I just adored this book. It’s an over 40 romance that will capture your heart from the very start. Mati grew up with two best friends, Chris and Denton. Mati ended up marrying Chris and having twin boys while Denton went on to become a famous rock star and model. When the story starts Chris has died and been gone for a year. While finally cleaning out his office, Mati finds two sealed envelopes from Chris, one addressed to her, one addressed to Denton. In her’s Chris reminds her of their promise to each other that if something happens to one of them, the other would go on and enjoy life and then he asks her to reach out to Denton, to not be stubborn and for once do as he asks.
Denton gets word his mother is dying and heads home, a place he hasn’t been to in years, as he just couldn’t handle running into Chris and Mati, even though they were always in his heart, especially Mati, he’s never quit loving and longing for her. What happens when Mati and Denton meet after almost 20 years? To say is was electric would be wrong yet so right.
This is an amazing storyline about love, regrets, passion, chances, hopes, dreams and just so much more. The author has done an amazing job and has given us a very well written book. I can’t begin to express the feels this book will give you, not only between Denton and Mati but between them and their families, friends and the small town folks. I offer the author Kudos for a job very well done and to my fellow readers I highly recommend reading “Second Chance”, you won’t regret it. 2 Thumbs up and 5 Amazing stars for this must read.
5 “See Me” Stars
LB Dunbar you have the key to my over forty heart and give me hope that love is still out there somewhere. I’m always a sucker for second chance romance, and this one stole my heart. Denton and Mati go way back and it’s obvious the chemistry between them is still there. This story is beautifully written, even heartbreaking at times, and I found myself easily in Mati’s shoes. It’s refreshing to read these older, more mature characters and so very relatable for me. Another great story in the over forty world for LB Dunbar.

Every book in L.B. Dunbar’s over forty series has featured a gorgeous and unique silver fox and I have loved each of them but Denton is my favorite. Mati and Denton have a history. They have a strong bond from childhood, they had plans. I loved this story, they each had a life he was a rock star, a model, and a photographer, she was a wife, a mother, helped run a family business and coached high school kids. The reunion was decades in the making and the feelings were still there. The story is so great, dealing with death, the past, her kids and their families. I loved the characters they are well-written and I feel like I know them, I was right there with them through this whole book. I Loved It!!
I don’t know how L.B. Dunbar does it but each book just gets better and better! I just knew when I picked this book up to start reading I would not be putting it down until I finished. And I didn’t, this book was just wonderful. My heart broke for both Denton and Mati because of everything they went through and everything they had to go through to find their way back to each other.
I love these over 40 books and I will keep on buying them as fast as they are released. I would highly recommend this book for people to read, you will not be disappointed!
SECOND CHANCE by L.B. Dunbar is the story of Denton Chance and Mati Rath. Denton, Mati and Chris were all best friends. But when graduation came Mati feelings was torn between the two men but then Denton up and left to peruse a career that took him away from them. Now all these years later, Mati is a widow after Chris dies but he left a something for Denton. So Mati goes forward to make contact with him and they both find that their feelings are still there…if not stronger.
Loved this second changes at love with the older couple ( in their 40’s).
This phenomenal series about the over 40’s by this talented author, is a unique and refreshing change for the romance world. Mati and Denton were best friends in childhood, but have been separated for the past 27 years, in which time Denton has never returned to his hometown. When he received a phone call about a tragedy, he returns home. No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is a beautifully written story which is filled with angst, doubts, regrets, secrets, heartbreak, and is an emotional and heart-warming read. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this author, whose work I highly recommend for all.
In this book, we have Denton, who was best friends with Mati, & Chris. Mati, Chris and Denton have been friends since childhood. But the last 27 years they were separated ways. Denton left to become a rock star, Mati and Chris started a family together. Mati loved Chris, who died a year ago, with all of her heart, but she also loved Denton in another way. She never understood why he left without looking back. But now he’s back and Mati is confused. Her feelings for Denton are as strong as 27 years ago – and Denton never stopped loving her.
Mati stayed in their small town, becoming the local girls high school volleyball coach, and also works at the local brew pub, her family owns. Chris became a lawyer, where he and Mati stayed in the small town they grew up in and raised their family.
After high school graduation Denton left ad never looked back, going after his dream of becoming a rock star. 27 yrs later he is back in the small town, to see his mother before she passes. Denton isn’t sure about being back in their small town. He has all the memories of when he was there before. Most things have stayed the same, some changes, but, not many. When his best friend Chris past away last year, he didn’t go home for the funeral. He couldn’t bare to see Mati and the pain she would be in.
Now that Denton is back around Mati his feelings and longing for Mati have returned. Will he be able to get the girl this time? Or is Mati still hurt from losing Chris a year ago? Will Mati be able to move on with her life?
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.
I SEE YOU — SEE ME! — I absolutely loved this second chance romance about people who are no longer in their teens but who have unresolved issues from those days. Denton and Mati were the best of friends along with Mati’s husband. The three amigos…they did everything together…until feelings changed. The death of Mati’s husband and the failing health of Denton’s mother bring them back together in the same town after nearly 30 years. There are secrets, there are deep hidden feelings, there are so many unresolved issues both with them and all around them. Can Mati allow herself to fall again for the boy who unknowingly broke her heart so badly all those years ago? LB writes a story that had me completely engaged from beginning to end with some of the sexiest scenes that I have read that weren’t completely graphic in nature (and hello…I DO love the graphic too). Until now, Hank had been my favorite silver fox but suddenly Denton has won me over and I challenge anyone to take him away from me….I’m serious LOL.
This is a story of friendship, love and unspoken feelings that change the paths of Mati, Chris and Denton. Chris was the new kid in town and became friends with Denton who was the son of the towns Mayer. Soon after the three became friends, Mati was the rock for both Chris and Denton and they took care of each other. After Chris’s parents passed away in high school, Denton took him to stay at his grand mothers house. Then things changed for the three musketeers, Denton left for California without taking Mati on the road trip they had planed to take after graduation. Mati and Chris got married but their very best did not return. Now years have passed, Mati found a letter from her late husband requested that she contact their best friend Denton and love again. Denton is on his was back home when he gets a message on his Facebook page from Mati asking for his address so she can send him a letter Chis had left for him. There are so many twist and turns and surprises around every corner. Find out if they both grab on to this second chance. Thank you L. B. Dunbar for another great romance for over 40. Love those Silver Foxes
Second Chance is a sweet over 40 romance and I enjoyed it very much. This was a story about love then loss then love again. The story was full of secrets and truths being revealed. Our main characters were complex well developed individuals and they were supported by a wonderful cast of secondary characters. The story was filled with emotion and you will experience every one of them. Told in dual POV, this slow burn story was given to us in present day with snippets from the past. This was a great read and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of second chance romance.
Are second chances worth taking? That’s the question on Denton and Mati’s minds when they have the opportunity to take back what they once had. There is a ton of history that has piled up in the twenty seven years since they last saw each other. Denton left to pursue his music career and Mati stayed right where she was. But, aside from the past, there are secrets that they are holding close to their hearts, secrets that could bring them together or push them further apart.
Mati and Denton’s attraction is undeniable. It’s a palpable thing that I felt even through my kindle. Their chemistry burned off the pages and held me captive with the desire to see them as a complete unit. Can they find the way through all the misunderstandings and mistakes of the past?
This ‘silver fox; story was both heartwarming and heartbreaking at times, the emotional tensions built the angst high and kept me glues to the very end.
I adore this over 40 series by LB. Mati Harrington just lost her husband and Chris’ dying declaration is for her to call Denton. The three of them had been friends since they were young but Denton left and became a rockstar.
Denton heads home because his mother is dying. But now secrets are revealed, Denton doesn’t want to stay, Mati has to learn to let go and live her life but there are so many feelings now involved.
Seldom in life do you get second chances at love. They were inseparable – Chris, Mati, and Denton. They had dreams to travel, college, and more! Only one problem. When two guys fall for their best friend who wins?
Denton went on to become a rock star, model, photographer and more. Yet, at age forty-four, he is lonely and tired of all the glitz and blitz.
Mati has just lost Chris. They had a happy marriage and two sons who filled her life. Yet now at forty-four and no partner, she is lonely and still dreaming of all the things she wanted to do with her life and never could. She got pregnant right out of high school and married Chris. The twins took over her life, and now that they are grown and gone from the nest, without Chris her life is very empty.
This book will take you through the journey of looking back to the life our characters have lived through the twenty-seven years they have been apart. It is a time of reflection, a good look at what they have accomplished with their lives, and the realization they still have a good portion of life left to fulfill all those unrealized dreams. Poignant, endearing and very steamy, this is a book you cannot miss!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
I’m totally head over heels in love with all of L.B. Dunbar’s “over forty” real life romance stories but Second Chance just took over first place in my heart. Mati and Denton’s journey to each other tore at my heartstrings, had me questioning my feelings towards certain characters while my love for others continued to strengthen. The path that Mati and Denton took may have been unfair and not exactly voluntary, but had they not taken it, they wouldn’t be where they are today, so it couldn’t have been any other way.
This second chance romance really resonated with me. I related to Mati and know just how easy it is to step back into love as if no time has passed at all. The clock may tick but the heart and mind remembers like it was yesterday. Moving forward after death isn’t easy, but Mati found a way to both move forward while also going backwards to finish what she started many years ago.
Second Chance has earned 5 Spicy and Sexy Silver Fox Stars from me and I can’t wait for more stories in the “over forty” genre. When you are an “over forty” reader, these sexy silver-fox reads are exactly what’s needed to spice up your life and set you aflame.
Sometimes my friends ask me if I get bored reading romance books all the time. I don’t because there are so many kinds of books out there. Second Chance by L.B.Dunbar is a perfect example of the variety. This is hard core romance yet so different in story telling and plots. You have to read this book to know the difference.
Denton Chance. Small town boy-turned to rockstar-playboy. Mati Rathstone aka Harrington. Old best friend-crush-best friend’s widow-volleyball coach. They got separated years back and on a bitter note of heartbreak and broken promises. Now they have a second chance at age beyond 40. But can they take it? So many factors are holding them back and ruining this chance. Their worlds have changed and so have they.
I was just mesmerized by the story. I have a weakness for small town romance. And this story was a welcome break from young romance we read. The man and the lady are older, more mature and more grounded with real complications. I am so in love with Denton. He has so many troubles and burden of guilt behind his rockstar-model-photographer-celebrity persona. Mati is a strong, caring and sensitive woman who is lonely with all her responsibilities and adulting. She has an excellent support system from her brothers and sons. But she craves the intimacy and warmth of having a man in her life. And the history between them makes everything more complex. The author explored their struggles, hesitation and emotions expertly. My heart was crying when I read all the love, passion and heartbreak. They are like the epic starcrossed lovers and I am so glad they got their chance. They deserve it so much. True love and friendship never die. They just had to take a long detour to each other’s heart. After all love doesn’t care about age!
Come and join the enticing journey of two childhood sweethearts and best friends as they go through all the trials and troubles to find the happiest ending ever. A love story so sweet, so nostalgic and so intense. L.B.Dunbar has done an excellent job with Second Chance. Read it if you believe in taking chance with love.
If you have not read any of LB Dunbar’s A Romance for the Over 40 series, you need to read Second Chance!!! L.B. Dunbar writes over 40 books like no other. They are realistic, they will gut you, the slow burn will have you squirming, but most of all the characters will stay with you for months if not years.
Seriously ya’ll the Sexy Silver Fox in the book will have you swooning!! Hello Denton Chance, you sexy misunderstood devil you. He is smokin’ hot and knows just what his girl needs!
Denton Chance and Mati Harrington along with Mati’s late husband Chris were inseparable as kids. That is until Denton moved back form Cali after 27 years.
This story had me glued to the pages. I needed to know what happened to Denton for him to leave Mati in the first place. He loved her so much and just left her behind. What I realized is this story had many layers we had to peel back to get to the truth for Mati and Denton to finally see each other and understand what all happened.
Denton helped Mati find the woman she was deep down inside, and Mati helped Denton with his demons as well. I really enjoyed this love story.
Is it time for Mati and Denton to have their chance at love? Even though they haven’t spoke in over 25 years they still remember when….They remember the good times that all three of them had. Mati, Denton and Chris. Three best friends that did almost everything together.
I absolutely love how I’m pulled into the story from the very beginning. The author has a way to make you feel you’re a part of the story. That you’re right there cheering the characters on. Trying to nudge them in the direction that they should be going. To let the small things go and embrace what they could have.
These two have chemistry, they’ve always had it and it’s really getting hot now that they’re older. I love how Denton wants to make sure that Mati sees him. *sigh* (You’ll know what I mean when you read it.)
I love this series!!!
4.5 stars
What a story! What a conundrum! Once best friends as young kids Denton and Mati see each other again after so much time has passed. Needless to say secrets abound, truths revealed. A long lost love returned??
So many feels, so much anger at what could have been. I think what I liked most about this story was how real the characters were, how emotional every one was in certain moments.
I really liked both Mati and Denton, their connection to the past, their staying for the moment in the right now. Family, best friends that once was and loss all come into play.
This was a long book but it had so much feel about it that once I started I couldn’t stop reading. I felt like I was in the town watching everything go on as if I was a fly on the wall. Needless to say the drama, the love and sense of family support really worked well. I enjoyed the storyline and especially loved it how it ended.
Over 40’s romance that makes your heart feel full and your soul happy at the outcome that should have always been!!
Kudos to the author for writing this book!
Ahh I am so in love with this story! There were so many different aspects to it but when you put them all together they fit perfectly like puzzle pieces. I’m a hopeless romantic so I love a good second chance romance! The push and pull between Denton and Mati was fantastic and gave a ton of sexual buildup to the storyline. I always want to root for the underdog so I kept holding out that Denton would stop screwing it up and win the girl!
I loved the side characters too! The story wouldn’t have been the same without them!
I am declaring L.B. Dunbar the “Queen of Over 40 Romance”!! I just have to get a tiara and sash worthy of her!
Second Chance is a story in the Sexy Silver Foxes series.
“See me…” This quote was my undoing, this broke my heart and made me weep. It’s beautiful in it’s simplicity, and seemed like an unattainable goal….
This story of Mati and Denton is absolutely breathtaking. A slow burn that will make you want to jump in the flames and embrace it.
Their story spans decades. Their story is one that is going to follow me for a long, long time.
You can feel the unresolved issues between Mati and Denton. You feel the chemistry that has remained between them for years. The reunion of Mati and Denton is just swoon…I can’t describe the magic of Ms. Dunbar’s words in this story
You get to see past characters from her other Sexy Silver Foxes books, it was fantastic to “catch up” with them. Ms. Dunbar also introduced us to a new cast of characters that will hopefully get their own stories in the future! (Fingers crossed!!)
When reading this story, your heart is gonna break, but don’t worry, Ms. Dunbar is going to take your broken pieces and put them back together in a new and lovely way. Love is never lost, sometimes it just takes a bit of a road trip…
