From the #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Susan Mallery, read the second irresistible installment in the Happily Inc series! Mathias Mitchell’s easy smile hides a world of hurt. After the worst kind of family betrayal, he moves to Happily Inc., California–the wedding destination town supplies a steady stream of bridesmaids, perfect for his “no promises, no pain” lifestyle. Yet he can’t stop … can’t stop watching for his beautiful, elusive neighbor on the animal preserve behind their homes.
Gamekeeper Carol Lund knows she’s not special enough to attract an alpha male like Mathias, so his offer to help her adopt a herd for her lonely giraffe is surprising–and his determined seduction, even more so. But just as she finally welcomes him into her bed, his careless actions crush her heart. Will she give him a second chance to prove she’ll always come first in his heart?
Don’t miss You Say It First, the first book in the Happily Inc series.

I enjoyed reading the book.
This was the second book in the new series of Happily Inc. I loved Susan Mallery’s Fool’s Gold books and this series is starting off to be another wonderful quirky town. While I do not see a lot of differences in the women or men characters, except their occupations, I am hoping as the series grows the characters will speak in more unique different voices. For now, getting my feet wet in this new series, I am enjoying the experience.
Susan is a gifted writer and brings many emotions out in the reader as you explore her stories. As I said, most of the characters don’t stand out to me, but two definite do in the “love” emotion and two in the “really dislike” emotion.
I loved the story and characters of Ulrich and Violet. I totally dislike the characters of Ceallach and Elaine. I hope in future books I come to understand them better or hopefully they change to be better people. I don’t know if that will help all the wrong they have already done in their lives, but maybe they can mend the relationships with their children.
Loved this book as the same as all of Susan mallerys, books. Great read
Loved it as all her book
One of my favorite authors. She never lets me down.
Mathias isn’t looking for a lasting relationship, he’s more the love ’em and leave ’em kind of guy. With past family relationships turning sour he doesn’t believe in true love. Enter Carol Lund, Carol is the local gamekeeper and his property is right next to the wildlife refuge where Carol works. Carol has been attracted to Mathias for a while but doesn’t feel that she is worthy of his love. Both have wants and needs but neither know how to dive right in and take them. Follow along as Carol and Mathias work through their insecurities, find a lonely giraffe some friends, and figure out just what love truly means. This was an enticing read with characters that had me laughing one minute and bawling the next. You can’t help but fall in love with this quaint town and it’s residents and all it has to offer. I’m already excited for the next story in this fairy tale town.
I received and ARC of this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
From puppy love thru teenage crush to adult frustration, there is one major commonality. Heartbreak. Opening up to that chance of forever, only to discover that hope has turned to never. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Perhaps that’s why Carol and Mathias are easy to identify with. A piece of ourselves shines through in every scenario. Self -doubt, sadness and a little bit of hopeful fantasy guides readers through a romance that is uniquely sweet and irresistible to the hidden romantic in us all. Carol is a woman with a ton of baggage but a huge amount of heart. She showers love on the animals she welcomes into her home, but wishes for someone to call her own. Mathias is a man that sees beauty, where others don’t bother to look. He creates beauty using his mind, his heart and his hands. Can he allow his creative optimism to guide him in matters of the heart? Second Chance Girl begins as a long range dream and quickly becomes a tale of understated beauty and courageous second chances. What dreams are made of. The ability to hope.
Aww the second installment to this new Happily Inc series was really cute. It was kind of a friends to lover story with Carol and Mathias being neighbors and from there a close friendship was born and then finally the romance. Although it did take them a while to get romantically involved their story was more sweet and emotionally filled than the first book in the series. And as a bonus, there’s a secondary love story in this book between Carol’s sister, Violet and a duke! Yes, I did say a duke. Their first meeting was really fun and I loved how their relationship developed too. Overall a very swoony and lovely story that I found very enjoyable. Can’t wait to read more about the Mitchell brothers and everyone else at Happily Inc.
