Four young ladies enter London society with one common goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.
Annabelle Peyton, determined to save her family from disaster, decides to use her beauty and wit to tempt a suitable nobleman into making an offer of marriage. But Annabelle’s most intriguing—and persistent—admirer, wealthy, … wealthy, powerful Simon Hunt, has made it clear that while he will introduce her to irresistible pleasure he will not offer marriage. Annabelle is determined to resist his unthinkable proposition . . . but it is impossible in the face of such skillful seduction.
Her friends, looking to help, conspire to entice a more suitable gentleman to offer for Annabelle, for only then will she be safe from Simon—and her own longings. Thus begins a series of four young women who are never asked to dance and are getting desperate to find a husband, each for different reasons. Annabelle’s need was financial, as her family was living in genteel poverty and was getting desperate. Simon was a butcher’s son but was ruthless and had a gift for making money. In addition, they were like …
Annabelle may think Simon Hunt is a scoundrel, but she doesn’t really know the man, does she? Kleypas never disappoints and this story is no different!
You can’t go wrong with a historical romance from Lisa Kleypas! As always with her books, the emotion was deep, the details were lush, and the characters were nuanced and delightful. A great start to the Wallflowers series!
“I’m removing your stocking,” Hunt said. “And I would advise Miss Bowman not to interfere.”
Lisa Kleypas’ skillful ability to convey a thought, emotion or image in the most perfect way possible, comes to light in this wonderfully unique novel featuring a brash, non-aristocratic hero, and a lady without a fortune.
Simon Hunt is an entrepreneur …
I love Lisa Kleypas! Now a little while back I bought the whole Hathaways series for 4.00 and it was my first taste of Lisa Kleypas. I fell madly in love with all the Hathaways and when I finished that series I went to goodreads to find more books by LK to read. That was when I found out that The Wallflower series is connected to the Hathaway …
I read the third book in the series before reading this first book. Oh well. I enjoyed Secrets of a Summer Night immensely anway and read it in one sitting.
Four rejected wallflowers make a pact to help each other find husbands before their time runs out. I liked the fact that each woman is unique and has a different approach to solving their …
Let me tell you a well known, not so secret secret, folks. This author seems to always deliver heart melting, steamy romance between two nose to nose then heart to heart, perfect for each other lovebird main couples. If that is isn’t enough to snag your interest, the dramatic, unexpected perilous situation near the end, which results in all cards …
Such a great love story! I read it in one sitting. I can’t wait to read the other books in the series.
Annabelle Peyton and her family have fallen on tough times. After the death of Annabelle’s father, her family is having a hard time keeping up in society. Annabelle is without a dowry and doesn’t have very many choices when it comes to suitors.
Annabelle finds herself in the company of three other wallflowers and they soon form a friendship. …
Secrets of a Summer Night
The Wallflowers Book 1
Written by: Lisa Kleypas
This is not how I normally review, it is how I feel about this book and this writer and just a very few things that make this book so special to me. If you haven’t read this book I hope my words make you want to pick up not just this book but the entire Wallflowers Series …
The first in the Wallflower series, introducing fabulous characters. While the story focuses on Annabelle and Simon, the interaction of the 4 wallflowers was my favorite part of a book filled with favorite parts. Annabelle and Simon’s love story was icing on the cake. Read the entire series, and keep on going!
The interaction between Annabelle and Simon was great. He drove her nuts and the same the other way. Her friends “trying to help” were a riot. It was so heartwarming to see them get their HEA.
My favorite series ever
I can’t tell you how much I love this book. I became so engrossed it the story immediately. Love the characters and their interactions both in romance and friendship. There’s nothing I didn’t like
I have been binge reading Lisa’s books this past month. I’ve enjoyed them all so far. This book is the only one so far where I felt the need to skim a bit. Towards the end it got a bit dragged out and pointless. Also, for me there was no major “conflict” big enough for that hook you need in the middle. One of their “conflicts/fights” never really …
A true romance that takes the long way…but it’s a fun ride. First in a series of books about wallflowers who form a pact to watch out for each other. Anabelle is from a family that lives by the good graces of others, and she needs to make a good match (rich husband with a title) to save the family from ruin, etc. Could be formulaic, but this …
I have read the whole wallflowers series. Each one is wonderful and different. I am a Lisa Kleypas fan.
Secrets of a Summer Night ranks among my five favorites of more than 200 books I’ve read in the last two+ years. I loved the main characters & the secondary characters (the heroine’s friends). Simon is a unique HR hero, the son of a butcher accepted by the aristocracy thanks to his shrewd business sense & considerable fortune. Independent & …
2nd read: 2020
1st read : many years ago
Sometimes you have to re-read a book to remember how much you loved it the first time that you read it. That was the case with this book. Many years ago when I read a lot of historical romance books, the writer Lisa Kleypas was one of my favourite writers of this genre. But then other genres got my …
Poor heroine with nothing to her name falls for the rich hero, a man of the Earth who is so stoic and alpha sweet.
