We finally get to meet Kaden’s mystery girlfriend!
Hockey player Kaden Westbrook knew that his friends thought he was dating a married woman because they never met her. Kaden knew that something was up because Lanie never wanted any pictures taken of them, but he realized how little he knew about her when he went to hired someone to find her. Delaney (Lanie) is on the run because her former boyfriend that she testified against was released from prison on a technicality and some of the other witnesses are either dead or missing. Does Kaden let her go or does he still hope to see her again?
Playmaker is a fun romance with suspense about Lanie with very little hockey because most of the book is set during the offseason when the players are on vacation. Now I want to know more about Steele!
P.S. I laughed so hard reading the bachelor party scene!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Kaden searches for his mystery woman
Kaden and Lanie have a special connection but when she disappears without a trace, Kaden is devastated In an effort to find her, he hires a PI firm to investigate which leads him and Steele to Madrona Island
This story was riveting and kept me glued to the pages as the mystery that is Lanie was unravelled. I also loved how Jami incorporates our favourite PI firm into the story and sets up Steele and Cin for the next book A must read series and author and I’m eager to get my hands on the next instalment in this series. Thank you to Jami for my advanced copy for which I willingly leave my honest review
Playmaker is the third book in the Scoring series. I love a good sports romance, but I also enjoyed the addition of the mystery surrounding our heroine.
Kaden Westbrook is a rookie for the Seattle Sockeyes who wasn’t looking to find a girlfriend, but ended up meeting a woman in a bar who changed his outlook. Now that she has vanished without a trace, he wants to find her and make her realize how good they could be together. However, his teammates seem to think she’s hiding a husband or boyfriend, but Kaden feels like there is something else going on.
Delaney Springfield is the daughter of a power politician and is running for her life, literally. When her ex-fiance is released from prison, Lanie feels like the only option she has is to run and that also means leaving Kaden, a man she has fallen for in a very short period of time. With Kaden, it’s the first time Lanie has felt safe in a long time, but can she risk his safety?
Kaden and Lanie are great characters and their chemistry was easy to see. I liked the involvement of Kaden’s teammates and their significant others in how things ultimately played out. It showcased that everyone needs help from time to time and sometimes those that aren’t right in the middle of the situation can bring new perspective to it and put everyone on the right course.
I enjoyed this one and I’m most definitely looking forward to Steele’s book. I’m very intrigued!

I really wanted to like this book more. I loved the blurb and the idea of a girl on the run with a hockey player being her fork in the road of decision. The characters are intelligent and sometimes talk like they’re still in high school, which threw me off a bit. Sadly another part that led me to my review rating was that it always seemed like Lanie and Kaden were never going to truly be together.
Thankfully it is a HEA and there is quite a bit of romance, but I wouldn’t put this in the Sports Romance category but more Romantic Suspense. I do enjoy this author’s work most of the time, but this book just wasn’t for me, and I’m sad to say that.
I recommend that a reader make their own decisions about this book, though. What I may not like, you may love.
Politics, Summer Fling, Push & Pull, Star Crossed.
really enjoyed reading Kaden and Lainie’s story. Kaden and Lainie had been involved in a relationship for a time until Lainie suddenly disappeared, Kaden was heart broken and went off the rails for a time, however, he was determined to find her. The reasons why she left so suddenly are revealed throughout the book. The interaction between all the characters in this book was great to see, they all care immensely for each other and look out for each other. Lainie is discovered working in a hotel by friends of Kaden, he needs answers and to know why she left. This is a lovely story of how love wins over adversity every time.
I received an ARC from the Author
4.5 Stars for Playmaker (Scoring #3)
This is Delaney and Karen’s story and it’s a tale that captivated me from the first page to the last line.
Delaney is keeping secrets and that means never getting close to anyone from the Seattle Sockeyes but Kaden is certain he can wear her down and be the man she needs, problem is when the truth comes out will Delaney stay or run…..
Kaden is the man we would all love to have on our arm, he is hot, kind and supportive and I fell hard and fast for him, Delaney is a strong, survivor who we can all relate to and once you add in the rest of the Sockeyes and their families you get one entertaining read that has the perfect mix of love, danger, drama and humour. Loved Playmaker and highly recommend it to all romance lovers especially sports romance lovers.
I am really liking this series. This was an intriguing and very enjoyable story. Kaden and Lanie are wonderful characters. It’s the off season so there isn’t really any hockey in this one, just the players and the situation that has them all rallying around Kaden. Which was kind of cool actually to get them all out of their natural habitat lol (the rink) and see how they are there for each other in so many other ways than just as teammates.
I really like Kaden and Lanie. Prior to where the story begins for us, they had been seeing each other for a while but she remained mysterious to him except for how they felt when they were together and the undeniable physical chemistry they have. Then one day she just up and disappeared. He has a very adverse reaction to that and ends up in trouble with the team. As a rookie, that’s the last thing he wanted or needed. But what Kaden really needs is to find Lanie so he can get answers or closure, but hopefully just to get her back; so he does whatever he can to do just that. He enlists help and then his teammates get involved and rally behind them. But can he convince her how much he loves her and that he wants her in his life despite how she wants to keep him out of it for his own protection? Will she follow her heart? Or will she go back to her old life and leave him heartbroken? Great epilogue and nice set up for Steele’s book!
4 star Review Playmaker: A Seattle Sockeyes Novel (The Scoring Series #3) by Jami Davenport
This is the third book in The Scoring Series and is Kaden and Delaney’s story. The writing was strong and the characters had depth. Kaden knows there is more to Delaney that what his Seattle Sockeyes team mates think.
Delaney has a secret and in order to keep herself safe, stays within the shadows. I enjoy romantic suspense and I was invested in the story that Ms.Davenport wove from the first to the last chapter.
When danger rears it’s head she will run in order to keep not only herself, but Kaden as well from harms way. But what happens when the truth comes out? Will Delaney be prepared to risk their safety?
I liked Delaney, she is a strong woman, a survivor. Kaden was swoon worthy and I loved his support and belief in Delaney even when there were times I was frustrated with her.
The secondary characters were entertaining and Playmaker was an entertaining story that captivated me and I cannot wait to read more in this exciting series.
It’s always fun to go back to a world you’ve been in before and catch up with past characters. Sometimes the book captivates you and sometimes it’s just okay. Unfortunately this book was in the latter category. I just had a hard time relating to Kaden and Lanie. It had nothing to do with who they were individually. I just didn’t feel any real connection between them. All I felt was Kaden trying to push Lanie down the path he wanted her to go and Lanie trying to run instead of fight. It wasn’t until we got to the last chapter that I saw any real fight but by that point I wasn’t invested anymore. I still think the author did a great job with this story and kept me intrigued. However it just wasn’t one of my favorites. I’m hoping Steele’s book will be more intriguing. That man sure is a mystery! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
Finally! Jami Davenport is ready to share the secret of Kaden’s Mystery Woman and I couldn’t be happier with the story. Playmaker is book 3 in the Scoring Series set her Seattle Sports world. Kaden and Delaney have a very rough start when, due to extreme circumstances, she feels forced to leave him without even saying goodbye. As she never shared any information about herself with him…he has the almost impossible task of trying to find her again after almost imploding his dreams of the future. This is where we get to catch up a bit with some of our other favorite characters from Ms. Davenports world. As they reunite and figure out a way thru the extreme situation, you will fall in love with the characters as quickly as they fell in love with each other. Another incredible story in the fantastic world that Ms. Davenport has built that I can’t wait to go back to again and again.
Delaney or Lanie as her friends called her has been on the run for a year. I can’t imagine being so young, having no one to trust, and always looking over my shoulder. I was glad she found Kaden, but was heartbroken for Kaden when Lanie left without telling him. I was glad to see that one of his teammates offered to go to an island off the Seattle coast with Kaden to see if they could find her there. Those two had such different personalities that is was fun to hear the two together. All those hockey players give each other a hard time, but do it because they care about each other. Kaden has his work cut out for him trying to find out why Lanie is running and to get her to stop running. There are some exciting scenes and some very touching scenes that made this book so good. I loved it and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
