Tallie Brown’s life has never made sense. Raised in isolation by her mother, Julia, Tallie was dragged suddenly and without explanation from one third-world outpost to another until life normalized seven years ago when Julia took a position on a mountaintop in the Pacific northwest. But when Julia unexpectedly dies, Tallie uncovers clues suggesting that Julia had a secret life. Journalistic … phenom Jackson James is still recovering from the devastating mistake that flatlined his promising career. Now he’s paying the price, working as the editor of a syrupy community rag in a posh D.C. suburb. But when the very man who destroyed him drops a tantalizing lead about a potential D.C. scandal, the reporter sees his chance for redemption and sets off to chase the story. Jackson’s investigation leads him to Cutler’s Ridge, a dying Virginia coal town, and directly into the path of the mysterious and beautiful Tallie. As these two mistrustful loners follow their leads, their stories begin to intertwine until they reach an alarming conclusion – something terrible happened in Cutler’s Ridge. As they doggedly pursue the story, the town’s cold reception spirals into threats and danger, proving that there are those who will stop at nothing to keep the past hidden forever –because secrets never die.

Secrets Never Die is a mystery full of intrigue, danger, a dash of romance, action and lots of interconnecting parts. The main characters and the plot are very interesting. I couldn’t put all of the pieces together to solve it and appreciated the way the author showed the solution through dialogue. If you like mysteries, I think you’ll enjoy this one. It does raise the question of how much is too much to sacrifice for the greater good. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.
This book is AMAZING and will take you on some twists and turns to find all the answers. Be prepared to be riveted to each page. Such fun writing! I loved how the ending came together. Do no miss out on this one.
WOW! This is a very well written book. It is full of twists and turns and keeps you turning pages to see what happens next. It has suspense, drama and action; it will keep reading way past bedtime. I highly recommend this book. Thank you Covenant Communications via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
I haven’t read anything by this author previously but was given a copy by the publisher. I was impressed. This was a twisting, turning journey that kept me guessing until the end. There were enough bread crumbs to start to put pieces together but it definitely didn’t give too much away.
I would definitely read stories by this author again. I loved that there were still some things unresolved, not unanswered, but unresolved.
The book travels through the perspectives of other people and in doing that made for a richer story. I may just read some more of the mysteries in my to be read pile as this really whet my appetite for mystery and suspense.
Secrets Never Die is a great suspense novel that had me guessing until the very end. I enjoyed that it was unpredictable and I never could figure out who was really the villain or not. The main character Tallie’s life has never been what she assumed and I enjoyed how the reader is right there with Tallie trying to discover the “secrets” of her life and what they all mean. The end felt a little rushed and left me slightly wanting, but over all a great suspense novel I would definitely recommend.
5 Star

SECRETS NEVER DIE by Laurie Lewis. This book is amazing. So fast paced and such a mystery. It’s the story of Tallie Brown and her mom Julia. Julia has raised Tallie in complete isolation until about 7 years ago and they move to the Pacific Northwest. When her mom dies suddenly Tallie is left wondering about her mom’s past and her own future. Looking thru some photographs she’s lead to believe her mom may have been hiding Tallie’s family from her. Jackson James is a journalistic star until he makes a horrible mistake that takes him out of the game almost completely. When a lead is literally dropped in his lap he rushes to Cutler’s Ridge, a dying Coal town, to follow the lead where he runs into the beautiful Tallie. Their two journey’s collide and leave them both wondering if they will ever truly find out the mystery of Tallie’s past. Read Secrets Never Die you won’t be disappointed it will keep you on your toes until the very end.
Laurie Lewis has written a masterpiece of suspense and intrigue that keeps you glued to the pages from beginning to end! It keeps your mind spinning with guesses of what is going to happen next and how everything will eventually piece together. It is a complicated plot that will have you a bit frustrated at times because you will want to solve the mystery so badly! I kept wanting to skip to the end and find out how it all works out! But every page is definitely worth the read!
Tallie Brown was raised by a mother who never showed her much love. Or she did in her own way, by raising Tallie to be smart, always aware of her surroundings, and cautious of everyone. They moved around constantly with no explanation until they finally settled in a park ranger station for the past seven years. When Tallie’s mom suddenly dies, Tallie finds secrets hidden within her mother’s belongings that lead her on a dangerous journey to find out her true past. She ends up in a small coal town in West Virginia (the state I live in so this made the story that much more intriguing to me!) where she finds resistance from the towners and where she meets Jackson, a journalist who is also an outsider in town looking for information of his own.
When Tallie and Jackson’s paths cross, they are wary of each other at first but determine they could both use a friend and decide to team up and help each find the information they are looking for. The result is a journey of twists and turns that will keep you up all night in anticipation of what will be revealed next! Five stars from me for Secrets Never Die! So dive in and plan for a sleepless night!
I have had the pleasure of reading Laurie Lewis’s Love on a Limb novels around last years holiday season and I fell in love with her knack for spinning a sweet and gripping romance with some fun twists thrown in. When I saw SECRETS NEVER DIE, I just knew I had to see what the story would unfold into as soon as possible. I am so glad I scooped this one up. I adore when a book can consume me, make me feel as if I am in a separate, peaceful, state that I just can’t find anywhere other than a good book. This book very much did that for me. I found myself so wrapped up in the story that I quickly lost track of time and my surroundings. The sun set and the hours ticked until I found myself on the last page at 2 am wondering why I didn’t savor it just a bit slower.
The suspense in this story really grabs your attention right off with those first few chapters. I found myself completely engrossed in the journey Tallie takes. Tallie’s relationship with her mother and her past sets the reader up for a tale that will make you try and put the pieces together only to find out that you had them all mixed up after all. I was hooked until the end with the way things were built and the side twists and turns that I never saw coming. I can’t wait to see what else will come next from Laurie Lewis. I loved her writing this suspense and would love some more! In the meantime, I do have a few of her titles that I haven’t read yet that I will be going to dive into soon!
Secrets Never Die by Laurie Lewis is a very, very clever suspense story that keep you on your toes as you try to navigate the delightful twists and turns. It really shows off Laurie’s talent as an author as the plot whilst seemingly random, is one dance that is so intricately woven together, yet delivered to draw you in. The characters are well developed and believable to read. There is action and drama, suspense and thrills that will keep you tied to your chair as you try to piece it all together and try to work through the puzzles. Laurie has done great job with this story and it is one of the best suspense stories I have read this year.
You need to read and discover the world that Laurie has created so you won’t be getting any spoilers from me.
Laurie Lewis has become an author on my must list. Her books are suspenseful-the kind that keeps you hooked from the first page to the last page. Secrets Never Die is that book. There is little suspense and a little romance all wrapped into one. There are two mysteries taken place one about a female,Tallie whose mother moved around and the other is about a reporter, Jackson who has had problems in his career. Each investigates their lives which leads them down a path that they may not be ready to see or hear about. The story is gripping and is a roller coaster ride. Every decision can lead to a good situation or a bad situation. Will Tallie and Jackson find the answers they are after or will it put them deeper into the rabbit hole?
Laurie L.C Lewis is a new author for me, and after having experienced her writing I will definitely be looking forward to reading more. This book was an excellent thriller, suspense read that had me hooked & captivated from the start. You were on the edge of your seat with the twists and turns that were weaved throughout the read! I loved the characters that Lewis has created, they were well developed, relatable and likeable. I loved the journey we were taken on, it was a rollercoaster ride of suspense, intrigue, mystery and a thrilling ride of secrets.
I’m so glad I got the chance to read this, I can’t wait to read more from this author to see what else she brings!
Secrets Never Die is a well-written tale full of suspense. There is a lot of detail and a lot of twists and turns to keep up with, but the mystery of it all keeps you hooked. The characters are full of depth and complexity. If you want a rollercoaster ride of danger and intrigue, this is the book for you. Just be prepared to be in it for the long-haul. You won’t sleep until you’ve read the last word!
Brilliant work!
Secrets Never Die by Laurie Lewis is a book jammed packed with suspense and mystery. It grabs your complete attention right from the beginning and doesn’t ever let go.
Laurie Lewis has created the kind of story has you on the edge of your seat trying to guess what might be happening. The story is full of twists and turns the whole way through and yet she does such a good job at controlling them all it is easy to keep track of what is happening.
The characters were brilliant as well. They are the type that you just want to read more about. I would definitely not be disappointed if we were taken back into their lives at any point. This is a 5* author and an amazing book!

Secrets Never Die by Laurie Lewis is a fantastic mystery that is full of drama, suspense, danger, action, intrigue, twists, secrets, lies, cover-ups, heartache, questions, discoveries, and cleverly woven details. I always look forward to reading anything Ms. Lewis produces, and this book was no different. This is definitely my favourite of all her books that I have read, so far. I was completely absorbed by the story and was trying to figure it all out before anything was revealed. There is quite a lot going on in the story, with lots of details, and inter-connected elements which were a little hard to keep track of at times, but I soon got in the groove and loved unravelling the puzzle.
Tallie Brown has just lost her mother and has been left with many questions she needs answers to. So, she embarks on a journey of discovery which leads her to Cutler’s Ridge where the story really takes off. The more she ‘investigates’ the more questions arise. Her world is shaken, and her mettle and emotions are tested to the limit. Little does she know going in that things will take quite a dangerous turn. There are secrets and cover-ups, and much to uncover on her quest for answers.
Jackson James had a promising journalistic career and was on-track to great things, when it was all snatched away, and he has been living with the consequences of that bad decision ever since. When an opportunity to redeem himself comes to his attention, he jumps at the chance. Finding himself in Cutler’s Ridge on the trail of a ‘hot’ story. There he crosses paths with Tallie- and so the mystery begins.
This is such a clever and suspenseful story, and I really enjoyed how Ms. Lewis pulled and twisted the tale, keeping the tension quite gripping. I loved the characters- they worked really well together. I would love to read more about them in future books. Perhaps they could have their own ‘investigation’/mystery series. Hint, hint Ms. Lewis.
Highly recommended- definitely worth your time and money to read!!! Can’t wait to see what Ms. Lewis does next!
Thank you, Laurie Lewis!
This is a tale that has a slew of misdirection and incomplete information. The story while interesting seemed to move forward very slowly. There are two stories unfolding. I struggled with this one holding my attention. I could easily put it down for a couple days and not really rush to get back to it. It does have its page turning moments but most of the middle just seems to be information gathering and not too much happens. We get to know more of the towns people and try to figure out Jackson’s reason for being there and who his contact really is.
This has a ton of characters. Some are helpful others are secretive and not helpful. Even the not sharing can be helpful to this story. Tallie has an analytical mind and is able to work through because of her upbringing.
This isn’t my first book by this author. For some reason this one just didn’t work for me.
Somehow Lewis has snuck into my life and beat me over the head with a mallet because I don’t know how I haven’t read more of her work before now. But suffice it to say she is on my “buy it all now” list! This book was brilliant! I simply have no words to describe how much I enjoyed these pages. It has the right combination of intrigue, suspense. The main characters were well developed and complex and relatable. Even the setting was a character on its own with plenty to say. I loved every page and cannot wait to read more. Simply brilliant!
SECRETS NEVER DIE by Laurie Lewis
5+++++ AMAZINGLY AWESOME Stars
I just don’t know where to begin with this review. Laurie Lewis has sat within the top of my “favorite authors ever” list since the first book I read by her, and that has not changed and I don’t think ever will. Each book is different, there is no pattern to her storylines and when I open a book that she has written I make sure I can read it in its entirety because that is what normally happens.
Secrets Never Die had me all twisted up, it was a never ending roller coaster ride constantly having me speculating the next move and finally just giving up and enjoying the ride. Being completely hooked happened on like page 1 and it never let up from there. The storyline was so unique and so precise with no stones left unturned, I was left with no questions or confusion, just simply wanting more! I did not want this story to end. I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I said I never got confused while reading because there were so many dips and curves along the way but it just took sitting and lining everything up in my mind to keep me on track. I can not even try to sum up what happened in this book except to say that the characters were amazing. I loved some, I liked some, and I strongly disliked some and there were a few parts where they made me smile. Suspense with a good mystery is one of my favorite genres and Miss Lewis hit this one out of the park.
I would love more from this town and these characters, I would love to know how the trip to Idaho turned out, but for now I’m going to go ahead and allow this story to end in my mind the way I want it to 🙂
Highly recommend this and anything by this author. She is truly amazing and sets the bar high with every book and then meets it or beats it on the next.
It took me a bit of time to get into this book. I think my biggest problem was that we didn’t know anything until Tallie or Jackson figured something out, and because there was so many things they were all trying to figure out it was hard to keep track of everything. I also felt like there were a lot of characters. Everyone is introduced, and it seems like everyone even got a backstory, which I generally love, but because there were so many people it was difficult for me to keep track of who was who and why they were important. The story definitely picked up for me when Tallie and Jackson connected and started a friendship.
I appreciated the twists and turns. It really does make for a great suspense novel. This one really just wasn’t my cup of tea, however. And honestly, it might have been that I just wasn’t in the mood to read it, I’m not sure. It was well written, but it just wasn’t quite for me.
This was a thrilling, on the edge of your seat, somewhat complicated, clean fiction story. I have read several other books by this author so I was really excited to read her new book!
I liked the main characters Tallie and Jackson, even with their quirks and different ways of dealing with situations and people. There were several people in play and who were a piece of the mystery puzzle that Tallie and Jackson were trying to solve throughout the book. Mysterious pictures, notes, unfriendly townspeople, disappearing people…lots of mystery, intrigue twist and turns!
I really enjoyed it and highly recommend! I couldn’t put it down! I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
