Second Chance Magic
What do you do when everything you thought you knew and depended on was a lie?
Lorna Addams is in her early forties and married with three children. She is a dedicated mom and wife. She works when she has to and takes care of everyone. She is wife to Glenn and they have been married for twenty years. They are comfortable with each other. Then comes the day that Glenn is out jogging and he is hit by a car and killed. While the romance and spark are somewhat gone Glenn will be missed.
At the funeral Lorna meets the other family, a wife she did not know he had. Cheryl takes Lorna for everything she has. Her reputation is shot, everyone in town is talking about her. The newspapers describe her as the mistress. She is left with her children and some of her savings. The children rally around mom but when you are betrayed it is a shock. Her children are in college so Lorna decides that she needs to start over. Here we are three years later.
She moves to a town that she is drawn to in Freewild Cove in North Carolina. She finds a job with an apartment. She finds two kindred spirits and friends, Vivien and Heather. Heather’s brother William is also interesting. Cleaning her new apartment Lorna finds a ring, her two new friends find rings as well.
This starts a series of events that cannot be easily explained. Each woman has questions about their lives and they explore a paranormal book and new powers. Can they solve the mysteries surrounding each woman’s loss and ghosts?
I loved this book! Lorna is not a 20 something inexperienced woman. She is a capable woman looking to heal and start over. She finds friends that start to define her new life. William seems to figure in that new life. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here! This one is a page turner, you will not want to put it
Second Chance Magic by Michelle M. Pillow is the first in the Order Of Magic series.
Ups, downs, twists, magic and mystery!! This book is amazing and had me hooked from the first chapter. Great characters, I cant wait for more!!
Audiobook review- Interesting story of a widow who was wronged by her late husband. The discovery of healing magic and ghosts make for an interesting tale. The romance felt a little rushed but was a nice addition. The narrator did a great job. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This is a wonderful story! I am not a huge fan of witches but the way this one comes about is good! It didn’t bother me. I was so invested in the actual characters that when the witch stuff came around? It fit right into the story seamlessly. This one revolves around Lorna. She gets gob smacked with news at her husbands funeral. She moves and meets some new girls. Heather and Vivian befriend her and we learn a bit about them as well. Enter William…Heathers brother. The relationship between William and Lorna is sweet and adorable. These two together are great.
I am assuming the other stories In this series will showcase the other two women’s stories. I did listen to this on audio. Rebecca Cook is the narrator. She does a good job.
Hocus pocus ho hum
Second Chance Magic apparently doesn’t work for everyone. It falls pretty flat with me. Couldn’t tell if I was supposed to take any of it seriously, and it felt like I was reading “The Golden Girls Meet Bewitched” None of the ladies felt real. William was a piece of cardboard, and the various ghosts, spirits and what all came across like the Special Effects outtakes from Ghostbusters. The romance was a stone cold no-show; likewise the suspense, the thrills, and whatever else makes a paranormal so deliciously scary. Nope, none of that here.
This was my first introduction to Michelle Pillow, and though it wasn’t quite what I had expected; the book was enjoyable though I felt it was a short read. Maybe because of her name, I was expecting more of a steamy romance than what this story offered. What I was NOT expecting was a book with some definite frightening parts to it. The book itself was pretty well written with some fun midlife women’s humor at situations in this time of their lives. Some of the situations were predictable, and the romance with William is fast-paced though she’s recently widowed and had been married to the only love of her life for 20 years. There isn’t a lot of steam to it, but their relationship is still on the fast-track to love and finally a happily ever after for Lorna. The three friends are each unique, interesting, and fun despite the dark and mysterious situation they find themselves in. Though it’s not my favorite series in the PWF movement, I would give the second book a go if I come across it.
This is a terrific start to a new series involving women over 40. It has sassy women, humor, romance, action and more. Each of the three female characters in this story have gone through something heart breaking and aren’t completely over it. They each have powers that they didn’t understand how strong until they those powers came together. Add in a sexy man for Lorna and just WOW!!
This was a fun quick read w/ deep moments & light-hearted humor. Three 40ish women struggle to let go of the pain they carry & learn to live & love again. Magic & friendship bring them together & helps them heal. This 1st bk circles around the first if the trio & each subsequent bk is about the other two.
A group of authors come together to write a group of books specifically about women over 40 and the end result is amazing! I absolutely loved this book and the close friendships that Lorna has through this book. I look forward to the next in the series
I loved everything about this book. The characters were funny and quirky. There was a good blend of suspense and romance. I highly recommend.
This was an absolutely great read! I’m really happy that I gave a try to this new to me author because I’m hooked now I think forever. Second Chance Magic is the first book of new series in a new genre. After a devastating betrayal, losing everything life or destiny gives Lorna Addams a second chance to start over again. Pain, sorrow and grief is what brings three women together to start fantastic friendship, sisterhood even and it comes with a magical abilities. And, of course there’s a second chance in her love life or is it the real first?
Amazing storyline and well developed realistic characters, relationships and magic – what else do you need to get hooked in a wonderful book. Just give it a try!
This book was a delight to read. I admit, I wasn’t sure as this author is new to me and I thought the cover was kind of odd. I’m trying to read some of the books in the new Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre, so I picked this one up. And, dang! What a shocker in the first chapter! That hooked me in and I read the book through pretty quickly. I liked the main character, Lorna, and her friends Heather and Vivien. The story was not what I expected, but it was very good. I will definitely go on to the next book in the series.
Vermouth

Now you know the players but trouble is brewing when magic enters the game and so does danger. This story has it all magic, drama, mystery, spice, ghosts, danger, laughter, and so much more. Really Spooky! Second Chance At Life Unexpectedly!! A 3.5/4 Star Read

Second Chance Magic: Order of Magic #1
Lorna, along with her 3 now adult children, are at her husband’s funerals. She’s almost numb with shock. The kids are hurting badly. An extremely well dressed woman walks up to her next to the coffin & asks who she is & how she knew ‘her husband’? That s how they found out her husband, their father, was a bigamist!! His ‘true wife’ as she called herself, claimed everything, even their family home! They were left with nothing. Eventually, after suffering 3 years of humiliation she’s able to move away.
Lorna moves to a small coastal town where she lives & works in the Theatre. She becomes friends with Heather the owner. She’s got a bit of a crush on her brother, William. She then meets Vivian. It turns out she’s Heather’s bestfriend but Vivian informs her they’re all going to become great friends!! Lorna hopes so, she needs some. She doesn’t hear from anyone in her old life except her children, No one believed she couldn’t have known Glenn was already married. As if she’d have stuck around for 20yrs of mediocrity with him as a mistress!! She’s mortifyingly embarrassed by it all.
She’s excited & a little apprehensive when William invites her on a date. Both women encourage her to go for it! Strangely all three of them each found a ring in an odd place the night before, which looked old & dirty, once they placed it on their finger it appeared clean & shiny though. They all felt a tingling sensation coming from their rings & they can’t seem to remove them!! From here on out strange & at times scary things start to occur. Lorna is hurt by an entity, quite badly. They seem to have messed with forces they didn’t know enough about!!
This is a spooky read at times, I enjoyed that!! Each new friend has a grief they haven’t come to terms with. I felt for each of them. William was bullheaded about his family’s past & abilities, I wasn’t sure he’d be there for them!! This is definitely an interesting read!!

Life really can start over second chances are just around the corner and magic truly does exist if you believe… Seeing is believing right???
Lorna is widowed and then gut punched when she finds out what her late hubby was really up to their entire marriage, now she has packed up and moved far away from Vermont, her kids are all off doing their own thing and it’s time for Lorna to find her place and what a special place she finds…
I did love the descriptive writing in this story i really felt like I was in the old theater and it really was magical.
And Lorna’s new friends Heather and Vivian they are both gorgeous worries and i can’t wait for their stories either and then there is William, sweet, sweet William omg he and Lorna were just made for each other.
This was a sweet, emotional and sometimes terrifying read and i loved every page.
Overall rating: 3.8
The situations that brought the 3 female characters together were very original and tough ones. I enjoyed that the author made each one have their own unique personalities. Intertwining hidden magical abilities seemed a bit tough and a tad incomplete but I still followed along great. A love interest seemed also a bit too strong too soon but it is fiction and it happens in real life as well. This tale is easy to follow along and still entertaining. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
I’ve fallen under this books spell
I loved this story. I found it unique and enchanting and absolutely mesmerising. Not surprising considering it’s about magic. Loved the strong women and the fact that they are stronger together – the power of 3 works it’s magic.
Cannot wait for the other women to have their stories. I wonder what the universe has in store for Vivien and Heather.
I’m sure they will have their love and happily ever afters X they’ve gone through hell, they deserve heaven x
A gripping and very different scenario to start a book with.
I did enjoy this book, the magic, the mature characters, the heartache these three women have endured all drew me in.
I cannot say it will be a reread, as though entertaining, I felt it didn’t really go anywhere due to the short time frame and the closure with Glenn was slightly disappointing.
Lorna did well to get over what had been done to her. The embarrassment, shock, anger and plain disbelief for the situation she found herself and her children in, is not something I can even get my head around.
The romance side with William was sweet but due to the middle age factor of the characters, it seems obvious the Warrick family name will die out if neither he or his sister have any children.
I will be reading the next two books to see how this all plays out.
Read through Kindle Unlimited.
The first book in the Order of Magic a great start to this series. William Warrick and Lorna Addams’story about her starting over and finding a new love in her forties, and about doing something when she is drunk and should have left alone. I want to read the next book. I received an copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I loved the story. It creatively showed how the paranormal can be perceived by different people. I also loved that the main characters were older and had realistic pasts. Unfortunately for me I just didn’t connect with the characters as much as I would have liked to. It is definitely a fun read if you like the paranormal.
