Four young ladies enter London society with one common goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.
Annabelle Peyton, determined to save her family from disaster, decides to use her beauty and wit to tempt a suitable nobleman into making an offer of marriage. If you just want to get lost in some well-written historical romances, I’d have to say this whole Wallflowers series fits the bill. You get witty repartee, an often funny narrative with comedic breaks between the emotional agonies, steamy love scenes, and and a band of rejected, unsuitable women who begin to work together to get each other married …
My Thoughts:
I’ve been listening to The Ravenels Series by Lisa Kleypas on Audible, and after reading both of the St. Vincents siblings love stories; Gabriel and Phoebe, I was excited to learn that their parents had their own love story, which is part of the Wallflowers series. However, when I went to listen to their story, Devil in Spring, …
Love, love, love this author.
Romantic and entertaining, I love Kleypas love stories.
Being the romance lover that I am, how in the heck have I missed Lisa Kleypas all this time? I discovered her via the Rachel Hollis Rise podcast, after which I immediately purchased this book (the first in her Wallflower series). Rachel said this is the place the start!
First of all, Kleypas’s writing style is light, yet flows, easily sweeping …
Great
A fairly predictable historical romance with a twist that neither characters are members of high ton. Cutely romantic and quite entertaining despite predictable plotline.
This was such a wonderful story! Excellent introduction to The Wallflowers series. I loved Annabelle and Simon’s relationship, I adored the wallflower women and their bond, and I’m excited for what’s next. Can’t wait to read more of this series!
4.5 Stars
The first time I read this book (and all it’s sequels) was probably 10ish years ago. I loved it then but havn’t touched it since. I’m not much of a re-reader. I only re-read books if I really REALLY love them and there’s always a massive amount of time in between re-reads. Enough time to basically forget everything except the basic …
Secrets of a Summer Night was a great introduction to the Wallflowers ladies. This group of women were so much fun and most importantly they were there for each other. Annabelle and Simon were wonderful adversaries delivering great bantering and tried to fight off their attraction. Even though it started off very slow the pace picked up halfway …
Annabel annoyed me a bit with her outright snobbery about wanting a man with a title, despite the fact that her situation was desperate and she should’ve been perhaps a bit less discerning. However, this hesitancy just made Simon’s serious interest in her that much more satisfying to read.
