This is an amazing book of a woman getting her life back and the. Loyalty of friends. Heart whrenching
Ever find one of those books that touch you heart and soul? Well this is it for me!
Lorna Addams was hit with a devastating secret betrayal while at her husbands funeral. One that changed her life completely.
Needing a new lease on life she starts over a town called Freewild Cove, North Carolina. A place where no one knows her or of her past.
She finds two women she grows fond of, Vivian and Heather. The three form a strong bond.
This is an amazing story of magic, friendship/sisterhood, family and magic. Three magic rings connect them all taking them on quite a ride.
This is part of a new series that takes us into the life of strong women over 40 years of age.
Age and experience kicks youth and fear of the unknown every time.
I can not wait for more, I have already pre ordered the next 2 books in this series!
This book had my complete attention from the very first chapter! It’s a great blend of real life and the paranormal. And above all else, this book shows that true friendship is the most powerful magic of all.
This is my first book by Michelle Pillows. I found her through the #PWF group.
While there was a bit of an unexpected twist to the beginning, the entire story was fantastic.
The characters were realistic & felt like they could have been the girls next door. I loved how their personalities came through.
This is a wonderful book about starting over & making second chances count. It’s about finding great friendships & believing in yourself.

What I want to be when I grow up
It’s great to read stories about middle aged women, these women know who they are & own up to their faults. It’s so funny to see them struggle with everyday life & come out the other side all the stronger. The comradery is absolutely natural, the experiences lifelike and the snark to die for, well, almost.
Last thing you think to find out at your husband’s funeral is that you were his second wife. Unfortunately, for Lorna that is exactly what happens and her entire world turns upside down. She loses everything and moves to Freewild Cove for a new start where no one knows her story. Three years go by and she finally feels like her life is back on track. Little does she know that her new journey is just beginning. She just made two new best friends and they each received a ring the same night Lorna and Vivien met each other. Ever since Lorna moved to Freewild Cove she has been attracted to William but she doesn’t trust her own judgement. One drunken night the new friends decide to test their new powers but it doesn’t go according to plan.
Michelle has created an amazing new world full of powerful women who are getting a second chance at life just after 40. This story is full of intrigue, heat and comedy. I could not put it down. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for Vivien and Heather in the series.
Wonderful start to a new “series”. Loved the characters and storyline. Can’t wait to read them all!
Lorna thought losing her husband was grief enough. Then she was made a laughingstock when it turns out her husband was a bigamist – and was the other woman! With her children starting college she moves to Freewild Cove to escape the gossip.
With a new job and flat over the cinema, it may not be much but it’s all she needs for now. She has made friends with her employer Heather and gets a bit tongue-tied over William, her boss’ brother. She is NOT going there no matter how hot he is. Then Heathers friend Viv crashes into her life and she now has more friends than she has ever had!
But just as she settles into her new life, she and her friends find mysterious rings and new magical talents and seem to have called on a very disgruntled and horrible late husband!
Just goes to show alcohol and magic should not mix LOL. I loved the slow burn to start with William. Never expected Mr Orderly to be oh so naughty! I loved the way they were all linked by loss of some sort and just helped each other through it – no backbiting, no malicious thoughts – just good will and a firm belief in each other.
What is in store for Viv and Heather???
I am so excited for these books! This was the first and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters and their story and cannot wait for the next one!
The character’s were so detailed that you felt you knew them personally. It sucked me in held on tight. I can’t wait for more!
Lorna Addams is a woman whose gone through a rough and humiliating time in her life, now she has moved on and found her way back to a little town called Freewild Cove, North Carolina that her family had stopped in on a vacation gone wrong years ago and she realizes this is where she wants to start her life over again. What she got she was certainly not expecting to find out that she has some special talents that she found in this town along with certain people like Heather, her friend Vivien and her brother Matthew have their own special favor in this mix of suspense, romantic comedy and action. The Story line is great and the characters are fascinating. Book 1 in series. I was given an ARC as a gift from the author without obligation. I am providing an honest review.

Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I loved this book in this new series. This idea that the Fab 13 authors decided to do by making books about women over the age of 40 is Brilliant. This book is fun, funny, magical and romantic. Each lady had had some loss and now they have come together by fate to help them move on and find happiness. There is a great friendship bond that comes together and also a romantic relationship. You will get a witchy side. It will be fun to see where these 3 ladies end up with friendship, love and magic.

I thought I had read this author before, but when I went looking, I actually hadn’t. I was excited then to read this. This book was a fun, exciting look into how a basically empty nester has to move on after a devastating secret comes out at her husband’s funeral. Add to that, Lorna also finds out she has magic. I am really in love with these books that have “older” main characters, and this is a great addition to that genre. Well-written, entertaining, and leaving me wanting more, I’ll definitely read the next books in the series. Give this a try; you won’t regret it! Highly recommend.
It was witty, funny, real, cute, beyond phenomenal. This book kept me wanting more and more. I couldn’t put it down. I was on the next page saying please one more chapter. The characters are relatable and caring. Everything I want in a best friend.
Pillow’s venture into the Mid-life Magic genre is exciting, full of surprises, and somehow comfortable, all at once. The story’s heroine, Lorna, has been through a lot, and her efforts to move on with her life after her husband’s death bring all new adventures – and, of course, magic. The friendship that develops between Lorna, Vivian and Heather is everything a woman could dream of. The support, understanding and real love between the three of them is heart-warming and soul-touching. I loved that Lorna actually felt like she was older, in her forties with some life behind her rather than in her twenties. The story wasn’t really involved with her being a mother, though her children were definite facts of life. Second Chance Magic is HER story, about her finding a new path to walk and a new twist in the road of her life – and all that is perfect. The magic is well-handled as well – seances, ghosts, mysterious powers that each woman has. I really got an old-time Charmed vibe from the story – in all the goods ways. Second Chance Magic is a well-written, enjoyable adventure with a hint of romance and a lot of camaraderie and friendship, and is a great addition to the mid-life magical adventure genre. Bravo for a story that reminds all us ‘not so young’ readers that life often gives gifts we never expect, and that even the really crappy moments can be followed by blessings you never expected.

Love this book as it looks at women who are older and have experienced a lot of ups and downs in their lives. Lorna is a widow who was surprised at her husbands funeral. A few years later, she is getting her life back together and moves to a small town. She gains two new friends, Vivian and Heather, and they start to experience magic via three rings they received and more, while William (a brother) sets his sights of Lorna.
The characters are lovable, open, honest and turn into great friends. The storyline is well written, with plenty of drama, great banter, chemistry, surprises, twists, magic and so much more. Loved the trio, the hijinks, feeling free and the bond that grew. Great ending.

I loved this book. It makes a refreshing change to read about women 40+. This is the first in a series about three women Lorna, Vivien and Heather who find that they have magical abilities. Lorna’s story is the first and it is not until the death of her husband Glenn that she finds her marriage of twenty years was fake as he was already married. Bruised and battered she moves to Freecove to manage a theatre owned by Heather. She finds herself drawn to Heather’s brother William but can she really herself up again? One day she hears Heather talking to her grandmother Julia in the theatre. But the thing is Julia is dead! There are plenty of twists and turns in this enthralling paranormal romance as the three friends fight ghosts and demons before Lorna and William find their HEA. Can’t wait for the next story.
