This was well written but will take you through so many emotions. Dax was a Special Forces Sergeant who was held captive and lost his sight. Evianna works in the tech world as a coder. The things Dax had to endure was heart wrenching but Evianna doesn’t see his disability. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I just added another author onto my list of faves, and an author whose books I don’t want to miss. I devoured this read about Dax, a blind ex military man who survived 15 months in Hell, a place aptly named after the torture he endured until his rescue. He now heads a security firm in Boston and is hired to protect Evianna, a woman whose life may be in danger after she fires an employee and he goes off the rails. After an incident there’s no doubt that Evianna is in danger and with all his other employees either off or on another mission, Dax remains to guard the woman who seems to get under his skin. With his blindness and the deadly threats, can he protect her.
Oh my my my my what a read that has steamy and sensual scenes, scenes that brought tears to my eyes with the longing and deep feelings from Dax, suspense that had me gripping the edge of my seat till my knuckles turned white and beautiful heartfelt scenes between brothers who were lost for years and find their way home. I LOVED everything about this read, the characters were so real and I LOVED that there was no over the top drama, they stuck by each other’s side and healed what the other thought was broken.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Wow what an awesome post-military, romantic suspense. Ms. Eddy did an fantastic job developing Dax and Evianna. Dax is blind due to being tortured while in the military. Evianna is a computer code whiz that’s being threatened. The story line is full of action, intrigue, suspense and romance. I loved the strong male and female lead characters. I received a complementary copy via Hidden Gems and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.
Once I started reading this book I did not want to put it down. You can read this book as a stand alone but I would highly recommend you reading at least On His Six first as it gives Ry’s story which is a big part in this book. Again Patricia pairs two people who are perfect for each other even with all the broken they have. I really believe she did a great job on what goes through being blind. This book is fast-paced with heart and steam.
*I received a free copy of this book via the Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Years after being held captive and tortured, former special forces Dax Holloway continues to adjust to life after his eyes were severely damaged while in captivity. He has successfully, along with his partner Ford, created the Second Sight Investigation and Security Company. When Evianna Archer contacts his firm, she needs protection from a former member of her staff. Evianna is in charge of the release of Alfie, a home security device that will change the world. Someone is attacking her and trying to undermine the upcoming launch of Alfie. At first, she does not know that Dax is mostly blind, but feels a connection with him during their meeting. As he steps in to protect her, her home is vandalized and someone dear to her is threatened. I had not read any books by Ms. Eddy, but really enjoyed the action, romance, suspense and Dax’s take charge attitude in protecting Evianna. A very emotional and wonderful read. I look forward to checking out Ms. Eddy’s previous books in this serious as well as the ones to come. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Patricia kept me waiting for Dax’s story for a very long time, but it’s been definitely worth the wait! When Evianna’s life is threatend by an unknown force she seeks help from Second Sight and by meeting Dax her life will never be the same again but so much more. This is auch a emotional story with Dax’s past that never really lets go of him and Evianna slowly curling her way into his heart. But when the enemy is just around the corner and about to strike everything is about to fall apart, if there’s not a way out. Absolutely loved this story and Ford’s the next in line. Perfectly great!
SWOON! Dax and Evianna’s love story was so beautiful! Dax was a tortured soldier of war who survived and had to learn how to live in a completely different life. He wasn’t looking for nor did he think he was worthy of finding love. Evianna was being threatened and in danger from unknown parties; she sought help with Dax and his company. Their connection was immediate and their love story moved at warp speed. I loved the writing style and the story, I can’t wait to read more in the series!
WOW, I would rate this book 5+ stars, I was hooked from the first page. My heart twisted with so much pain for what Dax went through and had to endure, because of this he is the closed off person he is today. His past scarred him, both physically and emotionally. Evianna the beautiful geeky computer science nerd, who only ever wanted people to like her for not her physical appearance but for the smart intelligent woman who she has become. Evianna is a trusting person with a big heart, who only every wanted to just show how her simple idea could turn into so much more. What seemed like an easy job for Evianna to fire an employee who was not following the rules of his contract, turned into so much more. Dax who has endure enough in his life finally finds someone that can breakdown his tough walls. This story had so many turns and twists, just when I thought I knew was going on the story turned again. I seriously fell in love with Dax & Evianna, I wanted them to break all the odds, I only wish that they could find love and happiness with each other. I now must read the rest of the books in the series since I am hooked!!! I highly recommend this book, you will not want to put it down.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy. I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the fourth book in the Away from the Keyboard series, but can be read as a standalone. Dax is one of two Special Forces soldiers who survived Hell, the Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan. But before he was rescued, they blinded him. Six years later he owns a private investigation firm. Evianna is the CIO of a tech company on the brink of a major tech evolution. She hires Second Sight because a former employee is harassing her. Another great book by Ms Eddy. She really knows how to portray our veterans and their struggles. This is a mystery and a love story. 4.5 stars.
This book was amazing and I could not get enough. I loved Dax and his strength to keep going when life dealt him a crap load. He never let them steal his joy or his happiness and he went on to create a company called Second Sight and that is his baby. He does the same routine everyday and he makes sure to never veer from it till one day he has to.
Evianna has a great life. She is heading up a secret project that will redefine home security. She is on top on the world till one day her life is threatened and she has no where to turn but to Dax for help. Dax agrees to help her and find out what is going on but in the process of helping her he is starting to have feelings for her and that could put them both in harms way.
When they uncover a shocking secret their lives will be forever changed because now they are being hunted down and are in some serious crap. To make matters worse Dax will have to make a choice, he will either stay with Evianna and help her or walk away and save himself as well as his family and friends? This is a must read thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat reading till the end to see what happens to Dax and Evianna.
Be ready to feel anger, loss, confusion, love and acceptance as well as mystery and suspense while reading. Dax is strong, efficient but also so vulnerable not just with his sight and then there is Evianna, strong and confident but still trying to fight her way in a male dominated world. This book grabs you and hold you until the end and leaves you wanting more!!!
Wow! Patricia Eddy, you completely captivated me with Second Sight. I think was on sitting at the edge of my seat for at least half of this book. I suffered with Dax, rejoiced in his triumphs and was elated by his happiness. Evianna is remarkable. Her strength and resilience and the way she was able to see the man behind the damaged outer shell really won me over. Dax and Ryker really talking after so many years and the evident love between them made me tear up. Powerful stuff! Great story, great characters and fast paced action!!
It took a minute to get to this one but finally got into it. This has been one fantastic series with each one being one that is solid on its own but also in harmony with each other. Also with some of my favorite elements that the characters where special forces was one of the reasons it was a winner to me. The characters in this have a strong backbone even stronger than they think at times. Dax grabs you for sure with his challenges but also how he is a winner to the reader. Evianna is sharp but also faces a big challenge that bring these two together. The intrigue in this wraps around you wanting to follow every instinct and find the clues. This also keeps us jumping but as always in this author’s novels love begins its magic on what will be the outcome in this one.
Second Sight is book four in the Away From Keyboard series by Patricia D. Eddy. This is a stand alone romantic suspense. The characters from the previous book do play a role in this book but you do not need to have read it.
We met Dax Holloway in the previous book, On His Six. He is Wren’s boss and owner of Second Sight, an elite investigative services organization in Boston. Dax was held prisoner along with Ryker six years ago and now he is blind as a result of the torture he endured. He has learned to be fairly independent with the help of his elite military training. But his world is a lonely existence still filled with nightmares of what he and Ryker endured.
Evianna Archer is CIO for Beacon Hill Technologies. For years she, along with her boss, have been working on Alfie, a home automation and security device. It’s almost ready for the big reveal and everyone is working non-stop to get the last few bugs out of the code. One of their employees has breached his contract and has to be let go. Only he doesn’t take it well and Evianna feels as though she might need protection. Someone recommends Second Sight so she goes to them for help.
Evianna’s situation escalates quickly and she and Dax find themselves thrown together as he is short staffed and she needs protection. The chemistry between them is strong from the start and Dax feels the need to make sure she is safe at all costs.
“Kissing her…it’s like coming home. To a home I never knew I wanted or needed.”
Dax hasn’t been with anyone in six years. No one has seen his scars, has seen what he has become. But Evianna sees the man that he is, she sees beauty, she sees a man she could easily fall for. If only she can stay alive long enough to find out.
Dax and Evianna can’t ignore what is happening between them. At the same time, they are in constant danger as they try to figure out what is going on.
“With you, I’m not the man I was, but the man I think I’m supposed to be.”
This book, just wow! I loved getting a little bit of Wren and Ryker and seeing how happy they are. And I loved watching Dax and Ryker rebuild their friendship. But most of all, I loved Dax and Evianna together. I loved how Evianna was with Dax, how she so quickly learned to be a part of his life. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, especially the last 25%. I stayed up way too late last night finishing this because there was no way I could put it down.
If you enjoy steamy, sexy, romantic suspense with strong characters and heroes that are all alpha and possessive, this is for you. There is one more HUGE thing that made this book a hit for me. Dax’s favorite endearment was “darlin!” That is my favorite word of all time and every time he said it, I sighed. Thanks, Patricia, for another intensely wonderful read. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
“You’re mine, Evianna. And I protect what’s mine. No matter the cost.”
This book is a masterful exploration of life without sight, gut-wrenching despair and hopelessness, and healing. Dax is broken in body; his captors in Hell avenged Ryker’s escape by blinding Dax and continuing their physical torment. His flashbacks and the way the story is told makes it so immediate for the reader that you feel wrung out by the end, affected in ways you might not have expected from a novel. Patricia D. Eddy is a magical storyteller; while you read her words, you are in the world she’s created, tripping over the bag left on the floor, listening for clues. In fact, there are parts of the book where I felt blind; although I was reading the words, I was with Dax; my world was black and I felt his initial panic. There is romance and love too, crafted into the story with Evianna a perfect match for Dax, with her empathy and courage – and intelligence.
There are some resolutions to previous situations in this book, but they won’t detract from its strength if you haven’t read the earlier Away From Keyboard books. For those that have read them, Wren features here with her delightfully quirky curse terms. I still feel raw from the effect of this book; I cannot recommend it enough.
Dax’s story is so heartfelt, so packed with emotions it’s impossible not to fall in love.
The plot is dense, thrilling and keeps you glued till the end. Patricia’s writing style is so fluid, honest and direct, there is no beating around, she goes to the point and scores every time. There are several memorable moments in this book and I do not want to spoil them by giving details. Just rest assured you will be pleasantly surprised with the level of connection that is possible to develop with these amazing characters. I was an emotional rollercoaster all the way through, they made me cry, smile, laugh and feel so happy for them! Definitely a story that stays with you long after you finish reading. And once I finished, I simply started over and I am sure I will read it again and again and again.
Can’t wait for the next book to meet new characters and revisit the much loved ones. This is sensibility writing at its best!
This is the fourth book in the Away From Keyboard Series. I love this Series so much! Dax and Evianna’s story is breathtaking, suspenseful and wonderful. They are both beautiful and strong characters, and they share an undeniable chemistry. I loved to see again Ryker and Wren. Ryker and Dax’s story is totally heartbreaking, and we learn more about their past. The brotherhood between them is strong and exceptional. The Epilogue is so heartwarming and beautiful. Aiden Snow and Grace Grant did an outstanding job with the narration. I truly enjoyed listening this story and I highly recommend it.
Fantastic book.
Dax, even with his scars, was swoon-worthy. The way he felt he needed to protect Evianna and how she brought light into his life. The story touches upon the torture and what he experienced when he was captured. But the way he is with Evianna is beautiful and I loved how she saw right through him to who he really was. This has action, suspense, and danger right along with their budding romance and it kept me on edge the whole time I was reading this.
Loved the relationship between Eviana and Dax. Got me hooked on Patricia Eddy.
