secrets.
This is a great mystery read. This read grabbed me right from the start these woman getting together to buy a place and see if they want to actually buy it. This is a real page turner that had me intriqued throughtout the whole read. I was given this read. The Narrator does a Fantastic job with the voices. I definitely recommend this read. If you love myseries you will love this one.
