This book kept me on the edge of my seat. The way Raina and Miles were together as friends as kids and then separated them, pained them both. To think both loved each other. But with everything that gone on while Miles was gone had an effect on Raina and the twins. Loved the drama after he returned and did not give up.
If you love romance with some roadblocks in it then you can read this book.

Miles and Raina grew up together and as they got older their feeling grew too. What these two didn’t know was that both their father’s were dealing drugs. But one day Miles just left without telling anyone only for Raina to find out he joined the Marines. But did not tell her or leave her a note – nothing. Being hurt, Raina knows she has to go on without him. So 12 years later, Raina is now a teacher and looking after her two siblings. Her father was killed so she was left to take care of her brother and sister. When she sees Miles she wants nothing to do with him since when his family got out of the drug business, it left her father vulnerable and that is how he was killed. And Miles acts like she should be happy to see him. Miles came back since his father is dying and his father requested that Miles check up on Raina. When he finds out what happened he feels bad for Raina. Now Miles has to work on getting Raina back but he also needs to protect her from someone. Yet Raina still has feelings for Miles but isn’t sure she can forgive him for leaving her like he did. Good heartbreaking story with a bit of mystery. Very enjoyable.

The Dentons aren’t done yet. Miles is back after 12 years, he has finally returned to stay. Raina has loved Miles since she was 8 years old, however, when he left her upon turning 18, (& she 16) he shattered her heart. As much as she longed to hear from him, he never once reached out. After a devastating blow to her family, Raina stayed on the South side raising her twin siblings and teaching her students. As time passes, Raina continues to live her life, so hearing Miles has returned, just brings back all her pain, love as well as emotional turmoil. Little did she know that Miles has always loved her, although he never acted on it or told her.
When Miles tries to reconnect with Raina, it goes about as good as you’d think it would. These two are meant for each other but can they ever share what is in their heart? With all of the drama, can they finally get their happily ever after? This was an amazing book.
I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader’s copy of Second Chance Ex-Marine in exchange for my honest/voluntarily given opinion and I highly recommend reading this book as well as anything written by Ms. Hart.
Second Chance at Love
A good story about Raina & Miles trying to figure out whether there is a second chance at love between them. There is the gap of 12 years of not keeping in contact with each other. Now that he’s completed his tours as a Marine, he returns to see if there is a spark with Raina & if they can go the next level & be more than friends while growing up. I felt the story was slow in capturing my interest but on the plus side, they do have a HEA & put the past behind them.

This story has struggle, love that has been building for years, suspense, lust, and a happily ever after. I loved the characters and how real they were. Suzanne Hart is one of my favorite authors and I will continue to read her books every time she has a new release!!
When circumstances happen out of their control, more emotions fly and come to the surface. What happens is beautiful and tough all at the same time. This book shows love truly is a beautiful thing!!

Second Chance Ex-marine (is there such a thing as an ex-marine?) is the story of Miles Denton and Raina Jones. Miles has returned to Chicago after twelve years as a Marine and is still holding on to his anger toward his father. Raina, Miles’s childhood friend, has her own reasons for hating the Denton family. When Miles contacts Raina, their reunion is anything but pleasant. There are numerous obstacles that prevent a relationship from blossoming, but the root cause of dissension is the early illegal activities of Miles’s father. The author has written an exceptional book. She incorporates romance, a few steamy sex scenes, with a touch of suspense in this full-length novel. Although this is a complete book with an HEA ending, the author lays the groundwork for Sadie’s story. Stay tuned. It is a sure bet that the next book will be explosive!
This is Raina and Miles’ story. It was a wonderful, sensitive, long-suffering but engrossing, happily ever after story. They met when Raina was 8yrs and Miles was 10yrs old. She always thought the world of Miles and Miles would open up and talk to Raina. Their Dad’s were in an illegal business together with Miles Dad being the boss. A lot happens in their teenage years and he leaves home when he turns 18yrs to become a Marine. Fast forward 12 yrs. The past is still haunting them and he gets back in touch with Raina. Secrets are revealed, misunderstandings abound and even a not obviously-crazy teacher is in the mix. This was an exciting, intense read with a few tear-jerk moments! Loved it!

I am so glad that Miles and Raina got their happily ever after because they both deserved it. Raina was such a strong person to take care of her siblings after her dad died. Miles went through a lot because of what he knew about his dad. I am glad in the end they were able to look past everything and be together.

This book is an enthralling fast pace second chance romance that is well written and will keep you on the edge of your seat from all the excitement, in anticipation of what is to come next. The plot is consistent and flows smoothly. It is action-packed, full of drama, humour, and intrigue. The characters are strong and likeable; their chemistry is sizzling hot and off the charts. The ideas are well-developed and there is a great pace from scene to scene. A truly fantastic read and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. Definitely recommended!

Heart-wrenching and heartwarming, you’ll shake your Kindle a few times
The book starts off a little slow but it’s enticing enough to not want to put it down. My jaw dropped when I found out the reason why Raina was so angry at the Denton’s, especially Miles and it was totally justified. They had been childhood best friends and when adolescence hit, they discovered that they felt more for each other, and then Miles left without a goodbye.
Raina is one of those heroines that’s tougher than she initially appears. With their parent’s gone, she’d raised both her siblings and had put her love life on hold, and so had Miles. I hated the fact that Raina couldn’t seem to catch a break when it came to the Denton’s. Secondary character “creepy Tony” is fascinating.
Awesome second chance story and HEA. Miles and Raina’s resilience is nothing short of astounding. They belonged together and deserved an amazing future. Loved it!

You will not help but fall in love with Miles as well as it was not his fault he dealt with a dad like his but the way he decided to reinvent himself might have been a tad selfish, but he did it for the right reasons.
I like Miles character as it is not your typical silver spoon boy more like a man trying to learn the etiquette of society.
Mr. Denton senior is clearly a piece of work, pulling string even to the very end. One wonders why he waited this long to reach out to Raina?
Heart-breaking story that will have you going through several emotions.

I loved the chemistry between Miles and Raina! Going through all the twists and turns kept me spellbound!! Definitely a must read!!
A really good book, very well written. I genuinely think that you will enjoy reading it.
Angst riddled second chance makes for a sweet relief HEA
Second Chance Ex-Marine by Suzanne Hart is another well written book in her Turning Good Series. This third book is a long time coming second chance for the characters in this one. Miles and Raina so right for each other, but take a long time, with lots of stubbornness and anger (sometimes misplaced) keeping them apart.
The author clearly demonstrates how they truly belong together if only they would get out of their own way and make it happen! The angst in this one is exceptional!
Overall, a well written book that I really enjoyed a great deal. The HEA is sweet relief for the characters as well as the reader, such joy! And, I’m really hoping for Book Four, and maybe a Book Five and Six?
Miles and Raina grew up in the same neighborhood. Their fathers were friends and business associates. When Raina’s mother dies, she begins spending time with Miles and his family. His mother is like a second mother to her. Miles and Raina spend a lot of time together through their young life and into their teens. Suddenly on his 18th birthday Miles leaves without saying anything to Raina. Even his brothers don’t know where he is until days later, when he calls one of them. Fast forward twelve years and he returns after a stint in the Marines. He has a plan for his future but he wants to be as far from his father, who is dying, as he can be. He crosses paths with Raina and learns that her father was killed because of his job, which changed after Miles’ father moved to the other side of town, leaving Raina’s dad to clean up the mess. So Raina is hurt and angry with Miles and his family and Miles feels guilty about leaving Raina. He thought he was doing what was best for her at the time. But she is stuck raising her half brother and sister since her father died and trying to make a life for herself. Miles can’t help himself. He still has feelings for her and she realizes she still has feelings for him. But can they overcome the history and bad blood between them? Can Miles keep her safe from the man who is stalking her? Thrilling and fast moving.

Raina and Miles were childhood friends and after Miles mother committed suicide everything changed. After Miles left for the Marines and then coming back after 12 years of being gone Raina isn’t too happy to see Miles. Miles decides to become a stalker and Raina sees him again and decides enough is enough. Raina tries to move forward in her life but Miles is never to far in her thoughts and Miles decides to get the business going with his best friend from the Marines. Will these two let the past in the past where it belongs and get the HEA they both deserve?
