We meet every other Wednesday night in a downtown hotel. No dates. No commitments. No hearts or flowers. Just his body and mine.Maybe I’m his second best. He’s definitely mine. But second best has never felt so good.Second Best is a steamy, standalone contemporary romance.
I loved how this couple set up their relationship. Every two weeks they met and set fire to the sheets (and my Kindle). Neither wants anything more than a hot time. Sean lost his fiancee two years ago and Ashley is in love with a coworker. A casual hookup is just what they want.
I couldn’t help but giggle every time Sean would call Ashley’s dream man “the jack–s”. His reactions to all things regarding him gave a good indication of where his feelings were where she was concerned. That jealous streak was apparent to me, making me giddy with delight. That type of behavior is my catnip.
I appreciated the fact that Ashley didn’t play games when it came to a decision she had to make about Sean and their Wednesdays. She was pretty feisty and certainly took some opportunities to torture him a bit, but overall, she was a great heroine to this hero.
This was low on drama, high on steam, and perfect on romance.
I really liked this book and will definitely be looking for more books by this author
One of the best I’ve read so far this year, couldn’t put it down ’til the end.
Second Best is a feel-good, somewhat steamy, albeit fairly predictable (that’s not necessarily a bad thing!) book that follows the “rich, hot, tortured soul hero and the ‘plain girl’ heroine who thinks she’s ‘just ok’ even though she’s a total knockout” trope, but these characters were relatable and flawed, just the rest of us, and the story focused on their hearts (and bodies ), and really drew you in to their world. I loved it, and I’ve read it twice already!
What a well crafted story!
I love all of Noelle Adams books. As soon as I see a new one, I can’t wait to read it.
I am a sucker for good romance. Second best is a cute title for this story.
4.75 Stars. I was honestly surprised how much I liked this book. I pretty much knew going into this book how it would play out— fun sex with no strings, that leads to drama, deniability, commitment phobia, heartache, and finally an over the top gesture for a HEA. There was a little of that, but there depth and insight to these characters kept this story real, raw, and emotional.
Two people that barely know each other agree to a sexual arrangement with no-strings attached. Sean is still grieving the murder of his fiancé and Ash is hung-up on her very attractive co-worker. The arrangement works for them both.
Every other Wednesday they tear up the sheets in an up-scale hotel, dine on steak and cupcakes, share interesting conversations, and then part to go their separate ways. It’s perfect until it’s not. They have a mutual respect, friendship, and sex that is off the chart, however what they don’t have is a true relationship. Their undeniable connection is real, but is it enough.
The author had me invested in Sean and Ash’s unconventional arrangement. It was one of those books that kept me up well past my bedtime.
Ok read
I rarely rate books 5 stars. But I enjoyed it. Looked to find other books she wrote. Ending was a surprise. Didn’t know it was a romantic thriller. Read it very quickly as a result. Characters are written well enough that you care about them & everyone around them. I felt the love between the characters before they did. Good ending.
Feel good read.
Noelle Adams always writes stories that grab your interest and make you want to read the story all over again.
Fun little read
I was sitting on the edge of my chair.
The characters in this book are well-developed, the sex scenes erotic and the ending was fulfilling and not drawn out. It is definitively worth your $ and time if you like steamy romances. I liked it so much that I bought another from this author.
Great read!
Easy reading., be prepared to not know the ending.
I really liked the story line – I thought it was creative. I liked the connection between the main characters and the character development. It seemed realistic.
Loved it!
Fun sweet story.
