Single mom Beth Carlson wasn’t thrilled with her new neighbor Clay Reynolds and his motorcycle. They only served to remind her of the past she wanted to forget. Her focus was on her teenage son and getting her teaching degree, so she didn’t have time for romance. Clay wasn’t interested in putting down roots or living in a small town. He was only in Pinecrest for a few months to help out a friend, … help out a friend, but a troubled teenage boy and his pretty mom made Clay question those choices.
But Beth can’t trust a temporary guy, and Clay can’t fall for a woman who didn’t share his faith. What will it take to bring them the gift of love?
This contemporary Christian romance is the second book in the Pinecrest series. Look for book 1, Second Chance Love.

I love these Christian based books and this one did not disappoint. I loved this story about Beth, a single mom with a teenage son, Max. Beth had a troubled past and due to circumstances her parents did not want anything more to do with her. Her neighbor, Clay, reminds her of bad things from her past like motorcycles and just another cute guy thinking he can get what he wants. Clay is in town only temporarily so he is not interested in letting his heart have any feelings for Beth. She seems to shun him every time he tries to be nice to her. Clay is a lawyer and very much into his faith. He can see where Beth has strayed away from God and what can he do to make her believe again. Clay and Max get along but Clay covers up something Max did and when Beth finds out she is not happy. Beth needed to learn how to forgive her past and move forward and regain her faith in God. You will have to read this great story to see if Clay is able to get her back on the right track. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Beth Carlson is a young single mom with a 15 year old son Max and is not happy when Clay Reynolds, a long haired motorcycle riding man moves in the upstairs apartment! Beth is a hard worker who is doing her best to guide Max to not make the same mistakes she did as a teenager. Clay gets Max involved with the youth at his church but Beth wants no part of God. Beth was hurt by so called Christians when she became pregnant as a teen. The attraction between Clay and Beth is strong but he knows they have no future unless she turns back to God. I enjoyed Second Chance Gift and recommend it to others. I received a complimentary ebook from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Second Chance Gift is from the second installment from the Pinecrest series by Merrillee Whren. I enjoyed and loved the first book, Second Chance Love. So, I was excited to have the opportunity to read this one. I was not disappointed. I loved this sweet, heartwarming and quick read. I was entertained with Beth and Clay’s story from the start. I thought it was beautiful and inspirational.
I am giving Second Chance Gift five stars. I look forward to see what happens next in the Pinecrest series.
I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Raising a teenager can have ups and downs. This story of a single mom trying to provide the best life for her son and herself is filled with learning experiences, the possibility of love and finding faith. Instead of focusing on the past, Beth tries to look forward to the future. I enjoyed this story. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
Beth doesn’t like motorcycles. She also doesn’t like the type of guy that rides them! Wouldn’t you know the guy who rents the apartment above her is THAT guy? She doesn’t know how she’s going to deal with that. It will be a constant reminder of her past and she left that piece of her a long time and doesn’t want to go through it again although looking at her son every day is always a reminder. Raising a teenage son by herself is hard but she loves Max so much that even her estrangement from her parents for the last 15 years has been worth it. However, now that Clay lives upstairs? What is she going to do? Clay not only rides a motorcycles, he’s a strong Christian and that is just something she also left behind! I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Raising teenagers is very hard in today’s world. Beth is trying so much to teach him so he doesn’t make her mistakes! Clay wants to help but she is shunning him at every opportunity. He just doesn’t understand it. He’s a good person and Max seems to like him. I really liked the way these characters evolved over time!
Loved this book!
This a a clean Christian ! About a single mom struggling to regain her faith and raise a teenage son.
A very nice story about letting go of past mistakes and guilt. About letting people into your life and giving your life and sins to God. About trust and finding love. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
“Second Chance Gift” by Merrillee Whren
This is a sweet contemporary romance. And neither the she, nor the he side seems to want this second chance at the gift of love. Fear and one’s past can serve to be quite the boundaries for current and future relationships with friends, acquaintances or loves. An easy read that will keep you turning the pages, at least it did for me. Happy Reading ! !
Note: I received an ARC of this story from the author with the request that I write a review when completed.
A sweet story of faith and forgiveness
My rating is 3.5 stars
Second Chance Love is a sweet story of faith and forgiveness.
Beth’s parents and the congregation at their church had hurt her when she was a teen and rebelled against them. Despite turning her back on God, she still had strong moral values that she tried to pass on to her son. The pain and the guilt she still carried caused her to keep everyone at arm’s length and not let them get close to her. Until Clay…
Clay had a big secret he was keeping from Beth. He thought he was helping but when it came out, she was convinced this justified keeping her distance.
Clay and the others in town shared their faith with Beth in a non-threatening, non-judgmental manner and the story was not preachy at all. The ending was quite touching!
Emotions that Beth and Clay struggled with were mentioned more times than I felt necessary. They were “told” much more than shown and it caused the story drag a little. Moreover, I was shocked that Clay would have taken it on himself to know what was best for another person’s child! While he did end up apologizing for it, it did seem more like it was because it upset Beth rather than because he realized it was actually wrong.
Though part of a series that carries characters from one book to the next, Second Chance Love stands alone. If you enjoy romance with a faith element, this would make a nice addition to your library.
