It’s been almost a year since I’ve seen her, the only woman that’s ever gotten under my skin, and made me wish I was a better man. More than just the washed up hockey player, turned sports journalist whose body is almost as scarred as his soul.Layla Harper made me hope again. But life has a warped sense of humor, and I wasn’t the only Bennett brother that fell for the girl with the caramel … caramel colored eyes.
The night I saw Travis with her I knew I’d lost, even before I had the chance to fight. Because one thing I never compete with my brother over is women. Even if the woman stole my breath, and my heart with one single kiss.
And damn, what a kiss it had been.
Now, she’s pregnant with my brother’s baby. A baby he wants nothing to do with. And he’s asked me to clean up his mess.
What he doesn’t know is that I’m in love with her, and I have no intention of offering her the deal he’s laid out. I have a deal of my own. One that will finally make her mine.

Anyone who has read a Frankie Love romance knows I have a thing for babies! The cover on Second Draft pulled me, but the story stayed with me long after! Seabrook weaves a beautiful love story that had me reaching for the tissues and believing that love truly does conquer all!
This is the first book that I read of hers & it’s still my favorite! My goal is to read every one of her books!
I just have to say WOW. This book had me hooked from the beginning. I loved it. It made me laugh and cry and just get plain pissed at times. It is so great when you get so emotionally involved with the people in the book and when you can relate to part of it it just makes it so much better.
Let me just say I thought that Carter was going to be the one to screw over Layla that is was a big surprise when this book ended. I am glad that Travis, Carter, and Layla was able to come to an understanding. And I will not tell you what that was. You need to read this book. It is fantastic and fabulous. You will not be disappointed with your time or money that is a promise.
Doesn’t Disappoint! To Finally Getting It RIGHT!!
I saved her life, but she got away…
I found her Again in a Bar, but Mistakenly gave her the Wrong Number, losing her Again…
Well, they say 3rd times the CHARM…

D@mn!!!
I just need a Break, because I’m pretty sure this Girl with the Haunting Eyes is the ONE!!
When my Brother makes a Run, I’m making my MOVE & claiming the Precious Treasures he’s left behind!!
I was granted an ARC of C.M. Seabrook’s “Second Draft” via Booksprout; I recommend this book to others based upon its own merits. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given!
Until next time… Happy Reading!
Layla nearly gets hit by a car and the man who saved her made her body feels things that she hadn’t felt in a while, although she denies dinner with her knowing he could destroy her.
Waiting for a friend a few weeks later, she’s surprised when he shows up to save her again but from a drunk in the bar hitting on her, before he leaves he gives her a kiss to show her what he wants and his phone number.
Carter never thought he would ever see Layla again after the mistake of giving her his old phone number, when he gets a call from his brother to clean up his mess again and sees her at his house, pregnant with his brother’s baby, he’s brother tells him to deal with it. Carter knows something is stopping Leyla and she has walls up, but he realises she truly thinks she doesn’t deserve to be happy.
They go through so much and Carter wants to fix everything and prove to Layla that she deserves the happily ever after that she doesn’t believe she deserves.
I feel like this book was written just for me ,it has everything that I love in a story, EVERYTHING! I devoured this story , I wanted to read it based on the cover, I know I’m a cover whore, the cover is freaking Carter, the main hot as hell, tattooed, tall ,Over the Top Alpha, Heart of Gold Guy. I love Him, he is a Ex-Hockey star who had an injury, and write sports cover articles for a magazine. He is a normal Guy with hook up but only for one night.
Layla is a book nerd, (we are soul sisters) she is a lonely 21 year old , trying to figure out what to do in life. She is very much a reclusive you can tell that she is unsure of herself.
Carter saves Layla from being hit by a car, and their is an automatic spark . They happen to meet again at a bar and exchange numbers. A year later They run into each other again at Carter’s house that Layla is renting a room in and shes no alone. I don’t want to give anything away but a pregnancy is involved, but with a twist.
This book I didn’t want it to end, I had heart palpitations at one point, It really puts you through the ringer with all the emotions that it invoked. SO In Love With This Story.
Second Draft was a good second chance romance read. I enjoyed all of the main characters and although I wished Travis would have made better choices, he was young and spoiled. He needed more time to grow up but I’m glad Carter knew what he wanted. Even in the beginning of the story he knew what he wanted and I’m glad things worked out for him. There were a few surprises with Layla and I wished her father would have changed his feelings somewhere in the story but you can’t have it all. He really didn’t matter anyways. I wished the story had a different ending for Travis but it still had a sweet ending and was definitely worth read.
Parts of this story were very serious and quite heavy but the two characters just sucked me in. I just loved the H and how intent he was to get what he wanted. I highly recommend this story and will look to read more from the author.
I enjoyed reading this book.
***4.5 Stars***
A great read! Carter, our gorgeous hero, saved Layla’s life one day and it was their first meeting. It was also love at first sight on both sides but there was a mix up when Carter gave her his cell phone number. He forgot he had just changed carriers a day or two ago and gave her his old number. He was out of town on business for a year and had no way to contact her. So, when he returns home he’s shocked to find Layla living in the home he purchased for his brother. What was more shocking was that Layla was pregnant by Travis, his irresponsible, always-in-trouble brother. Layla didn’t sleep around…ever…until that one and only night with Travis. She had too much to drink and Travis had been hitting on her constantly since she began renting from him which also placed her in close proximity.
I highly recommend this book. It was well written and the character development was right on the money.
This was a FABULOUS 10+++ star story for me! A definite favorite. Carter gets two thumbs up in the tattooed swoony goodness category. Layla gets two thumbs up in the heroines I enjoy category.
I can’t say anything about the story, because there is a lot of wonderful stuff to discover in it. It is a bit of an insta-love slow burn – yes, you CAN apparently do both! I highly recommend this – it’s a must read!! : )
Great book! Two very different brothers. One down on her luck girl. Heartwarming and steamy story!
I loved this story and the characters were awesome.
I loved this book!!! I finished in one sitting… the H was so everything I’d want to find in a guy. Definitely a new favorite author
Loved the storyline!
A really warm touching book that keeps your attention and you don’t want it to end
This was my first time reading the work of Mrs. Seabrook and I loved it. Layla and Carter’s story pulled at my heartstrings and made me feel so many emotions. I wish I would of had a tisssue box near by because I definitely needed it. This is a story about second chances. About facing the memories that haunt them and over coming their hardships. Although there is a sad note at the end Layla and Carter’s story ends with a HEA.
Carter’s character was easy to love with his alpha attitude and his caring nature. Travis was the complete opposite of his brother and is best described as a Grade A Jerk. I suppose every story needs that one character you just hate to keep things interesting. The book could have been better if Travis just took off after he found out Layla was pregnant and never returned. As for Layla, I am on the fence about how I feel about her character. In the beginning you see a shy girl with walls built up to keep people out. She is damaged by events from her past which do explain why she is the way she is. I just felt like maybe it was overdone. I wished it didn’t take her so long to get over herself and let Carter into her heart. By dragging this out I became frustrated at Layla and started losing my interest to continue reading.
The beginning of this story and how Carter and Layla meet is a romantic idea that sets the story into motion. The fact that they keep running into each other feels like fate is gravitating them towards each other. I started losing interest half way through. Possibly because of how frustrated I became with how things were progressing between the two characters or the lack of excitement and intense feelings these two shared. I had trouble feeling their connection. Either way I kept reading in hopes that it would improve. The happy ending was a nice way to bring it all together. Overall I thought this book was alright but I didn’t enjoy it all that much.
Layla and Carter meet and hit if off at a bar the night before he is set to leave for New York for work. It wasn’t permanent, he would be traveling back and forth so he gave her his number in the hopes that he would see her again. Except he realized too late that he gave her the wrong number. A year later he comes home to find that his out of control little brother is throwing a party at his house. People drunk and doing drugs all over the place and his brother is in his room going to pound town with some random girl. But he sees Layla again and while he is excited to see her again he is crushed because she is living in his house at his brother’s offering . . . because she is pregnant with his baby. But he learns to truth of their relationship and his brother runs as far away from his responsibilities that he can, Carter vows to make Layla and her baby his.
I am not sure what my issue was this one but I didn’t fully connect to it. I didn’t have any issues with Layla or Carter and their relationship. I enjoyed their story but I didn’t love it and I don’t know why. I am fairly certain it is a case of its me not you so I would still recommend this one.
Carter and Layla were just too cute. A story of second chances and heartwarming love. Great story!
