If Lord Donovan Trent had his way, he would spend his days carelessly wooing the women of London society. Instead, he found himself banished to the English countryside of Cornwall, forced by the decrees of his father’s will to run his family’s tin mines and find a country bride. The last thing the handsome lord needed was a local lass sticking her nose into his affairs, but that seemed to be … exactly what the parson’s daughter Corisande Easton had in mind.

Oh those Easton Girls! Love the whole series – read them in order
I wish the author would have continued the story. There was so much more to tell.
A quickie marriage comes to a slow blissful end. Interesting situations going on, some suspense to hold the attention. A different story line with a plot. Love the willful female character and determined male character. A delightful story.
Absolutely loved this book. The characters were wonderful and I’m sure glad it turned out well in the end. Corie was a bit of a slow learner
I enjoyed the story of Donovan and Corie’s relationship. It did remind me of the movie, “The Quiet Man”.
I loved how the author showed how their friendship & love for each other developed and not just the passion.
I read a similar title book and hope this will be also great to read.
really enjoyed this book… A vicar daughter known for helping the runner and poor but has very short temper makes deal with a duke brother of marriage and all in village are happy for the marriage but wish him good luck with her temper . Funny recommended
Secrets of Midnight by Miriam Minger
4 Star Historical Adventure and Romance!
I enjoyed this exciting and fast paced adventure, packed with mystery, danger, and drama that kept me rooted to the end!
The dialogue between Corisande and Donovan made me laugh, with her sharp tongue and shrewish sarcasm, and his seductive smile and cold sarcasm, they made quite the couple.
Three quarters through the book I was ready to reach in to shake Corie from her continued baseless accusations towards Donovan! Their love story was nothing short of a miracle in the making, between the way they came together, the secrets they both had, and the danger Corie and her family found themselves in, it was amazing they came together for a happily ever after! The romance was sweet and steamy with a 3.5 flame rating. I recommend this book to everyone who loves a great adventure and romance.
Secrets at Midnight – The Man of My Dreams
séries book 1
by Miriam Minger
Corie Easton has a mission in life and that is to help the less fortunate in the mining village. She’s not the type to fall head over heels in love that’s for young debutants and her best friend Lindsey Somerset. After all she’s seen what happens to those that lose their heart….her father never was the same after her mother died.
Enter Lord Donovan Trent the man that will change her life forever just as soon as she gives him a piece of her mind!
Donovan Trent is in a bind according to his late father’s stipulations he needs to marry a country girl of good breeding stock…..or no inheritance! Just when he believes that finding a wife to be daunting a spitfire of a woman literally falls in his lap!
It’s a win win for both, she gets the help for the miners/tinners and he gets his inheritance, what they didn’t expect is their fiery encounters to turn into an all consuming love!
This is my ultimate favourite trope, marriage of convenience! I loved Donovan he has a secret that he desperately needs to find (his daughter) so he needs the money but at the same time he feels the need to help the people of the village, not looking for love. He comes off like he doesn’t care but that’s far from the truth.
Corrie is scared at exposing her heart and being hurt and she hides this by letting her temper fly oh and what a temper! She’s AMAZING! Not afraid to speak her mind and speak it she does for the less fortunate, two people that truly need each other but secrets will get in their way before they realize that their love is a passionate all consuming one.
Fast paced with plenty of mystery and intrigue! Secrets and villains keep the reader in suspense and on edge, the plot was well done and the secondary characters truly enhanced the story. Lots of sizzling passion and witty dialogue made this a FANTASTIC read!
Miriam Minger has a gift for storytelling that truly brings her characters to life.
What’s a Lord to do when he is forced to the country by his father to manage the family’s tin mines? Add to that he must find a bride there in order to obtain his inheritance. Donovan only wanted to stay in London, but he needed those funds. Yes, he had a good reason. But he finds more than he thought when he gets there, in the form of one strong willed woman, Corie Easton, one of three daughters of the vicar. Wow, she was almost a crusader, giving him an earful on the conditions for the miners, demanding a fair wage.
Then the adventure begins! Donovan offers her a deal to marry him for a short period of time and he will take care of the miners! How could she resist? Well a lot is going on in the background that becomes evident as you continue into the story. Intrigue, suspense and of course a budding romance.
I really enjoyed this tale that had well written characters and a great storyline. I would recommend and cannot wait to read more from this author and in this series!
I don’t go for the romantic romance. This was a bit more modern for the time period because women really wouldn’t act this way then but it’s a fun angle and I’ll read the sequel.
You are drawn to the characters at once and the author take you right into the story. It is not long before you are cheering for the main characters and biting your lip in hopes all their situations turn out for the best. Romance mixed with some mystery with a good dose of history woven into the story.
Enjoyed reading the book.
Although I have read many different authors withn this genre, I am now counting Miriam Minger as one of my all time favorites. Her writing kept me turning the pages and wanting more.
I enjoyed this book very much.
Wonderfully written, slow burn romance. She’s a beautiful shrew—goes off half-cocked yelling at and insulting Donovan with no facts at all but loving and self-sacrificing to everyone else. He’s a patient, handsome, patient, compassionate, patient, sensible, did I say patient? Lord who just wants to find Paloma. Fully realized characters and great plot.
Actually I enjoyed it despite its length and the time it took the main characters to accept each other
Kept the reader guessing until the end.
All of her books are good
