A MILLER FOUND UNDER HIS WHEEL
It’s 1194 and Sir Faucon de Ramis, the shire’s newly appointed Keeper of the Pleas, must do his duty and make an official declaration of the cause of a miller’s death.
Saddled with a clerk who names Faucon his ‘penance, the shire’s first Crowner must thread the tangled … thread the tangled relationships between
the sheriff, the village of Priors Holston and the priory that once ruled it.
As a simple task takes a turn to the political, what seems obvious isn’t
and what appears safe turns out to be more dangerous than he could imagine.

Oh what fun to discover a new series! I loved this book – mostly because of the characters, although the plot is well thought-out and intriguing! The author knows her history, especially when it comes to law and order! Set in Medieval England, in the time of the Norman rulers, the hero, Sir Faucon, has returned from the Crusades. Jaded, tired, and …
This historical novel contained nicely defined characters and an interesting mystery. It is well written with excellent editing. I’ll be reading the next book in the series.
Season of the Raven Earns 5/5 Miller’s Wheels…Engaging Page-Turner!
The story begins with “Michaelmas,” and a first-person narrative by an unnamed figure recounting their part in the death of a young girl. Who they are is left unknown, but whets one’s interest for more…be patient.
Five years ago Sir Faucon de Ramis left for the Holy Lands …
If you like Cadfael, you’ll love this series.I got this book and the 2nd in the series as a boxed set and immediately fell in love with the writing style and story.
It’s an intelligent, fascinating read with sharply defined characters, scenes of history that come alive in a way that make you believe you’re right there in medieval times.
Highly …
If you like historical settings and mysteries, this is the book for you. Along the lines of Brother Cadfael.
It’s hard to find good books about 12th Century England but this is one of the best! Sir “Crowner” (his official title is Coronarius” but the locals prefer to call him Sir Crowner) has to solve a seemingly accidental death. But of course, it turns out to be a murder. Along the way to finding out who committed the crime, we are exposed to a host of …
I love following the characters from one book to the next.
Love medieval stories. Reminded me of Cadfel series. Good mysteryl
The logic Sir Faucon is pretty dry and meticulously provided. If you want o see the thought processes someone uses to arrive at a conclusion, then this is the book for you. The book has enough twist to keep you interested and the characters are likeable enough. Set in 1194, the book seems true to the times. Sir Faucon’s assistant and scribe, …
Read the four book series and enjoyed them all. Hoping for a fifth book!
Loved the time period and descriptions of the methods of solving cases in that particular lime.
This is not my usual type of book. Once I began the first one, I knew I had to read all four. I did. The plots twist and turn and I could never predict the end.
Well done mystery in an unusual historical setting.
This was an exceptional book in that it take place in a medieval setting. The characters, settings, challenges and conflicts are all true to the period and nicely detailed. The author is quite a historian and a superb writer able to spin a complex mystery within the historical context.
Well described world with lots of historical background for the roles in society of the various characters. Good plot that turns on the rules and mores of society in the time the book is placed. Will read another in this series.
Good story…I really enjoyed this book and do recommend it!
I really enjoyed the first book of this series following a Norman Knight investigating unnatural deaths in his shire. I enjoy historical fiction which remains true to how people of all classes lived, spoke and interacted and this book was excellent in that respect. The mystery was entertaining with some good twists and turns. Will buy the …
Audiobook Review
A twisting murder mystery set in Medieval 12th Century England along with new to me author and narrator had me eager to put in my earbuds and settle in to listen.
Sir Faucon de Ramis has just returned from the Crusades fighting under King Richard the Lionhearted’s banner. He’s a second son and his family can boast only a moderate …
While the story was interesting. This us nit a stand-alone novel. The conflict resolution is incomplete.
I’m glad I didn’t read the Amazon reviews before I read this book because I enjoyed it enough to pay actual money for the next three in the series. Yes, it has overtones here and there of the incomparable Brother Cadfael, but I still found it enjoyable for the presentation of an aspect of medieval life that’s not often seen in general fiction. I …
