Every house deserves a second chance. But people? Not so much… Accidental carpenter Astrid Martin loves antique homes with beautiful bones, her father’s fifteen-pound poodle, and other people’s adorable children. She detests wet basements, crooked socks, and Henry Webster. First, he kissed and ditched her the summer after high school. Then, a few years later, he ruined her life with a traffic … later, he ruined her life with a traffic stop. Astrid’s bright, shining future? Gone. Good girl reputation? Trashed. Public humiliation level? Through the roof!
So when an older, wiser, sexier, and newly-single Henry attempts to hire her to renovate a moldering old farmhouse on the outskirts of town, Astrid’s first impulse is to tell him to take his period fireplace and shove it. But then he throws something unexpected on the table…
Redemption.
In exchange for rehabbing his house, Henry will do everything in his considerable power to clear Astrid’s name and restore her reputation. All she has to do is swing her hammer and get the job done without losing her heart.
Quirky and fun—with cute kids and epic besties—Second Story is Book 3 in the Love in New Bedford Series. Like all of Delilah’s stories, this book includes characters with issues and insecurities. They make mistakes, even when their hearts are in the right place, but the HEAs are guaranteed.

Henry arrested Astrid years ago, and destroyed her shot at medical school. She’s followed her father’s footsteps, doing home renovations. Henry’s wife took off, leaving him with their two children, living with his sister. He buys a cool old farmhouse with great bones, but it’s otherwise a complete disaster. Against her better judgment, Astrid agrees to renovate it for him. Somewhere along the way, she forgets that she hates him. I loved this book, at least as much as Sugar Rush, and maybe a little more. I liked reading Henry’s story, and the kids are so cute. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Book three in the Love in New Bedford series a well written story that held my interest throughout. Astrid Martin and Henry Webster have a rocky history starting when they where younger. I like reading how these two get a second chance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book Iv’e read by Deliliah Peters. It’s a story taking place in a small town where the two main characters have a slight tenuous history together. He’s a local policeman who a few years back arrested Astrid for having marijuana in her car, the whole town seeing and now her feelings and reputations are in tatters. Henry’s recently divorced with two children and having just bought a house needing fixing needs Astrid to help him. She gave up being a Doctor after their incident and is now a carpenter like her father. Needless to say Astrid hated Henry and he has to talk her into helping him. They keep getting thrown together and soon their chemistry gets the better of them. It’s a wonderful second chance story with a great cast of characters, but you’ll need to grab your copy for your self to see if they get their HEA! It’s a great summer romance book. I’ll be grabbing the other books by this author my self!

I fell in love with Delilah Peters after reading Sugar Rush, Book 2 in the Love in New Bedford Series. In that book we meet Henry, Ava’s older brother and you could just tell that his story would be an interesting one. Henry is a single dad with two great kids trying desperately to do what’s best for them. After having to move in to his sister’s tiny house, Hank buys a DIY nightmare and is forced to hire a carpenter in the form of Astrid. Astrid took over her father’s carpentry business and built a name for herself after having to give up her dream of becoming a doctor due to a series of events that left her heart and reputation in tatters. The event in question brought on by none other than Hank. Adding to their complicated history is the ever present sexual attraction between them. How two such broken people find their Second Story, their happily ever after is what makes this book such an incredible worthwhile read.

I fell in love with Delilah Peters’ writing style in Sugar Crush, and nothing has changed. While Astrid is not as adorable as Ava, her interactions with Henry/Hank (depending on her mood) are equally engaging. There are a few encounters with Ava and Leo again – but they don’t rely on your having read Sugar Crush; this is a great standalone. There are some hints about the reason for Astrid’s arrest, and it’s good to be able to guess and be right about it. Astrid’s fear of not being able to take on Henry’s kids too – she’s human, she’s courageous, she’s scarred – she’s a great character. Henry is less appealing; yes, he’s redeemed himself, but he got away with way too much, in my opinion. However, the fact that I feel this shows a well-written character, and that goes for the minor characters in the story as well – and of course for the lovable Charlie dog. It’s a light read that leaves you feeling better after reading it. It’s perfect for a weekend or holiday.
