I’ve always played by the rules. But I’m about to break them all. Two years ago I found her. Body broken, beaten. And I knew the moment those blue eyes met mine that I would protect her no matter the cost. I just didn’t realize the price would be my heart. She’s my best friend’s little sister. The star of all my fantasies. Forbidden fruit, ripe for the picking. But the closer I get to her, the … picking.
But the closer I get to her, the more I realize that she’s hiding more than just her desire for me. She’s playing a dangerous game. One that could have deadly consequences.
First goal: Protecting her.
Second goal: Making her mine.
This isn’t a game I’m willing to lose.

What an absolutely beautiful happy ending!
I will admit, before reading this, I went back and reread Kane and Brynnes story. So emotions were already fresh. But im pretty sure I would have still cried either way.
Both Kaylie and Blake had so much damage holding them back, yet making them desperate for more. Watching their journey to the end was just wonderful.
I would highly recommend.
I also would not turn down an extended epilogue…just saying.
Happy reading!

I cannot say how much I loved this book! Kiley has a lot of baggage, growing up in foster care. Blake had his heart broken by the person he loved most. These two wounded hearts slowly begin healing one another. Their relationship is a bit rocky, but they both put in the work to make what they have lasting. This is not a light hearted story, but it does have funny moments. All in all, this story is amazing, and I will definitely be rereading it!

Blake and Kiley are both broken inside and have been hurt by people that are supposed to love you and support you. Both have major trust issues but when they come together the broken pieces seem to come back together. Can they overcome their trust issues? Can they work things out? I really loved this pair and this story, I wish it would have been a little longer just because I was left wanting more. . I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
I could not put this book down! From the start Kiley and Blake are so stubborn. He’s so protective of her and she’s so guarded that it makes you wonder if they even have a chance.

This is book 3 in the Men With Wood series and it features Blake and Kiley. She and her brother, Kane, were separated in foster care when they were younger. He was adopted and she wasn’t. She had a rough foster home life and an even worse life after foster care, on the streets. Blake found her two years ago, broken and beaten. Since then he’s watched out for her. She’s his best friend’s sister. Trust is the keyword in the story. Kiley doesn’t trust easy. If life on the streets taught her anything, it was that. Kiley has some mega skeletons in her closet. Secrets that if Blake or her brother knew about, they would put her back out on the street. Blake was devastated by a woman in his past. He’s got major trust issues too. Just when she and Blake decide to give trust a chance, her past rears its ugly, drug infested head.
This story line is fantastic! The characters are amazing and the growth throughout the story is impressive. This author really knows how to make you feel deeply invested in her characters.
Two broken people are healed together in this terrific romance.
Blake has been protecting Kiley like it’s his job right from the moment he met her. She has a complicated, tragic history, one that she is sure won’t be forgiven by her new friends and family, but one she can’t fully leave behind, either.
This was a hauntingly beautiful love story, expertly paced and filled with an amazing array of emotions. Both Kiley and Blake make mistakes along the way, but their love is strong enough to withstand even the harshest storms. They both struggle with trust issues, and I liked that the author didn’t use a magic bandaid for an easy answer.
Kane and Brynne are also featured heavily in this book, though I can’t say I like Kane very much after seeing the way he treats his sister, Kiley. Blake and Kiley have a wonderful HEA with joy and justice in equal measure. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is a feel good love story. Blake and Kiley’s love story is a slow relationship building love. They have known each other for a couple of years before starting a new type of relationship. I loved the story buildup. Kiley has a hard background and the author did a wonderful job telling her story. Blake is the hockey playing hero with some baggage of his own. Together they figure out how to get a happily ever after.

This is a great story about second chances and trust. About becoming the person you want to be and how the people around you can lift you up or sink you down.
I am in awe to this author and her ability to captivate the reader from the first letter and right through to the end with her entertaining and mesmerizing stories. And Second Goal is no exception.
It is a sweet, heartbreaking and engrossing romance filled with thrilling moments and well developed protagonists.
