I’ve always played by the rules. But I’m about to break them all. Two years ago I found her. Body broken, beaten. And I knew the moment those blue eyes met mine that I would protect her no matter the cost. I just didn’t realize the price would be my heart. She’s my best friend’s little sister. The star of all my fantasies. Forbidden fruit, ripe for the picking. But the closer I get to her, the … picking.
But the closer I get to her, the more I realize that she’s hiding more than just her desire for me. She’s playing a dangerous game. One that could have deadly consequences.
First goal: Protecting her.
Second goal: Making her mine.
This isn’t a game I’m willing to lose.

4 1/2 Stars!
Kiley was tormented and broken as she tried to justify her existence in her brother’s beautiful life. Her painful past held overwhelming secrets and she was constantly bombarded with guilt and shame.
Blake was by nature a protector and rescuer. His instinctual attraction to Kiley couldn’t be stemmed by the fact that she was younger, emotionally bruised, and his best friend’s younger sister.
Kane’s behavior towards Kiley was off-putting and caused Kiley way too much pain than I was comfortable with. I liked the way the author resolved their relationship in a climatic way.
The romance between Kiley and Blake took center stage with the haunting secret that loomed over their budding and emotionally intense relationship.
Well written super sensual and sexy scenes between them with intense buildup and chemistry that lit up the pages of my reader.
Another feel good story!

Blake has been watching over and protecting Kiley, his teammate’s younger sister, for years. Kiley was tossed around in foster care and ended up on the streets, Kiley can’t forgive herself for past mistakes and believes that when the people she cares about learn about her true past that they will walk away. While her and her brother, Kane, struggle to form an adult relationship, Blake is there to make sure Kiley is safe and has everything she needs. Kiley only wants one thing from Blake, himself. Blake struggles with the scars left from his past. Blake fears that he will never heal enough to allow anyone to get close or into his heart. When a threat from Kiley’s past comes back, Blake’s protective instinct goes into overdrive. Blake fears what he feels for Kiley but knows he can’t walk away from her either. Can two people damaged by their pasts learn to trust each other? Can Kiley learn to forgive herself for mistakes from her past? Can Kiley help Blake move on from the scars of his past? Will Kiley ever believe the people she loves actually love her in return no matter what? I absolutely loved Second Goal by C.M. Seabrook. Second Goal is all about trust, love, and forgiveness. Kiley and Blake must learn to trust one another if they are going to get their happily ever after, Kiley thinks she is weak but is really strong after enduring what she did growing up. The love and chemistry between Kiley and Blake is beautiful and strong. I LOVE C.M. Seabrook. I would highly recommend getting Second Goal or any other book by C.M. Seabrook.

First…I have really enjoyed all of this author’s writings, but this book was a perfect example of how your mindset can determine how you feel about anything you read and/or experience. After I finished this book, I was indifferent. I thought it wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either. THEN, I thought, how can that be, I usually love this author? So, I decided to read it again. As I was rereading, I wondered how I couldn’t have liked it more the first time. As usual, the author gives us a good look into the history of the characters and what led them to where they are now; a protective lead character who has great chemistry with his damsel in distress; and a well written story with so much detail in such a quick read. I am so glad I decided to read Blake and Kiley’s story a second time.

Woo!
Talk about a mind-bender of alpha hockey goodness, best friends little sister forbidden romance, with a twisted, hearts wide open of broken pasts, and dark clouds that follow Blake and Kiley’s journey to forever.
Tension filled, I couldn’t help but immerse myself into the pages of book #3 in the Men With Wood series.
Cursing Kane for his odd behaviors, swooning Blake and the rest of the team for their heroics, my emotions were all over the place, right with the characters!
A spectacular blend of raw, real feels dark emotion, witty banter, chemistry for days all going on amid hockey games, love slamming some in the face, and families finding their way. Another fantastic must-read from Ms. Seabrook!
This is the 3rd book in this amazing series and is Kiley and Blake’s story. This is a beautifully written story which is an emotional roller coaster journey throughout as well as having twists, secrets, steamy chemistry, and love. I was totally intrigued and hooked throughout this addictive page turner and in my opinion, this is this gifted author’s best work to date.
This was a great read with characters that are well developed and engaging and have chemistry. The storyline is well written and flows smoothly from page to page. This is a great PNR.

Blake is a goalie, and his best friend is Kane, defender to the same team. Blake was terribly heartbroken in the past, and has trouble moving beyond anything but hookups with puck bunnies, but he doesn’t even want that anymore. Kiley is Kane’s sister. They were split up in the foster system, and she had a much tougher life than he did. He tries to not care so much, but he gives her a living allowance and sets her up in an apartment in his building. Across the hall from Blake. Sparks fly when Blake and Kiley are together – they both know that this is a bad idea, but he wants to protect her. They both have trust issues, and he eventually spills his secrets, but she can’t – hers are so much darker. Her past is catching up to her, and Blake’s not sure that he can protect her if she can’t be honest with him. I am absolutely taken with this book, and wish I could give it more than five stars. This is so much darker and deeper than a usual hockey romance – not just a romance story, but the suspense that came along with Kiley’s past and her secrets. Her story is so painful – for most of her life, the people who were entrusted to protect her, failed to do just that. I love how much patience Blake has with her, and was glad to see him finally get off his butt and fight for her. I was not aware that this was the third book in a series, but it didn’t seem to be an issue. However, I liked this book so much that I just purchased the other two.

This was a good read! I liked Blake and Kiley together, and I thought they had great chemistry. The writing flowed well, and I felt like the story developed nicely. The only problem I had was Kiley wanting to keep secrets. I knew as soon as the book started that was going to be the source of drama, and I’m not a fan of secrets, but at least I knew it was coming. The ending was super sweet, and I thought it was perfect for these characters. I’m always up for whatever this author writes next!

Blake and Kiley are perfect for each other even though it took them a while to figure it out. These two have gone through so much in their lives especially Kiley. This is a heartbreakingly beautiful story about two broken souls who find each other at the right time. I love it when characters like this get a second chance at life and finally get their HEA. Great writing and a story that pulled at my heartstrings make this a must read.
Blake And Kiley’s Story Is About Learning To Accept Love And To Build Trust.
Kiley, about twenty years old, had a tough life until two years ago. Her famous and successful brother, Kane Madden of the Annihilator’s and one of the top paid defensemen in the NHL, took her under his wing, albeit reluctantly. He warned her it wasn’t a three strike system. She worries constantly that her secrets will finally catch up with her and the one break in life she got will be taken away.
Kiley and Kane entered the foster care system in their youth, but while Kane was adopted and given opportunities, Kiley went from home to home and was homeless for a time before she finally reached out to her famous older brother. He didn’t trust her. His rejection hurt. She had been badly beaten when she later awoke in Kane’s best friend’s apartment. Blake has watched over her for Kane ever since. As time passes, it becomes harder to ignore her growing feelings for Blake.
Blake Starowics, approaching thirty, has a problem with trust. Broody and bossy, the Annihilators’ star goalie can’t remember the last time he was with a woman. Five years ago he planned a future with Emily, but she shattered his heart. Indulging in puck bunnies proved to be meaningless, so he stopped. He finally found fulfillment in charitable work and working with rescue dogs. Today he is often referred to as a knight in shining armor. Featured on the covers of GQ and Men’s Health, he could have any woman he chooses. But there is only one that he wants.
Kiley became a woman right under Blake’s nose, and it isn’t just the urge to protect her that he realizes he feels for her. His best friend’s sister is naturally off-limits, though. Too many things can go wrong. He doesn’t believe in love and he took a vow to protect her so he can’t mess that up.
Blake and Kiley’s story is about learning to accept love and to build trust. When it comes to Kiley, Blake is protective and controlling. This puts her on defense, which does little to promote trust. Kiley is stubborn and guarded with Blake. He tries to earn her trust, but she can’t quite give it to him. If he pushes too hard, she turns off her feelings and tunes out, becoming numb. Together they learn to overcome the pain of the past. Kiley learns how to accept love and to be open and honest. Blake learns to take a chance on love. The couple earns a lovely HEA.
In Blake and Kiley’s journey, dishonesty and remnants of childhood pain are obstacles to the couple’s happy ending. The tone is serious. The story is nicely written. The plot is complex. Kiley’s secrets are slowly revealed, creating suspense. The characters are sufficiently defined given the length. The POV alternates between Blake and Kiley. I rate this book four stars.

What a feel good romance read! I loved the chemistry between Kiley and Blake, it deepened to love as drama, danger and a mystery surrounds them, but in the end the find their HEA. An enjoyable storyline with great characters made this a must read.
This is the third book in this (men with Wood) hockey series. It can be read as a stand-alone, for me it almost was, it has been a while since she released these books, and I just forgot about the stories. I know that Kane and Brynne are the characters in the second book and I can remember bits and pieces from their story. Kane is Kiley’s brother and he is also Blake’s best friend.
This story was very much a moving forward and letting go of the past, which both of these characters were very much hurt and were still dealing with. Kiley was in and out of foster homes and really had no one, even living on the streets, she did what she had to do to survive but blames herself for not doing more. Blake has trust issues deep trust issues. He also has a white knight, I gotta keep Kiley safe, treat this woman so right, side of him that was so sweet to read about. This man fell hard, but he can’t let her in. Kiley can’t tell anyone about her past. These two were stuck in limbo a lot. They did have some amazing chemistry, and I liked all the twists and turns and everything came full circle when you figure out Kiley’s past. Blake was what all book boyfriend want to be. Even Kane came around.
Kiley has had a rough life so far. Born to a drug addict mother and put into the foster care system, she has been fighting for her life for as long as she could remember. Blake is her brother Kane’s teammate and he has deemed himself her protector but what he feels for her is more than protector. When Kiley’s past rears its ugly head Blake’s trust issues become glaringly obvious. Can they overcome their pasts and build a future?
I loved the characters. They story line was dramatic and I loved the way the characters seemed to evolve with the story line.

This is the third book in the Men with Wood series and it is Blake and Kiley’s story. From the first time they met, Blake has taken it upon himself to be Kiley’s protector because of her tragic history. Coming from the foster care system and living on the streets, has made Kiley lose her self-esteem and feels as if she will never be able to forgive her past; let alone believe that anyone will ever care for her. Each has his/her own issues when it comes to trust. Can these two forge a bond that will give them what they are searching for? Like many of Ms. Seabrook’s books, she writes beautiful love stories with complex characters that readers cannot help but fall hard for. I look forward to reading her next book.

I came to this party late, not having read the previous books in this series. That said I had no problem jumping into Blake and Kylie’s story. I do however wish it came with a warning label: will need tissues and a mug of tea. These two, the pain they carry around is hard to take. Emotional scars and secrets abound, two wounded souls in desperate need of each other. Second Goal was beautiful and heart wrenching!
